i thought this might be appropirate considering the feedback on the girl whos playing lois lane in superman returns.
the only person i felt that captured lois lane completly was teri hatcher
because she wasnt a tramp like margo kidders was and she was a serious reporter,
not to mention shes the hottest one out of all of them.:D
but she seemed to capture her better than anyone else so i was curious whos youre favorite ?
Hatcher was my favorite. Kidder had too many moments where she just wasn't all that attractive looking, and I didn't particularly care for how the character was written when she played her. Hatcher was always beautiful, and her Lois seemed slightly more intelligent, minus not being able to figure out that Clark was Superman, and even in that regard, the writers finally decided, Lois would eventually figure it out!! She wouldn't need Clark to tell her.

How can you call Kidder's Lois a tramp compared to Hatcher's?
Hatcher's Lois was the one who was the most sexualized and did the most sleeping around.
Kidder's was just jaded.
And Lois SHOULD BE more jaded than sexy, IMO.
She's an average woman and a cynic.
I'll go with Noel Neill.

Well, that was never the intention of the first filmmaker. If anything, it was Kate Bosworth's character who slept with him on the night of the interview and not Margot Kidder's! :p In watching the first two movies, it was pretty apparent that they did not consummate their love until Superman II, when he had no powers.

Superman Returns spoilers
What's even more confusing is reading the Superman Returns novel. In there it says that nothing else happened that night except the interview. Oh course in the novel, Jason never shows any powers, the kryptonite scene in the boat never happens, and the scene at the end between Jason and Superman never happens. The whole Jason is supposedly Superman's kid is only in the movie.

No. Bryan Singer misreads deliberately or not that Lois Lane slept with Superman on the night of the interview. If you watch the original film it is VERY apparent that they did not have sex. They didn't even kiss.
Yet Singer's movie establishes they did. I tend to go by what Margot Kidder's character did by watching Margot Kidder movies.... and will not have Bryan Singer's subpar movie dictate what did and did not happen in the Donner movie when I can see for myself she did not sleep with him. They flew together, answered questions, flirted, and then he left. That is what Margot Kidder did. You can't call her performance slutty based on exposition from another movie-- in a movie, in fact, where Lois Lane wasn't even played by that actress!!! That is what I meant when I said that Bosworth's character or performance or whatever deserves your ire, not Kidder's. It is her interpretation of the character that slept with him that night, not Kidder's. As a matter of fact, if you watch the Burns Superman documentary, Margot Kidder even disagreed with the decision to have them sleep together in Superman II! She thought it was too risque!
The fact is that nowhere did Kidder as an actress insert a sense of being "easy" in her performances. She wasn't even dating anyone in all three movies she was in! And the one guy she wanted she pined after and loved for a long time before sleeping with him on one night... with every intention of spending the rest of her life with him. That is not being slutty. Kidder's character wasn't slutty. And sloppy retroactive changes to her story will not change her performance.

It wasn't such a big deal in the 1970's, I guess. Plus I think smoking fits her character. I think people fall in love with who they fall in love with. My dad loves my mom and they have been together for 25 years, but he hates that she smokes and tries to get her to quit all the time.
I also think her smoking gives her a strange kind of flawed humanity. She has bad habits and she does things she knows are bad for her. It stresses she is a regular person with all the foibles that come with that.

I always thought Teri Hatcher was annoying. She was probably the prettiest of all of them, but her character was written as somewhat of an idiot. She was more of a sitcom character than an actual three dimensional character that Lois was supposed to be. I think it was because of the premise and the writers tended to write silly episodes over compelling drama.

Erica Durance is my fave but technically she isn't Lois, since she is playing a younger version, the same as saying the 22 year old Bruce Wayne shown in Batman Begins isn't exactly Batman. But either way, Erica shows more sass and confidence that is Lois than the other actresses. I don't say teri Hatcher cos she always has that victim thing like she's tried of work, even in the first episode. She acts like that on desperate housewives aswell. lame.

However, Allison Mack as Chloe captures the character the best and is the one that I would want as my Lois if I were Superman.

I really love both Erica Durance, and Kate Bosworth. They do a great job of representing Lois Lane at two points in her life. Durance is a VERY early, more self-destructive Lois, but with all the neccessary attributes to become the reporter we know and love, while Bostworth is a woman with a career, largely refined and tempered by motherhood.
Dana Delaney was brilliant in the cartoon.
I'm frankly amazed at all the Teri Hatcher-hating that I've seen here, but no less amazed than I am at the "SR"-bashing.
Margot Kidder is a great actress, and there are things I really like about her "Lois," but she's not quite my favourite.
I love Noel Neill. She was my first "Lois," and to me, she's the best.

