Pia and I got into San Diego and checked into the Omni Hotel. No, wait, we didn't. Pia changed our reservation on Monday from Wednesday to Thursday (staying until Monday) and made a couple of health releated requests.

So we're told by the gent at the front desk that the person Pia talked to wrote down the heath requests but not the change in day. So we were a no show on Wendesday and they gave away our rooms. AND wanted to charge us to the night we didn't come even though they filled it instantly. Basically they'd get twice the money for the same room. We talked them out of it.

Oh and speaking of rooms, there are none in town. The hotel manager found us a hotel for one night in Coronado. After that good luck to us. I don't want to make it sound like they paid for this hotel. There's no compensation for their screw up. They made a big mistake and we got to eat it. Nothing they could do they said. Oh, wait they did call us a cab to the other hotel (which we paid for).

When we got the hotel it was nice but again, no idea if we'd have any place to stay for the next couple of days. Basically we could call around in the morning and if we were lucky we wouldn't be homeless in San Diego.

Things ended up working out thanks to Fletcher from DC helping out out. He saved our asses plain and simple.

That sucks. I'm sorry.

I hate incompetence.

Sure, people make honest mistakes. It happens. Honest mistakes should be resolved though.

There have been so many times in my life that I've gotten screwed over from a mistake and the follow up by whatever service or company has been unhelpful in finding a satisfactory solution.

At that point any benefit of the doubt I would have given to it being an honest mistakes get thrown out the window and instead chalked up to incompetence.

Something similar happened to my boyfriend in Atlanta a couple of weeks ago. Glad somebody fixed the situation at least partly.

Ian...

If you don't mind walking a mile or two -- or cabs, La Pensione in Little Italy often has rooms open and isn't on most of the travel sites. I was always thrilled with that part of town. I recomend Mona Lisa's for a nice Italian dinner. I remember loving their eggplant and after-dinner coffee drinks.

Please do me the great pleasure of coming by #2307 (ANTARCTIC PRESS) tomorrow or Sunday so's I can hand you one of our books. Should you wish to pay the hefty One Dollar cover price, you may. But you are not required to do so by any means.
