I picked this up in the week the movie was released and never got round to giving it a read, but last night I eventually did. I am a big Star Wars fan so thats the reason why I bought it and to be honest I wasn't expecting a great deal. In terms of the stroyline its a quite frankly horrible adaptation by Miles Lane. Key parts of the story are either missed out or underdone and basically if you haven't seen the film I think it would be hard to follow.
Anyway, on to the more important thing in this case, The artwork. Doug Wheatley does a cracking job. Obviously he is limited in terms of the characters look as Im guessing he was given instructions to make the characters look like thier on-screen actors, but ignoring that there is some fantastic artwork. There is a glorious drawing in which Anikan is dreaming about Padme dying and that really was a "Wow Moment" (we all have those reading comics Im sure) and throughout the drawing's are great. I have never encountered Wheatly before and despite a shoddy adaptation from Lane he manages to really bring the pages to life and if you think how complex the Anikan charcter should be, Wheately gets all these emotions into single frames with a simple look in the eyes and face of Anikan.
And as for the final lighsabre fest, it looks the same on the pae with the reds and oranges and its basically a reproduction of what we see on screen, but that doesn't stop it looking fantastic on the page.
One thing though...I think the action was hard to follow. The drawings of the big lightsabre fights are hard to work out what is going on and for anyone reading this before they see the movie it's even harder.
Anyway, I know given that it's a film adaptation there might not be a great deal to talk about, especially given that the artwork is so close to the film, but I though I'd bring it up incase anyone wanted to discuss the book or Wheatly himself.
