The month before last I read New Avengers after seeing that awsome picture of Magneto on the front. I thought the Collective was about to return Magneto's powers to him and then have him distribute the other mutants powers. Turns out he mentions being possesed by Xorn, can somebody please fill me in?

yep. Xorn is a mutant with energy-based abilities who was mildly nutso and a huge fan of Magneto. he attempted to impersonate Magneto during the Planet X storyline. to this end, he took a power-enhancing drug called Kick. Kick had a negative effect on his already addled brain and Xorn started to think of himself as the real Magneto. Wolverine lopped his head off and Xorn's energy (soul, if you will) escaped. it had been floating around without a body until Wanda made with her infamous "No More Mutants" battlecry. in effect she took a crapload of mutant energies from everyone. Xorn's energy got mixed up in all of that. but, since Xorn's energy is sentient, it was able to establish itself as the dominant personality of all of the lost mutant energies. it became known as the Collective and started making it's way back to Earth to continue the Magneto-impersonation ploy. it ended up finding a suitable host; an energy-absorbing mutant named Michael Pointer. Pointer, possessed by Xorn and possessing the stolen mutant energies, killed a whole bunch of Alpha Flighters before the Avengers showed up. that's when he fled and, sensing Magneto (his idol), crash landed right into Genosha. this time Xorn would do it right and not just imitate Magneto. this time he'd use the real Magneto's body!

This is exactly the way I have understood the whole Xorn story except for the final part: in New Avengers Xorn tells Magneto that he failed because he wasn't the true Magneto, thus he was going to give Mags back his powers, plus the powers of other mutants so that he could continue the fight. No where in there did I get that Xorn was going to possess Mags body, especially since after Xorn gave Mags back his powers they were still two seperate "beings" holding a conversation. I read it as Xorn implying that Magneto himself is the only one that could rally mutant kind behind him.

Thanks guys, because I seriously had no clue what was going on. I liked the ending where the Avengers couldn't find a body, Mageneto really should comeback, seeing his contemparry in X3 made me real eager to see him return fully powered in the comics.

Don't forget Xorn has a brother that joined the X-Men for a very short time.

Exactly---I thought I got it before but I guess not...I really really REALLY get it now. And Xorn II was just another mutant? HEY, he was probably the mutant in the annual, Xorn II, and somehow Xorn I took his place inbetween somewhere.

I'm kinda doubting it. Like Chamber he probably was depowered with whatever physical damage his mutation caused. So M-Day hit and he fell over dead with no head. :)

Hopefully that's the end of Xorn's then. Unless there's a third brother out with with a Asteroid for a brain. ;)
