I worked for a magazine that was not a comic book, but was published by Top Shelf, which is a comics publisher. It was a very positive experience overall, but not really comparable to working on actual comic books.

SG, your questions are better suited for the Never Ending Forum here at CBR.

Yep. That's where all the aspiring writers and artists should go to get their hopes up propely before being dashed against the cruel rock face of reality.
Oh, and good luck! :D

I pencilled a Dr. Strange story for Marvel back in 1981 that (thank God) never saw print. That's my only professional credit.

You're in luck, though, as an artist. Most companies won't look at unsolicited writing, but nearly all of them will look at unsolicited art. As an artist, you're more diverse and applicable to many projects, but most writers have a certain style that only works for certain characters and books.

I work under the vast Time Warner umbrella so Dan DiDio (and everyone else at DC) are in my email list.

I'll bet you e-mail Dan DiDio all the time telling him not to kill Nightwing and that Infinite Crisis sucks!

I actually show some uncharacteristic restraint regarding those matters.
That's not to say I haven't thought about it.

Sorry, guys. Not a panel of that job survives and, frankly, I'm glad. I shudder at the memory of its stiff, inexpressive figures and sparse, generic backgrounds. Despite five years of art school, I hadn't yet learned how to draw. That came later, after I'd abandoned drawing comics as a career choice. I'll try to find some time this week to upload some of my art on the NEB.

I interned at Malibu Comics immediately after Marvel bought them out in the editorial department in the mid-90s. I had Spider-Man on my paychecks.

Hey Cei-U.. I talked to some people and we found your Artwork. It was also colored by a professional. How's this for a blast from the past?

A lot of xeroxing, a lot of placing certificates of authenticity into bags with signed copies of Exiles #1 that Terry Kavanaugh apparently urinated on before sending them back to us. Although the best part of the job was I had to read all the issues of everything and summarize them for the story bible.
