View Full Version : If Batman Hadn't Fired Huntress, Would She Have Learned his ID in JLA 50?

The other topic about issue appearances reminded me of a question I've had for a while now.

Batman kicked the Huntress out of the JLA shortly before his contingency plans were used against the team. To regain the JLA's trust following the Tower of Babel storyline, he revealed his true identity to all of them.

If Huntress had still been on the team when this happened, would Batman have included her in this revelation?

At that point, wasn't it just him, Clark, Diana (who all knew), Arthur, Wally, J'onn, and Eel? If Helena would've still been on the team by the point, I'm sure more people would have been, which might have changed Bruce's mind about revealing his identity to all those people. If, for whatever reason, she'd remained on the team as one of the core characters and part of his contingency plans were used against her (which would be all of tripping her on a rooftop :p), then yes, he probably would have.

The thing is, if the point of revealing his identity wasn't merely an apology on Batman's part but his way of accepting that no one team member should know more about anyone on the team than anyone else, then I can't see him excluding anyone from knowing who he is. Tower of Babel was only able to happen because Batman mistrusted the team to a certain degree. As a gesture of showing that he was willing to trust everyone who stood alongside him on the team and that they could trust him, he wouldn't have been able to say "OK I'll tell you, you and you, but not you and you".

So I guess I'm answering my own question and saying he would have had to have told Huntress, but given how much he disapproved of her, I guess I'm really asking how do you think he would have dealt with this matter and how things would have changed because of it?

The thing is, though, that even if Bruce revealed his identity to the entire League, at that time, the League was only six other people- all of whom had recently brushed with Ra's Alghul using Bruce's plans to take them out if necessary.

Assuming he has plans for most meta-powered heroes on his computer, Ra's only used ones for the existing League, and not other members of the hero community. Had the League been bigger at the time, he may have used more of the contingency plans to take out members like Atom or Metamorpho, and would then have probably revealed his identity to them.

Had the League been even bigger and consisted of several unpowered humans, like Green Arrow (assuming he didn't know Bruce was Batman), Huntress, or Blue Beetle, who had not been attacked by Ra's Alghul, either because he thought it unnecessary or because Bruce didn't need contingency plans for these heroes, then I doubt he would've revealed his identity to any more than those he felt were wronged by his paranoia. This is, assuming, that there would be a much, much larger League roster, which is one of the only ways Huntress would have remained a member.

However, were the team only the "Magnificent Seven" and then Huntress, yeah, he'd probably reveal his identity to her, too.

Back then, Batman didn't trust Huntress, so I would say no, he would have left her out somehow.
