The monster on the right in your Abe pencil sketch (the pointing one) is quite freaky (in a good way), and I would like to see you do something more with him. :)

I agree...I thought that too, even before scrolling down to Sparky's post.
I also like the Vlad's house, especially the color choices.

Hehe, reminds me of stuff from the D&D Monster Manual! :)
Okay here's my two cents: although I dropped out of an Art major so this is only worth, like, half a cent I think it could be improved by imagining a light in front, or just to the side of him, and putting stronger shadows wherever they would naturally fall. Where is the light coming from in the scene? Is some poor doomed explorer just discovering this monster by the light of his failing lantern? Or is there a bright bonfire under the cliff where the creature perches, roasting what remains of our poor doomed explorer?
Also, what might be behind him where it is solid blue now? Perhaps a cave opening in the distance? Some dripping stalactites hangin' down? Right now it's a bit flat - just a shadowy hint of something in the distance behind him would give the picture more dimension.

I agree. You can take a monster figure (c'mon, I know you have some!) and put a strong light on it from a single direction. Also, if you're using a black outline, I think it should be more consistent.

I find it truly disappointing that few of the board members can leave comment here, whether it be good, bad or indifferent. I love the art that others post here, and often comment on such....no love for me ?

I dig this one; Hellboy looks more demonic(yeah I know its Hellboy)! Also with the pose you have him & the giant squid in it got me to thinking. With your drawing style maybe you could try a series of Hellboy cave wall drawings. Your art looks a little like what you would see in a National Geografic (those pictures of old vases), and there could be astory of Hellboy killing a monster wraped around a vase. Just and idea, keep working at it.

This is an awesome idea! I'd love to see a stylized Hellboy fighting a monster in these kinds of colors:
http://www.theoi.com/image/P28.1Ketos.jpg
More Greek vases n' monsters for reference:
Zeus attacking the monster Typhon (http://www.utexas.edu/courses/romanciv/romancivimages2/6zeustyphon.jpg)
The Hydra (http://www.bioxray.dk/~mok/hydra-images/hydra_greek_vase.jpg)
Mycenaean Giant Squid (http://www.nationalmuseums.org.uk/images/k1685.jpg)
Whole bunch of Grecian monsters here (http://www.theoi.com/Bestiary.html)
Ooh, and you could then easily use it as a texture on a 3D model of a vase, to make a cool realistic "museum photo".

Love the ideas Bandit and Sparky...I have one in progress and your image "Sparked" ( yeah, I know, I know) an inspiratrion for another...thanks, guys...you're the best !
PS...How do I post as an image rather than a link, which seems more cumbersome and less likely to get people to look ? Anyone ? Anyone ? Bueller ? Bueller ?

What the hell Sparky?!! That is so cool! I feel a sweet story about to unfold...from the small fishing villiage just outside of Costa Rica that made that vase, and how Hellboy saved them all. Great Work PsychoFyre!

Great work on the Hellvase design, Psychofire,
and what a cool idea, Sparky!
Would you like to be curator of the Virtual Hellboy Museum?
Is there one already?
I believe there are a few other pieces floating around which could go on display...

I like your drawing of Hellboy fighting the Kraken, PsychoFyre. There is lots of energy in the drama you have depicted and the decorative bands across the top and bottom of the scene help to make the ancient vase idea look legit.

I love it! really nice work PF. Definitely my favorite of all the pieces I've seen of yours. It looks finished and self assured (as a piece) great composition - yes, I'm a sucker for diagonals - and the limited colour pallette works perfectly.

I like it. Especially the clothing details.
One small thing I noticed (for realism-not criticism);
The knotted rope around her neck probably wouldn't kill her.
Check out the knot for a Hangman's noose:

Again, was watching the History Channel and they had a real life forensic evaluation of the Lizzie Borden Murder case, and being that she is an ancestor of my wife...here is my Lizzie...
***Please be aware of minor nudity and artistic blood***I do not wish to offend, but one of the theories as to why no blood was found was that Lizzie committed the murders in the nude...

Even reading the name Lizzie Borden puts an image in my head of the crime scene photo of her father after the murder.
I like the way the red pops in the drawing.

yeah. I'm not really an artist, but I think the contrast between the blood and the greys look really good.
So do you and your wife think Lizzie killed her parents?

I would have to say it looks like it, and that their maid probably helped Lizzie hide the evidence. Her alibi is a bit shady...

I think the art is great. Flows very nicely. Good stuff.
The colors for the dialogue boxes (particularly the blue ones) I think are a little bright and distract from the art a little. This could just be on my computer screen though.

DC's Swamp Thing has always been one of my fav characters, but more recent revision attempts have just fallen short of what Swamp Thing really is...here is my visual that changes his appearance just slightly (think the Horned God of Pagan beliefs), while remaining true to the old Wrightson/Totleben look, at some levels...just for fun yesterday.
