Hope you don't mind me pimping my own book here but it fits into what you're looking for.

School: A Ghost Story (http://www.deftoons.com/school.html) is written, drawn and published by me, it's about a 12-year-old girl who suddenly wakes up as a ghost inside an elementary school. She has no recollection of how she died, why she died or who killed her so she needs to find out what exactly happened to her in the last moments of her life - all while trapped inside the elementary school. It's part murder mystery, and part claustrophobic horror.

I heard that book was really good.

I'm not as into horror as I am into other genres, but the first places I would look would be IDW (http://idwpublishing.com) and Avatar (http://avatarpress.com). I've also heard really good things about Blackgas by Warren Ellis, by the way.
