I told a number of people about this tract, which someone showed me at a bar a few months ago... And no one believed me when I said that fundamentalists were citing vegetarianism as a sign of moral impropriety.

$10,000 Dollar Offer:
One of the most amazing claims of The Da Vinci Code is that Jesus married Mary Magdalene, and she then became the most important of the apostles. If this is true, then the New Testament cannot be trusted, and its entire inspiration is in question. Did you know that the New Testament clearly predicts what will happen at the end of this age? It says there will be earthquakes in different parts of the world, increased violence, nation rising against nation, wars, a breakdown of the institution of marriage, famines, increase in vegetarianism, outbreaks of disease, money-hungry preachers deceiving multitudes and slurring the name of Christianity, a general denial of a worldwide flood (despite the scientific evidence), and we are told that skeptics would say that these signs have always been around. Another major prediction made by the Bible is that the Jews would possess Jerusalem. They obtained it in 1967 after being without a homeland for 2,000 years, bringing into culmination all these 'signs' of the times. These fulfilled prophecies are undeniable. They prove, beyond doubt, that both the Old and New Testament are the inspired Word of God.1 Do you know what the message of the Bible is? It tells us that God is good by nature, and because of His goodness He will make sure that justice is eventually done. For example, there were more than 150,000 unsolved murders in the U.S. during the last 20 years — however, those unpunished murderers will receive justice by being sent to God's "prison" — a place called "Hell." But God is so good He will also punish rapists, thieves, liars, adulterers, blasphemers, and fornicators (those who have had sex before marriage). How will you do on Judgment Day? Ask yourself a few questions: Have you ever lied (even once) or stolen (regardless of value)? Have you ever used God’s name in vain, or had sexual thoughts about someone to whom you are not married? Have you ever hated someone? The shocking truth is that if you said yes to those questions, on Judgment Day God will see you as a lying thief . . . a blasphemer . . . an adulterer . . . and even a murderer. Jesus said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart," and Scripture also says that if you hate someone, you are a murderer. This is the Bible’s warning — if God gives you justice on Judgment Day, you will end up in Hell. However, God is rich in mercy, and He made a way for you to be forgiven: "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Jesus suffered and died on the cross, taking the punishment for your sins. Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. If you repent and trust in Jesus, God will forgive you and grant you eternal life. Pray something like: "Dear God, please forgive my sins (name them). I turn from them and trust Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. In His name I pray. Amen." Then read the Bible daily and obey what you read (see John 14:21). If you choose to ignore the Bible's warning, and instead believe the fantasies of The Da Vinci Code, then be aware that you have joined the "Elvis is Alive!" crowd. You've included yourself in the ranks of the wide-eyed and faithful tabloid customers. The choice, however, is yours. It's your eternity. So think it through carefully. There's nothing more important than where you spend eternity. By the way, if you want to cash in on the $10,000 offer, go to www.TenThousandDollarOffer.com Thank you for reading this.

Now, I can see saying that vegetarianism is not essential. I can see saying that it's overly cautious or showing of excessive restraint.

But how the heck does it wind up on a list alongside famine, war and earthquakes?

And as someone who's studied Biblical prophecy, I don't recall vegetarianism or "denial of a worldwide flood" as signs of the end times.

Most people (even atheists) accept that there was a flood from which the account of Noah came. Whether it's worldwide seems irrelevant to a person accepting Christianity.

By the way, take the quiz at the $10,000 offer site.

The Christian pharisees have an out of context Biblical loophole to get out of their offer but it's worth seeing, along with their skewed interpretations of the Ten Commandments.

Some choice excerpts from the ministry website:

150,000 People
Will Die Today
The counter to the side is ticking off the number of people who have died since you opened this webpage. The vast majority of those people are entering Hell. Christ commanded his followers to share the Gospel with those who are perishing... who have you shared with today?

