I was reading the wiki entry on Nextwave and it sounded intereting. Two issue arcs sound good cause I don't really care for how things are really pushed out over a lot of issues. Though the sales don't look to good. :(
So how is it? What's the general feeling toward this title?
Should one get into it or not bother? Word on if it will be canceled soon due to sales?
Thanks.

I like the series, but I'm probably still going to drop it. Its really a series for the post-modern-soaked-in-irony-crowd. Its funny and fun, but it really feels a bit forced at times. I guess I could compare it to the Venture Bros. It really plays up the funny at times when it should be playing up the action. For something like Nextwave I would recommend either getting the trade or waiting about six months and buying the issues at half price.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PERSON ABOVE! Nextwave is incredible - gorgeous, clean art. Hilarious and witty dialogue. The most absurd villians and enemies. Nextwave is better than anything put out by Marvel right now, Daredevil being the exception. Ellis is really hitting his stride with issues 5 and 6 - check them out for some great, solid fun.
Machine Man runs around in women's underwear! You can't beat that.

You can honestly say that Nextwave is the best book out by Marvel without being sarcastic or ironic? The whole point of the book is that it is so stupid that you have to love it. I dont think that makes it the greatest thing ever, its really just a novelty book.

So only deadly serious grown up superhero books can be considered good?
Nextwave is only a novelty because the rest of the industry is in such bad shape. EVERY book should be as fun as Nextwave.

Nextwave is a satire on the rest of the industry. Unfortunately, it is not a good satire. I didnt say that only "deadly-serious grown up superhero books can be considered good," I said that Nextwave isnt as good a people want to think it is. Yes its fun, but its really just a sarcastic outlet for Ellis's feelings on superheroes and American culture. He puts whatever he wants in there without regaurd for a good story or characterization. It is a novelty because it doesnt try to be good, yet people still like it.

Comparing Nextwave to stuff like New Avengers is stupid as for the most part Ellis' uses Nextwave to satirise the more 'serious' super hero books (eg. His 90's dig when refferring to Cable).
If you like books that are humourous give it a try...even Ellis himself has identified Nextwave as a love/hate book.

I have to agree with the lone nay-sayer above. After this last arc, which was amusing and cute, I don't know that I have to read anymore of them. It's kind of just the same three jokes over and over again, with no real plot progression or anything substantial happening. The art is quite good though and the one-liners are clever, but there really isn't anything beyond that and those two things alone don't really amount to much after a few issues.
I really think silly, over the top, ironic-hero's can be great and can sustain a series (X-Statix being the perfect example), but this book seems to just be treading water.
Now get ready for a slew of one-liner responses written in the annoying NextWave recap/letter page vernacular...

I enjoy seeing what some of the characters are up to and the random ridiculousness of it, but honestly, I think as a comic book it doesn't really work for me. It would be perfect as an Adult Swim animated series, but something about the comic feels like it's trying too hard. It's just a bunch of snarkiness, which is great when I'm in the mood for it, but it's not the great comic hope it seems to be treated as. It's decent but overrated.
Though I wouldn't mind a "Machine Man is $#!+" mini-series spin off.

I enjoy it too. It's funny & could easily be turned into a cartoon, when's the last time a comic made you laugh-out-loud??
Plus it has it's own theme song!!

Nextwave is bloody brillaint. it is completely nonsensical, totally wacky and has attack koalas!
I think it is a nice antidote for the 90s return that is going on in the rest of Marveldom.

Not as fun as she is in Nextwave. Ellis has made her a true bad@ss in his Nextwave. She uses her powers in ways she has never done before.

I fail to see how that is any different than any other book out there. Unless of course you consider something like "Civil War" thought provoking (talk about lacking substance)...
Nextwave is brilliant, funny and all around good. I find it humorous that some people think it lacks character development. Monica's pre-Avengers ethics, Machine Man with the Celestials, anything from the Captain's past, Boom Boom's new celebrity status...
Nextwave is fun. Nextwave is love. Nextwave is the girl you had a crush on in high school. Nextwave is like a kick in the junk that feels good. Nextwave bought you a puppy. Nextwave is Happy Fun Candy covered in chocolate with "special brownie" crumbs sprinkled on top.
Nextwave promises to keep your secrets, like the time Johnny double dared you to kiss Peggy Sue on the cheek and then made fun of you for having cooties. Nextwave won't tell.

it is in continuity but doesn't really deal with much of what's going on now in the marvel universe.
the characters frequently reference 616 plot points (tabby being in x-force, machine man being with the eternals, photon leading the avengers, etc.).

After 2 issues I dropped it.
Just too much "wit" and forced jokes that really went nowhere...
It's just one of those books that according to the prefab buzz , are supposed to make you feel that you are cool just because you like them, but in reality, it's just recycled, tired snarkiness.

Having finally read the most recent issue, it really does read like an Adult Swim cartoon. I mean pages of stuff and one word bubble of some random power phrase. It's like someone let the Venture Brothers have sex with a long box filled with old comics. And I'm not sure I mean that as a negative or positive.

I remember reading the first issue of Nextwave. There was a line in it about the beautiful mountains of North Dakota so I turned and looked out my window and saw endless fields much like I see no matter where I go in this state. Reading that line alone made me laugh for a long time.
The book is good but it’s not the best book out there. I’d recommended to anyone that likes comedy in there comic books. It really is like adult swim made a comic and you’ll either love it or hate it.

I just picked up the hardcover collection of 1-6. Probably the most fun comic I've read since X-Statix.
I really hope that people buy the book so it doesn't get cancelled.

It is technically part of the 616 universe, but it's really not aimed at readers who get hung up over that sort of thing. As long as you're not too obsessive about continuity (not that I've been bothered to notice any major errors so far anyway) you'll be fine.
Alongside 'All-Star Superman', I'd say this is one of the most fun superhero books being published today. It's reminiscent, in some ways, of the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League, in that while it's a very funny book, you still get a lot of action thrown in for good measure.
If anyone out there just wants to sample it, I'm sure you could easily jump aboard with the most recent issue. I'm not sure if it's the best book Marvel has put out recently- I just got the Thing trade, and it really is as great as the cult said it was- but it's pretty damn fantastic.

Nextwave is good. I dont think it is as great as alot of people say it is. I bought all the issues the other day. I'm glad I did. But its not one that I have to read. If my money gets tight, Nextwave will be one to get cut. I do really like Ellis and I'll read just about anything he puts out, but he has done better stuff.

While I did enjoy reading it, I just didn't like it enough keep on my pull list.
As new books have come out, some have to get cut to make room. If I knew someone that bought it, I might steal it to read..:)
