I'm interesting in reading up more on Nightwing/Dick Grayson. I figured I'd start with Nightwing Year One but is that the original start of Nightwing or something that was added later one to explain how he went from Robin to Nightwing?
Meaning it came after he was in the Teen Titans as Nightwing or did it actually come first and then he showed up as Nightwing?
Either way how dose it fit in with the rest of the TPBs about him?
Can anyone give me a rundown of the TPBs in order (proper reading order)?
Also in relation to the Nightwing title, when does the Outsiders (Nightwing's version) start? Nightwing #??? = Outsider #1. That sort of thing.
Also which story arcs (TPBs) could I generally avoid as to them not being that good, based on a general feeling by fans?
Thanks.

Try this:

and this (download the pdf on the first page) is an overview of quite a bit of DCU continuity (including Titans, etc.):

Yes, Year One is the current origin of the Nightwing persona, but you might also want to pick up Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. It's the tpb where he first appeared as Nightwing in the Titans series.
Any Nightwing tpb written by Chuck Dixon will be good. You might want to flip through the Devin Grayson ones before buying.

Thanks. Those links really helped. Though having a hard time finding the Nightwing: Rough Justice TPB (which is the second one for the Nightwing series). Yet I can find the others. Anyone know of any place that has it?
Also where does the Nightwing/Huntress mini take place? I figure it's during the 3rd TPB due to the year it was released but storywise does it take place around that same time or after or before? Between which issues would be best I think. Thanks.

Rough Justice is out of print and you will probably never find it and if you do it won't be a reasonable price. Trust me I've been looking for a year now.
Also don't go by years trades were released, it's too confusing. Just get all the Dixon trades you can get and if you still want more then pick up the Nightwing/Huntress. Don't buy any of the other two Devin Grayson trades though.
I gotta say the highlight of Nightwing is defintely Darker Shade of Justice(I think it's called that, im trying to remember off hand). It's the 4th trade. Really, really good. :) Enjoy.

I see thanks. I was looking to find the second TPB of Green Arrow, the Kevin Smith version (volume 3) and that seems to be out of print where I've looked as well.
Is that a common theme? That the 2nd TPBs of recent ongoings are all out of print? Is there something about them that causes this to happen?

A lot of the time early trades (especially the first) of a series will stay in print for a long time (or will return to print frequently) so they can keep it assessable to newer readers.
As for the question about reading order, while this site may not help you much on cross-series read order (like how a Nightwing appearance in Nightwing relates to one in Outsiders), it should come in handy in knowing what issues are in what trades…

As for the Nightwing: Year One question, it collects issues 101-106 of Nightwing which, in my mind, are essentially more of a sequel to the Robin: Year One and Batgirl: Year One minis than a prequel to Nightwing’s “introduction” in Wolfman’s Titans or Dixon’s Nightwing solo series.

Nightwing: The Ties that Bind tpb can be a bit hard to find too.

Oh yeah Ties that Bind is really hard to find, I found it by pure luck. I went looking for Rough Justice at my LCS and instead that had Ties that Bind. Good luck, man. :)
