View Full Version : 198 Approaching?

He's a mutant, as he has traits that neither of the parents had.

Does he have the X-Gene? I am not really familiar with him or the whole Atlantean race. I have always assumed they were of a different subspecies.

I don't believe so, but he is still considered Marvel's First Mutant. So respect.

I'm still not convinced Layla Miller is really a mutant.

I'd prefer if it was Wanda's mutant powers come to life.

Namorita wasn't a mutant - she was a clone of Namora, Namor's cousin.

Gah. Double post.

Gah! Triple post -may as well use it for something.

I'd question Phoenix on there - if you mean Jean Grey, then she's dead and buried, or if you'd prefer, in Grant Morrison's not-ripped-off-from-Angel-at-all's White Hot Room. Either way, I'm pretty sure she's out of reach from Wanda's NMM.

If you mean Phoenix the cosmic entity, I'd say it's not a mutant at all so that doesn't count either.

He has to, Atlanteans can't breathe air, fly and are no where near as strong as Namor is. Namor's parents (just like Mariah pointed out) didn't have any of those traits, thus that means he's a mutant.

As for the list Mastermind II is Regan (right?) Wyngarde and she's now appearing in X-Men though it hasn't been confirmed if she's still powered there, but as I recall she was catalogued as powered in that 198 handbook.

Mimic isn't a mutant to begin with so he shouldn't even be on this list, besides, all of the powers he possesses (asside from his mimic ability) came from X-Men that weren't depowered, so it stands to reason that he would still have those powers.

Namorita was a mutant similar to Namor as I recall and she was killed in Civil War #1.

Madame web has been in Spectacular Spider-Man recently (like a month or two ago) and she's still powered.

Mastermind II isn't Reagan, that is Lady Mastermind. Mastermind II is her half sister and has not been confirmed either way.

This list has lots of errors.

Never trust wikipedia.

14. Bella Donna
Was she really a mutant? I thought Candra gave her her powers.

18. Black Tom [lost 2nd mutation]
I thought he lost all his powers. Techno-shilleladiladidadida to simulate the effects, wasn't it?

19. Blaquesmith
He hasn't been seen since Weapon X, so I think it hasn't been confirmed one way or the other. AFAIK of course.

27. Centennial
I'm pretty sure he died at the end of Lobdell's Alpha Flight. Could be resurrected later, but I kinda doubt it.

48. Emplate
Hasn't been seen for ages either. Confirmed powered?

101. Mastermind II
God, I hope they keep her powered. Much more history than Regan.

110. Mimic
Not a mutant.

154. Shadow King
Is he still a mutant with all those stupid revelations about him lately?

Wikipedia is a good source if you're interested in a character (detailed power descriptions and okay histories) but no way a list like this can be overtly determined as fact.

Quake's not a mutant. she just has damaged genes, in her own words.

This never made any sense to me at all.

Either she got her powers after her birth (mutate), or she was born with them (mutant).

Yes, I know what Bendis said. He said, she's a "mutant without the mutant gene." It makes no sense. He's trying to invent a new category of superbeing, just for her. Pffthh!

Regan has been confirmed to be powered. That's how the X-Men found her in that hospital--through Cerebra

I also think the Collective Man only counts as one, same with the Three in One.

If there are so many glaring problems or issues with the list then maybe you guys should fix the article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimation_%28comics%29), or more appropriately, bring up the errors on the article's discussion page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Decimation_%28comics%29). That is, after all, the point of a wiki.

Wish I was pokemon Ditto in marvel, i'd rock, assuming a ditto could transform into mutants or superbeings and use their powers. :) of course i'd need a telepath side kick to speak for me since all i could say is my name. :)

I honestly don't think that "198" is meant to be the literal number of mutants left in the world, or even the number that are currently at the X-grounds (or were, until some of them started to leave and Domino and Shatterstar took some more of them away with them).

I also don't think that the MU is entirely finished with it's own post-M-day mutation. I think we'll see large numbers of Mutants return eventually, although probably not to the levels of Genosha ridiculousness.

There are also many mutants that haven't been mentioned at all, but it's implied that they still have their powers. Jeb Guthrie*, for example, hasn't ever been mentioned in any of the files or wikipedia or books, but we know that of the Guthries, only Melody lost her powers on M-day, and we've never seen Lizzy Guthrie's powers, if she has any.

Plus, some of the remaining mutants are so random. Have Rhapsody or Alchemy ever been seen following their short stories in X-factor over ten years ago? It'd be silly to think there's not more at work here.

*Jeb was seen with the ability to fire explosive bursts of electricity from his eyes during "She lies with Angels" - he blew up a police car, set somebody on fire, and blew up a house during that arc.

Doesn't the 198 Files one-shot tell you everybody who is still powered? I'm confused because that list doesn't look anything like the 198 they named in the book...

198 was honestly the set in stone number of mutants that were supposed to be on earth after M-Day.

Any changes since then is just Marvel chickening out.

Isn't this list somewhat contradictory to the current X-Men book? After all, it was mentioned in the storyline that mutants were being experimented on, and in most cases, most of them died during these experiments.

And if that's so, I wonder how that affects your list?
