Since Bats doesn't seem to like her that much and seems to disapprove of her tactics how did she end up in the "Bat Family"?

I think the term 'Batfamily' refers to the set of vigilantes who opperate under Gotham City.

I also think that Batman's problems with Huntress stem from a personality clash more than anything else. She simply gets' on his nerves 'cause she's so strident. However I do believe that he respects her skills and her commitment, so he includes her as part of his team. Even if it's at a distance. I don't think he actually dislikes her.
He's gone to bat (no pun intended) several times.
Batman knows how to separate feelings from getting a job done. And Huntress could easily be part of Batman's circle, she just has to fall in line and do what he says. But she won't because she finds him rude and arrogant.

(Please note that this is the 'old' Huntress (pre-BOP), I'm talking about).

Well, Bats can be a dick at times.

During the Legacy storyline she hadn't have any problems taking orders from him, though.

But in Morrison's JLA she got in his face more.

mia its more than just a "personality clash" huntress has been known to be more violent and vengefull than batman,
not to mention slightly manipulative,
personally i think its hypocritical of bats and also slightly sexist the way he treats her.

Their relationship seems to be like a parent-child, where she is always looking for his acceptance and praise. Batman is just reluctant to give it to her. I think she's proven herself but why she's attached herself to him makes no sense. I guess she never got over her parents getting killed and she's replaced Batman as her father figure. That's about the only way I can explain their relationship.

Mythic:

Great way to sum up the Bats/Huntress relationship!

Has Bruce ever explained *why* he refuses to give her his approval?

Azrael got back into his good graces after Azbats. It took a few years, but it happened. That's how I saw it, in any case.

Cute:

Agreed.

The last few years, minus the JLA appearances, I'd consider Huntress less vengeful than Batman. Exspecially during his Batdick phase.

I thought He gave her his approval twice.
Once after NML and the other recently in a BOP arc about mafias. I remember Dina asking him to be nice. If I`m not mistaken, that´s why Dina kissed him too.

You so took the words out of my mouth, Mia. You usually do when it comes to the awesome Huntress.

Azrael got back into his good graces . . .

Yeah, but I had to give him a foot rub after every night's crime-fighting session for a month! I still don't think it was worth it. :p

personally i think its hypocritical of bats and also slightly sexist the way he treats her.

If sexism were a factor, then he wouldn't have treated Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) so well and with so much respect.

Their relationship seems to be like a parent-child, where she is always looking for his acceptance and praise. .

You know I don't see any 'parent child' relationship between them. Never have. I do or did see a parent child relationship between Batman and Batgirl III. But not Batman and Huntress. She never had a childhood and never even went to school (after her parents death) with other kids until she was 15 years old. She's effectively been a grown adult woman since she was 8 years old. I mean it's nice that seeing Batman inspired her with the idea of getting back at the mob. But that doesn't make him her father. Pat Conroy inspired me to be a writer, does that make him my Dad? I don't think so.

Batman is just reluctant to give it to her. I think she's proven herself but why she's attached herself to him makes no sense. .

Of course it does. It's called hero worship. That and the fact that she has a very transparent crush on him. And Batman has always been sparse with his praise anyway.

I guess she never got over her parents getting killed and she's replaced Batman as her father figure. That's about the only way I can explain their relationship.

I don't get this. Why would Batman be a parent to her? When he never raised her and didn't train her. They aren't even close. And he's always been unessasarily nasty to her? Why would she see him as a father figure, especially when she had her uncle and cousine to fit that role?

Great minds and all that...;)
