A few days ago, I had finally decided after--much procrastination-- to order a copy off of Ebay(a PSX limited edition version at that). However, I'd like to hear the personal opinions of other players of this game. Did you find the game(the gameplay, plot, characters etc) mild, average, impressive etc when you played through it? How would you rate this game in comparison to other RPG titles on a scale of 1-10? I've also heard that it somewhat pales in comparison to the sequel, Lunar: Eternal Blue(so I can't help but question whether or not I made a wise purchase ^^;). So I would appreciate any input you're willing to share.

I can say, without a moment's hesitation or a shodow of a doubt, that Lunar: Silver Star Story, is one of the greatest RPG's on the PSX. A solid 9/10.

The only thing I could possibly fault it was the average English voice-acting and the lack of a Japanese voice-acting option. Other than that, perfection.

I haven't played Eternal Blue, so I can't comment on that one.

The releaseses of the two Lunar games are pretty much some of the finest RPG's you will ever see for any platform. Ever.

The gameplay itself is very much old school, which is cool if you want to play something retro. It's pretty much standard turn style role play.

One very nice thing, you can avoid fights. In the dungeons, the monsters are visible and it is possible to run around them, never having to fight at all.

The story is simply enchanting. The characters are extremely lovable (and hatable, as you'll find when you face the final villain). The Lunar series has produced one of the finest stories in all of role playing history.

I also loved all of the cutscenes and the music of the series as well. Congrats, you've purchased a true gem of a game.

I've never played either of the PSX versions, but the Sega CD version of Lunar: The Silver Star remains my favorite RPG of all time. Silver Star was also very good, but pales in comparison to its sequel in my opinion.

Certainly can rank as one of the top RPG games that i ever played.

Gameplay and gameplay graphics are pretty old school but once you get past that, the anime cutscenes and music are great , the wonderful storyline and the characters will certainly warm their way into your heart.

Eternal Blue have more cutscenes and more voiceovers. Gameplay are the same as SSS , after you played it , you really don't want the game to end as the characters are pretty great and lovable. I don't think i laugh that much at a game. The storyline for Eternal Blue happens a 1000 years after SSS if i'm not wrong.

Such a shame that they never continued this wonderful series for PS2.

There's Lunar Dragon Song for the DS. I think it takes place before Silver Star. Avoid this game, in my opinion. I didn't get far enough to tell if the story was worth it, because the gameplay mechanics just hacked me off to no end. You take damage from *running,* amongst other things I didn't care for.

Yes, the first two Lunar games (Silver Star and Eternal Blue) are very good. Dragon Song? Not so good (and I beat that game).

*This* is what's part of the Deluxe edition?

Now I *know* I'm in for something sweet. Definitely worth the fifty-five bucks I spent.:D

Something else I'd like to add about Eternal Blue (which you should start hunting for right now):

The end boss is one of the hardest end bosses I've ever had to face. Usually, the end boss is moderately easy to almost difficult, but the player really has to mess up badly for the final boss to defeat him. That is not the case with Eternal Blue. This is a knock-down, drag out fight that you can only survive by hording all your silver stars for this exact fight.

Also, the cutscene of the characters first good look at him is sheer gold. I actually started wondering the same thing as the characters: "HOW THE F^&* AM I SUPPOSED TO DEFEAT THAT!?"

Again. Enjoy SSS. You've made a great purchase.

I'm sure I will. Just one more question: How long is it?

I don't know which one you're talking about, but it doesn't matter, both of them are some of the finest RPG's I've ever played. If there was a choice between another Lunar and FF XII I would buy Lunar in a heartbeat.

I was asking about how long Lunar SSS is.

Can't really say. Depends on how you play games.

It took me a quite a while to finish it (more than a month) but i am not really a hardcore gamer , i played like 1-2 hours when i'm free , sometimes didn't play for a few days when i got work to do.

I was asking about how long Lunar SSS is.

Sorry, that's what I get for not paying attention. Took me about 30 to 35 hours max.

I feel the exact same way.

You're in for a treat. These games are marvelous. Wonderful story, characters you truly care about. Character designs by Toshiyuki Kubooka who worked on such anime classics as Giant Robo and Gunbuster, a fantastic soundtrack. Snatch up Eternal Blue too.

And they're right, the battle with Zothar in Eternal Blue is one of the most ridicuously difficult boss fights in any RPG, ever.

I picked up Dragon Song and played 5 minutes of it. Hated it. I love Lunar but avoid this game like you would the plague.