You can't prove evolution. It is something you have to accept by "faith." You have believed what you have heard. You have seen and had faith in evolutionary drawings of reversed osteoporosis. Charles Darwin (the founding father of the faith) said: "I was a young man with unformed ideas. I threw out queries, suggestions, wondering all the time over everything; and to my astonishment the ideas took like wildfire. People made a religion out of them!" They still do. Their language is language of faith. They use words like "believe, assume, surmise, suspect, speculate, perhaps, probably, possibly . . ." Evolution can only be accepted on blind faith . . . because it cannot be proven.

On the other hand, you can prove God's existence. A building is proof that there was a builder. A painting is absolute proof that there was a painter. You don't need to see him to believe he exists. His painting is all the evidence you need. It wouldn't be there if he didn't exist. Creation proves absolutely that there is a Creator. There wouldn't be a creation if there wasn't a Creator. A child can understand that.

*sigh* I got a birthday gift from a relative that used a tract from these guys.

And I think they slander their God and their faith.

Speaking of eyes -- imagine if you were offered $1,000,000 for an eye for the purpose of eye transplants. It could be taken out painlessly, and you be give you a new glass eye which will look as good as your other eye, but it just won't look as good as your other eye. Would you sell an eye for $1,000,000? How about both for $20,000,000? No one in his right mind would.

Go to www.raycomfort.com for $250,000 "to anyone who can offer any scientific evidence that evolution is true."

They are all dead. Do you remember these words from American Pie?: "Did you write the Book of Love; do you have faith in God above? Do you believe in rock and roll; can music save your mortal soul? This could be the day that I die . . ." Sobering but true. This could be the day that you die (every 24 hours 140,000 people die).

Okay... Is it just me or did they butcher McLean's lyrics to make a point? "This will be the day that I die", right?

You don't need to go through a priest, the saints, or even Mary.

Sorry, Catholics. These folks have decided that you're idolators.

Billions of years ago, a big bang produced a large rock. As the rock cooled, sweet brown liquid formed on its surface. As time passed, aluminum formed itself into a can, a lid, and a tab. Millions of years later, red and white paint fell from the sky, and formed itself into the words "Coca Cola 12 fluid ounces."

Of course, my theory is an insult to your intellect, because you know that if the Coca Cola can is made, there must be a maker. If it is designed, there must be a designer. The alternative, that it happened by chance or accident, is to move into an intellectual free zone.

Oh... And my personal favorite?

The banana -- the atheist's nightmare.

Note that the banana:

1. Is shaped for human hand
2. Has non-slip surface
3. Has outward indicators of inward content:
Green-too early,
Yellow-just right,
Black-too late.
4. Has a tab for removal of wrapper
5. Is perforated on wrapper
6. Bio-degradable wrapper
7. Is shaped for human mouth
8. Has a point at top for ease of entry
9. Is pleasing to taste buds
10. Is curved towards the face to make eating process easy

Yeah, those are the Kirk Cameron people. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

On the other hand (I know, I know, watch me kill the funny), there are people like this (http://outofthedump.org/newsite/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/ChacocenteNewsVol4.pdf).

Project Chacocente (http://outofthedump.com/about.html#who) is a missionary project near Managua, Nicaragua. They are focused on moving people from the city dump, where about 125 families live (with 80% of the country living in poverty, there's nowhere else to go) to fertile farmland in nearby Masaya, where after a five-year commitment they will eventually take ownership of the land. They've started a school with a student-to-teacher ratio of 8:1 instead of the state-run minimum of 40-1. Physical health is stressed, as many of them have blood with high lead counts, as well as other problems.

I've met Cheryl Avery, and my church does work with Chacocente and other (http://www.co.miami.oh.us/A55969/otshome.nsf/REL-FUMCBradleysHouse-Letter!OpenPage) projects (http://onthesquare.com/A55969/chrc.nsf/remote/JotsfromJim) in Nicaragua. It isn't easy work like giving out insulting cartoons or making up silly metaphors, but this is what it's supposed to look like.
