They are pushing Ms. Marvel pretty hard in the cartoons (Super Hero Squad) and if it's a success.. she'll be the major female hero kids think about when they think Marvel. So it really could be her by default. I grew up with Super Friends and the 1st DC heroin I think of is WW.

Marvel's flagship female is clearly Queen Ororo/Storm of Wakanda.

Most well known is without a doubt Storm.. But, I think Ms. Marvel is getting more and more popular by the day.

Had to go with Storm...Jean would have been a decent choice but she's spent too much time being dead

LOL. Poor Wasp, but who knows now that Disnney is in charge maybe she could become Marvel's answer to Tinkerbell!

In all seriousness I voted Storm.

Right now, I think Black Widow's as strong as any of them.

Okay long thread, so haven't read that much...

Who has the best chance at being Marvel's female Icon

I would say the closest we have had, and the *first* to reach a certain level if she had not already, but might, depending on what constitutes the question and answer would be Storm.

Only first though, if that. I... actually you know? See with Marvel, they won't, or can't have a Wonder Woman in DC analogy. If a Marvel female character does get to the mainstream icon character sense, I see a few of them doing it in rough succession, around the same time. Its probably going to be influenced by the Avengers movie as well. Even then, they'll be attached to each other and say the Avengers brand, rather than stand as some sort of sole iconic character.

They'll say "hey, look, Black Widow... the Avenger or Iron Man 2 chick" or "look, its Storm from X-Men" and so therein lies the difference. Or maybe not, is Wonder Woman automatically thought of as just being a Justice League member? Actually even if then, she was the only female character, she's iconic there, for being the female character, where as Avengers has had a few, and none that really stood out that significantly (despite being awesome)

Also, I think with Storm, Sue Storm, Jean, Elektra, Ms Marvel... Black Widow.. could be pretty good viable contenders.

They've been pushing Carol for a good 5 years and while she should be the company's flagship female, it hasnt quite happened. I think in part bc for that to happen, one needs promotion and exposure outside of the books. A regular cartoon role or movie appearance would help solidfy what they have been trying to achieve with her. I cant beleive she isnt a part of the upcoming Avengers cartoon cast. Hopefully that changes bc she needs it

I have to say this thread got a big smile from me. Even though Storm hasn't had as much exposure as the next female, in terms of solo series (a few minis, no ongoing) she still has the lion's share of fans, multi-media exposure, and popularity. And yeah, her costume has changed a couple of times, but so has Spider-Man's.

Walk up to anyone on the street, ask about the black female with the white hair, then give them a minute to think. Youll hear "Storm".

The poll results speak truth!!

It's funny how Storm's name is written in italics in the poll.

I think Storm is probably the most recognizable by comic fans and non comic fans alike, but it seems like Marvel is/or was trying to push Ms. Marvel as their flagship female.