Margot Kidder nailed the character, but she was a little lacking in the looks department. You couldn't really look at her and say, "Yeah, Supes would sure as hell want a piece of that."
Teri Hatcher was hawt, but she didn't seem to have the drive and sass that Margot Kidder brought.
Erica Durance has both the looks and the personality. Driven, warm, flawed and sexy.

I think you're in the minority there. And the fact that Clark is not attracted to her is my 2nd least favorite part of Smallville. My least favorite part is Lana as anyone that would be attracted to this version is definitely not Clark Kent. She's lied to Clark countless times but anything that he doesn't completely tell the truth about is "not being honest."

Chloe Sullivan fits that description and I like her - because unlike Terri Hatcher and Erika Durance's portrayals, she's not irritatinly smug.
Also I forgot Kate Bosworth when I posted. She's too young (and looks younger than Erika Durance to me) but other than that she didn't bother me so put her third behind Margot Kidder and Chloe

Only Kidder had the genuine grit and intelligence you could associate with the true Lane character. For people who hold her looks against her, she certainly didn't look bad in the original Supes; and unlike more recent incarnations, she wasn't chosen for her looks.

I go for Chloe. She is the most true to character of them all. And i really like that, unlike usual Lois incarnations, it's Clark who she loves.
I suppose you could argue that this is before he dons Clark as an secret identity, so who he is in Smallville IS Superman in an ironic way.
I thought Margot Kidder had sass and attitude in the first movie, and she did figure it out in the second movie, but Clark let her get washed down stream to throw her off course. But she become a real softie in the second one, too Superman dependent.
Teri Hatcher was great, i thought. She was hot, she was sexy in the way she carried herself, and she focused on her reporting more than anything. I think she shares the same spot as the cartoon. The cartoon Lois went even further, as i can't even remember her really ever allowing herself to seem weak or helpless. Plus she was more like the comic Lois with her attitude and teasing of Clark. Erica Durance is a hottie and has that same comic flare, and that's what i really love. Too bad that's all she's got.

What? Erica has all the sass and confidence of Lois, she doesn't buckle under pressure, i have so many examples where i just scream at the tv 'LOIS!'. Even though she isn't meant to fully be Lois yet.
Did anyone read my post? Character Development. Lois in Smallville is like 80% there at being Lois but she's years off. Same as Clark. I said my example that people change in many years, and used the Bruce Wayne in Batman Begins for example, they showed him at 22, he didn't care about anything but revenge, then he grew up more and became batman by the time he was 29. Lois is supposed to be 22 in Smallville and Clark around 20-21.
As for Bosworth? WTF? I have to say this is probably the only message board on the universe that even has an ounce of respect or a mention of Lois and Bosworth in the same title. I seriously thought people would have raped her performance. I don't know who that was, but it wasn't Lois. And it didn't look like Lois either, it(it, not 'she') looked liked Lil from Rugrats.

LOL! THat is soo true.
Ok, I've given this a lot of thought.
My loyalties lie with Teri Hatcher because I just love her. But, if I want to be honest with myself- Erica Durance is the best Lois Lane.
My judgement being based on the modern Lois of the comics. Durance is the only one that really nails her sarcasm, sass, and vunerability properly.
Ok, first off I'm cutting Noel Neil and other golden age Lois' out of this argument. They throw the whole spectrum off. Because those actresses fit that era of comics very well, but they are not even close to the Lois we know today. So, moving on:
Margot Kidder- was pretty good. She had the fast-talking sarcasm thing going for her, definately. The only real problem I have with Kidder is that her Lois seemed very simple to me. She only had two sides, the fast talking balls to the wall reporter and the totally dazed over that hunk Superman. I think there is more to Lois than those two sides and overplaying either can be a bit irritating. So, Kidder is out.
Teri Hatcher- ok I heart her. Her Lois was great- a sarcastic pain in the ass that still managed to be cute and occasionally funny. But, in the last two seasons of the show her sarcasm dwindled. She was less guarded (which makes sense to be less guarded around Clark, sure) but she was just a little too happy-go-lucky in love. Even when Lois is completely smitten with Clark she doesn't act that loopy. Lois in love doesn't mean Lois' personality should do a 180, but it did. So, unfortunately- Hatcher is out.
Kate Bosworth- I honestly can't even believe she'd be an option. First of all she looks a little too fragile for Lois. Secondly, she seemed to be under the impression that talking fast and cutting people off = Lois Lane. She had the least dimensions of all the portrayals. This is another time I find a problem with Lois' softening. Ok, so you're a Mom. Congratulations. Don't act like a wimp because of it. Bosworth is out.
Erica Durance- nailed it. Durance's Lois is so very comic book Lois. She's sarcastic, already tenacious and bull headed enough to jump into solving mysteries without a thought to her own well-being. Meanwhile, she cares about others and often puts herself in danger to help them while maintaining a cynical view of the whole thing. ANd when she does get vunerable/emotional its always a bit surprising and she covers it up with some sarcastic comment or a joke. She may not be full-fledged Lois of the Daily Planet, but by golly- she's damn close. Durance wins it.

