I have to admit, I'm really enjoying this show. Now before anybody goes and bashes me, let me be frank. I know the show is not the most accurate depiction of martial arts. The matches b/w opponents are toned down (i.e. no punches to the face, no use of "excessive force") and oriented towards scoring points, while defense tactics and grappling are eschewed. Indeed, all of the styles are stand-up, and most are either Karate or TKD, with some acrobatic "XMA" styles mixed in as well. The contestants themselves at first glance seem to be nothing more than just 20 somethings and pretty faces. Reading some of the bios at the MTV2 website, there was definitely an over usage of "sexy" this and "model looks" that and during the show, I think I heard the statement "I want to be the FINAL FU!" one too many times.

However, I see the show as showing that there can be another side to the martial arts. Styles can be graceful while still effective, and the credentials of all of the fighters are nothing to sneeze at, as many have won awards and championships. Indeed, all of the fighters are willing to get dirty and bloody during the challenges and show a great intensity in the matches. Furthermore, I like the fact that there are many different types of fighters i.e. white, black, asian, latino, male, female, gay. To me, that is a great testament to how the martial arts can be for everyone.

So what does everyone else think of the show?

Well besides the fact that the fights are so limited and boring, but also they eliminate so many people at one time you cant get involved. It just doesn't really get me excited or interested.
