Last week I was pretty harsh to TNA. I felt the show was pretty much filler and spent more time advertising a PPV than doing a show. So I gave it a bad review as many didn't agree.
This week however could change things. ECW didn't really wow anyone except for Heyman & Dreamer's mic work and canning a bad stripper. So TNA has a shot at being the best 1 hour show this week.
The Good:
The show opens with The Franchise baby. Shane's cutting a promo as fans launch into a Franchise chant. He's REVAMPED the Naturals. He's on baby as he leaves the fans happy as Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens come down.
The returning Frankie Kazarian and Matt Maverick ( Bentley) are reteamed as fans pop like crazy for them. Whats sad is more are interested in Bentley and Kazarian as the 2 seem back into 2 Cool Dudes mode fast.
Kazarian has cut his hair short and shaved wierdly. But he's on as is Bentley who seems to be gaining wieght. This was a great opener and showcases TNA's strength. AWESOME tag teams. They can split up AMW & Team Canada and still go back 8 deep at tag teams.
I have to brag this match up...it flowed so well and how they set up the finisher. TNA needs more of these good matches and Shane gets after both saying that they should have won sooner ! Shane's the F'N MAN.
We see what happened to Sting at Victory Road as he won. Nice comeback victory for him and we see Jay Lethal who now wants Jeff Jarrett. Rhino ladies and gentlemen....the man is a genuis it seems. I think he really did inhale those paint fumes .
Backstage we see Eric Young who has found his gimmick as the overly silly " Don't Fire Eric " gimmick. His whole mannerisms and eyes sell this as he wants more " getting over " tips from Borash. Funny...Eric Young will be a fine solo act to watch.
With so many teams and talents for TNA , Team 3-D ( The Dudleyz ) get to stay at home a few weeks as they tell Spike to go for the X-Title and to stay outta trouble. They've lost thier way and need to re-dedicate themselves to winning again.
Rhino vs Samoa Joe should be awesome to watch if it gets enough TV time next week.
Jeff Jarrett shows up pissed as usual. Sting's a f'n CON ARTIST ! He's getting Lethal to do his dirty work and then he'll jump him after the match. Well he's ready for Sting and has Big Poppa Pump as his bodyguard.
AMW tease a breakup as Gail Kim has to stop them. Harris and Storm settle down as Kim blames Sielda for the problems. Is it wrong to hope she stays gone ?
A.J Styles and Christopher Daniels come out as they cut an interesting promo. Thier gonna work thru all the teams and prove that they as a team are in it for the long haul ! Konnan gets pissed and claims Styles & Daniels were spoonfed everyone.
Both men want LAX in a Tag Match and get jumped . Styles takes that brutal damn finisher and Daniels gets busted open as LAX celebrate with the contract written in Daniels blood....hmmm.
We see Larry Z backstage who I wished was off my TV. He's wearing a very noticeable wig. He claims Cornette is making bad decisions giving Rhino/Samoa Joe in a street fight for free and programming Lethal , a young 20 yearold against Jarrett this early. Skip shows up and laughs at the wig.
Now we get the Main Event program as Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal lock up. Fans chant for both men at times as its a pretty hot matchup. Lethal takes it right to Jarrett , coming at him as a young guy , taking the battle to him. Jarrett takes some hard shots and all but manages to come back.
I can see why Jarrett is NWA World Champion as main heel. He's able to get heat and its generates as Lethal is getting pops for his work. And its pretty damn good work as Lethal is really agile. He moves around so gracefully. His moves and all.
Jarrett goes over with help from Big Poppa Pump as the 2 wanna double-team Jay Lethal as the lights go out. Sting ends up chokin out Jarrett as the show ends.....actually it really ends with Christian wanting to be in Sting's corner at Hard Justice. I smell....heel turn ahead .
The Bad: Too many vignettes and all. Did we really need to see the Larry Zbescko promo with him wearing a bad wig ? The Dudleyz leave but we really didn't need a 4 minute promo detailing time off. You could have left viewers with suspense guys.
We saw 2 pretty good matches here. See this is what I like. Yes I like 8 men or 6 man tags at times. But not for the entire show and besides Rhino's short hiccup squash match , TNA delievered the goods. I just wish they would have added more time to Lethal/Jarrett. That Jay Lethal is pretty damn good for a 20 yearold.
Bobby Roode doesn't really do anything for me as a viewer. Maybe if they were pushing Petey Williams as a heavywieght I'd be intriqued.
OVERALL: ***1/2 outta 5. Better matches from TNA this week and great setup fueds and all. TNA has set up good things ahead and Hard Justice could see some fantastic matches with LAX vs Styles & Daniels as well as Lethal vs Senshi ( Low-Ki ) .