1- Dana Delany; she just nailed it, plus that show gave us the "Smallville" nickname she uses
2-Margot Kidder; it's true she's not as hot, but as long as you NEVER picture her as she looks these days (scary), she was cute enough, and did the reporter thing very well
3-Chloe Sullivan; When she mentions to an editor they can publish a story under her cousins name before Lois joined the cast, I half expected her to turn out to be Lois somehow.
4-Terri Hatcher; easily the Lois I consider the hottest live action version, which fit since Lois & Clark was mostly a romantic comedy, but made her Lois too one-sided and not gritty/cynical enough. Not her fault though, just the tone of the show.
5-Erica Durance; She's ok, but the boob job bugs me (especially since I saw her naked in some horror movie before she got them, and she looked fine to me...). She does young Lois well though, and I like the scenes with her father or sister.
6-Kate Bosworth; Lois as mom was just so different in the first place, it's hard to place her. I don't think she'd've been too young if this was a fresh Superman movie, ie: origin story like the first Reeves film, but definitely too young to play her after Superman is away for 5 years after being active who-knows-how-long. Still, I don't have the problems with her several other posters seem to.
I didn't rank Noel Neil or Phyllis Coates, they're just way too before my time, though I like what I've seen fine. Same for whoever voiced her in the Fleischer cartoons, I thought she was done well there. I don't know who played her in the radio show, on broadway, or in the other cartoons (super powers/filmation, the super friends, or the late 80's cartoon), or if she ever appeared on the early 90's superboy, so that's all of my 2 cents.

Where do people get the idea that the Superman Returns Lois slept with him during the interview in the first movie? I figured that Jason was conceived (assuming he's Superman's son), when they slept together in Superman II.
Phyllis Coates's Lois was ahead of her time. She was smart, sassy, and a hard-nosed reporter. Everything you expect from Lois.

I think Dana Delaney did the best job of portraying "my" Lois, the Man of Steel era Lois. But despite that, my favorite will likely always be Kidder. I thought she was very cute, if a little worn-down (not IRL, I'm sure it was done purposely for her character). Her motor-mouthed, clumsy, misspelling performance inspired every Lois to follow, from Hatcher to Durance.

For those who've said Clark is not attracted to Chloe in Smallville:
The last couple of episodes have subtly hinted that he is beginning to open his eyes, as a result of that kiss in the season finale last spring. The relationship was clearly about to take a turn in that direction...just before Jimmy Olsen(!) stepped in and cut Clark out.
Now we have Cloe, who, while certainly attracted to Jimmy, keeps throwing "Y'know-I-like-this-guy-but-only-because-I-can't-have-you-and-if-you'd-just-grow-a pair-and-SAY-SOMETHING-I'll-drop-him-like-a-hot-potato..." looks at Clark.
And Clark isn't giving her anything back but his usual, hangdog, "Aw-shucks-I-guess-I'm-a-day-late-and-a-dollar-short...again..." looks...

LOLZ You are a shipper!
Well, Allison Mack is a great Chloe Sullivan actress, but what does that have to do w/ Lois Lane? They've been shown to be two completely different characters.

Uh...? No idea what that means...

Yeah, but as several others have pointed out, many consider Chloe to be a better "Lois Lane" than any of the actual Lois Lanes. Plus, I think she should be considered an "honorary" Lois, for having used the name as a byline in her first published story in the Planet.
And, of course, there have been wild conspiracy theories that Durance's character will bite it, and Chloe will assume her name as a tribute to her dearly departed cousin. The hair fix is easy--Chloe simply stops coloring her hair and lets it go back to its natural dark brown.
No, I don't think that this is likely. But it's not quite out of the realm of possibility.

Erica Durance is my favorite because the one time I watched Smallville with her on her I could feel the Lois Lane vibe and spunk, and also because when you put her name into google image search half of the first page of pictures are nude scenes shes done.
Lois Lane was supposed to be hot (just look at how Ed Benes draws her). That rules out Kidder.
Lois Lane was supposed to be smart. That rules out Hatcher.
Lois Lane was supposed to be confident and outspoken. That rules out Bosworth's Lois.

That is harsh. I don't think the Lois in Lois and Clark was dumb.
I think they all have their good qualities... Teri Hatcher was a good Lois... Erica hasn't won me yet as Lois Lane... although I do think she's good.
The cartoon version, voiced by Delaney is my fave... Phyllis Coates gets my vote as the best actress version.

Noel Neill was my first Lois and probably my favorite.
I'm also going to include Joan Alexander as a personal favorite Lois Lane. For those who don't know who Joan is, she was the voice of Lois during the radio presentation of Superman. Great actress she was.
