Not in this case no. The seller has only had two complaints since 2001 and the buyer has his own ebay computer store that sells nothing but computers. Both are legit. What does get to me is that I don't know what that high bid is. For all I know the winner bid is only ten dollars higher than mine but I doubt that as all of the products they sell are just below retail.

I just look up what i am looking for,mark down the ENDING dates,and then when those dates arrive i check to see how much it is selling. If it is in my price range,i buy,usually at the last 2 minutes. THIS saves me the anxiety time of wondering if i am going to win the auction or am i going to be sniped out of it,since i AM the sniper. I took the time,ahead of time,to arrange myself to be there,have the funds to purchase,and to spend the time to buy. I also REFUSE a credit Card purchases,so i make sure that i either make arrangements with friend to buy any Paypal auctions or i make sure i buy items that will accept Money Orders or Western Union. Or Cash.

I know you likely won't read this. But I dislike people feeling forced to leave. Hmmmm... the interpretation I've always preferred is that ninjas and pirates are the two fundamental archetypes of humankind, and that ultimately one must be one or the other.

It's kind of like Harold Bloom's thesis in Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human except that it makes more sense.

That joke was mostly for Gilda, I admit.

The basic argument being that Shakespeare in effect invented what we think of as human personality and it's through connection to the basic archetypes he created and which became models for humanity, chiefly in Falstaff and Hamlet, respectively the pirate and ninja of the modern iteration, that we define ourselves. These archetypes have become so profoundly intertwined in human society that we instinctively connect to them not recognizing that they are deliberate human creations, not a basic condition of human identity.

The key to Bloom's thesis is that Shakespeare invented these archetypes rather than capturing them better than anybody before or since. Bloom is much smarter than I am and knows much more about Shakespeare than I do. He's also wrong.

However it is a nice parallel in that the modern conception of the pirate and ninja aren't reflective of any kind of realism, they are conceptualized forms on which modern ideas are imposed, and therein lies Bloom's major flaw. Shakespeare didn't invent the aspects of personality as Bloom gives him credit for doing, he rather recognized and depicted them in such a way as to give them focus and definition, so powerfully that subsequent iterations in artistic depictions came in line with how he saw them, and such depictions in turn have managed to focus personality and societal development in profound ways.

Think of it this way. 30's gangsters did not initially talk and dress like movie versions. Gagster speak was invented by writers, to make their gangsters sound cool. However, it did come to be a reflection of real life eventually, in that real life gangsters saw and loved these movies, and would emulate the manner of speaking and dress and mannerisms, either because they thought it was cool, or because they thought other gangsters really behaved that way. In any case, it actually became part of the subculture, and permeated throughout, eventually taking on a life of its own so that gangsters did speak and dress and act like movie gangsters to an extent. So it might be said that gangsters were invented by the movies.

This is what Bloom is saying, that western personality and thought were invented by Shakespeare, and society over the centuries came to reflect his inventions. If we return to the gangster movie example, we can see the underlying flaw. Gangsters weren't invented in the movies. They already existed, and their stylized portrayal in the movies in time had an effect on the perception of real life gangsters, both by the public and by the gangsters themselves, but at most we can say that the movies gave focus and influenced perception, both from outside and inside to something that already existed.

Shakespeare did the same, but to a lesser degree, and wasn't the only one. Others did it before him. He's the Isaac Newton of Western thought regarding language and related arts, sure, but somewhat less influential than Bloom claims.

Bloom has some wonderful ideas and insights, but there's some serious fanwankery going on here.

I went back and found it for myself, but thanks. I pretty much agree with everything you wrote regarding Bloom. I love reading Bloom, but some of the time it's like watching Fox News, except I yell at paper rather than glass.

You should check out Geoffrey Klock's HOW TO READ SUPERHERO COMICS AND WHY which, as the title suggests, looks at some superhero comics from the '80s to about 2001 or 2002. Its a nice balance of keen observations and sheer craziness, much like the guy Klock takes his cues from. I tend to dismissively refer to it as HOW TO READ SUPERHERO COMICS I REALLY REALLY LIKE AND WHY, but it's still an engaging read (even if he relies on Bloom way too much, and tries to shoehorn Bloom in where Bloom doesn't quite fit).

Why is it that all women own a billon pair of shoes? I own three pairs of shoes. One thing my momma always told me: We don't get to look into the Book of Alternate Possibilities, and that's probably a good thing. Maybe you wouldn't be who you are, but how do you know that this other you would be happier, more successful, or above all, a better person?

Maybe you would be an artist now instead of a doctor... and maybe that artist would be feeling dissatisfied and useless, saying "I draw pictures; other people are saving lives, and I sit here drawing pictures."

If the grass is greener on the other side, it's because there's a bigger pile of manure over there.

Would you be straight? Nobody knows. Maybe, maybe not. Female sexuality appears to be more influenced by experience than the male of the species, but really, it's a moot point. Would you be happier if you were straight? Probably not. The really important stuff doesn't depend on gender. You have somebody who loves you, and whom you love. If you were straight, you might have a guy instead. He might be a jerk. He might not understand you the way Kris does.

We play the hand we're dealt, and the surest road to misery and despair that I can think of is to get caught up in "woulda shoulda coulda." Don't waste energy or emotion on what might have been. Be here now. It's all any of us can do.

Or, to put it in geek terms, maybe Bruce Wayne wouldn't have become Batman if not for the murder of his parents. He would have been spared a lifetime of trauma. But maybe he would have ended up a useless, self-absorbed, shallow, materialistic jerk who made other people miserable. Maybe. Or maybe not. Who can say?

I'd give anything for you to not have gone through what you did, but it happened and it's part of you now, and it's part of what makes you special. Nobody's ever going to say "thank God you went through that", but I will say thank God you turned that pain into something positive. And maybe that pain won't ever go away, but at least you have friends who can try to help you bear it.

All I can add is that the only thing I think anyone can do is be the best person they can with the circumstances life throws at them. It's strange how we as a people always focus on the things we have no control over. We let that which can never make us happy anger us the most, and thusly are usually pretty misserable. But if you want to be truely content, and this includes times of illness, physical pain, financial debt, and heart ache...

All you'll ever have to do is center yourself on what you can control. There is a remarkably small amount of things we have in life that we can excert control over, if you focus all your worry on those, you will not only feel less of a burden but see a more positive impact from your efforts.

I started this a long time ago, and altho I still get frustrated a lot, I lead a much more contented life. I can't control my health, the fact that I cant work and thus will never be able to offerd to live on my own, or the fact that I've never spent a single day where I wasn't sick or physically sore due to medical conditions I was born with or got by the age of 2 from medical treatment.

I never complain about any of that, it in all truthfulness doesn't bother me. I put my priorities on family, friends, what games I play, what I read, what I'm writing. And over the past 10 years (since I was 16) I really am content with the life I've made. It's by no means great, but its the best I could do with what I had and thats all that really matters.

Bree, you are successful because you chose to make yourself so. Whether the event in question precipitated that, we can never really know. We can know that how you chose to handle that has made you the person you are, that you are successful as a result of hard work and focus and determination, and wherever those things came from, they are a part of who you are now. You are a good, strong person who does good things for other people. You have a bright future in front of you. You didn't let events in your past destroy you, as they might have some.

I do the same thing sometimes. Everyone does. On the good days what I see is that my past led me to where I am, and where I am right now is a good place to be. As time goes by, maybe I'll have more good days.

In the probably temporary good news department, I talked to my brother, and it seems my mom left stepfather #3. She and their kids are at my brother's place for the time being, which means they're safe. Alas, I say temporary, because she's done this twice before, and she always goes back. I did get to speak with my brother for the first time in two years, and my sister for the first time since last Christmas, so that was nice.

I've never figured out why women do that. I mean, go back to abusive males. Must be some flaw in our genetic programming or sumthin. I mean, I must have treated ... uhm, more than several women for domestic abuse, going back to when I was an intern, cuz when a battered woman comes in, it's either myself or the couple other women doctors who haveta be there ... and there aren't that many where I am, relatively speaking, so I deal with a LOT of sexual issues here ... and every supervising doc says the same thing ALL THE TIME: "She'll be back with the perpetrator next week." And they're always right! OR they won't press charges.

I dunno. I think I had a mini nervous breakdown today during lunch. Started crying and shaking and everything, and well, I was thinking .... if it hadn't been for what happened to me when I was 13, would I be where I am now ... and I was like ... SHOULD I be who I am? I mean, maybe I shouldn't be here, should have really been an artist or straight or whatever ... and I'm wondering if I'm living a lie or something. I was totally shaking and all.

So, I asked for a lighter load for the rest of the shift, and the super said "sure", cuz I'm usually trying to take up the slack when I can anyways, but I was very shaken for the rest of the day, and called up Kris and cried to her. So she'll be home soon and all.

AAAnyways, I'm feeling better now, maybe my brain just misfired or something. I'll cheer myself up by writing something bizarre on le blog of WhiteRose. That always makes me smile.

And, I only own six pairs of shoes.

Look at it this way.
1. You are with in love with a person that loves you back.
2. You have an absolutely wonderful family.
3. In addition to making a shit load of money, you have a job where at the end of the day you can say with all honesty that the world, thanks to your own two hands, is a better place. Think of all the people who would be dead, or will be dead if Dr Sabrina is on the case.
4. You mentioned before that your artistic work brings joy and comfort to children that have been horribly burned, which makes you a very important artist in my opinion.

If you focus on what could have been, you'll drive yourself insane as there were an infinite amount of variables that contributed to who you are as a person. It's much more rational to focus on who you are and where you are going and, heaven forbid, ibut f you die today, you can do so without regrets which is more than most people can say.

I've never figured out why women do that. I mean, go back to abusive males. Must be some flaw in our genetic programming or sumthin. I mean, I must have treated ... uhm, more than several women for domestic abuse, going back to when I was an intern, cuz when a battered woman comes in, it's either myself or the couple other women doctors who haveta be there ... and there aren't that many where I am, relatively speaking, so I deal with a LOT of sexual issues here ... and every supervising doc says the same thing ALL THE TIME: "She'll be back with the perpetrator next week." And they're always right! OR they won't press charges.

Oh, and I'm on a first-name basis with ALL the female police officers here for pretty much the same reason, as I'm sure you can guess. I'll bet if I was pulled over by one of them I'd get a pass on a ticket by now. I'm ... well not part of the Blue Shield. I guess I'm part of the Pink Shield!

Well, we're not sure if this one hits her or not. She says no, but she's said that about boyfriends and SF#1 also, and I know #1 hit her and me on a pretty regular basis, and at least two boyfriends who lived with us.

The scarcity of female doctors seems a little strange to me. Female enrollment in med school in the US reached parity with males in 2003, in and now there are slightly more women than men.

You know, that's actually the worst part of being where I am. I mean ... all I can do is help patch up the body, but fixing their attitudes or lives ... nothing I can do about that
