Just about everyone who was born in the United States since 1987 watches the Simpsons. So yes.

the Simpsons is great whenever you come at 5 and don't want to watch the news. However, if I really have to watch cartoons I'd rather watch South Park or Toonami.

But yeah, Simpsons really was THE SHOW back in the early 90s.

I love the Simpsons, in my opinion, it keeps getting better and better. Ok, it was mosre popular in the early 90's, thats just because it was something new. Its amazing and improving.

My dad has watched it since then, and is still obsessed with it. His favorite episode is when there is the rapture.:D

I was the biggest Simpsons fan up until the seventh or eighth season, and after that it stopped being the sitcom that I loved, and wound up being a cartoon that I used for background noise until I stopped watching all together.

I have all the dvd's up to season 7 and that's where I'll stop. I do think that the number of viewers this show still attracts is a credit to how loyal most fans are to this show, and how adaptable it is to new generations.

I will be there for the movie, when is it, next summer or something? I can't remember.

Im actually watching it right now. Freaky.

Anyway, you may be interested in knowing that there is a Simpsons movie coming out in 2007. I dont know if it will be any good, but it looks funny enough.

You have it backwards, man. Saying Family Guy is better than The Simpsons is like saying Justin Timberlake is better than Freddie Mercury.

Love the Simpsons, always have. It's still one of those rare shows that get better with repeated viewings.

I consider my real "introduction to the internet" to be about ten years ago when I first read newsgroups, immediately going to the one devoted to my favourite show. It was then I learned that the internet is full of humourless grumps, and that "fan" can have an opposite meaning.

Now, of course, those same episodes the netizens were complaining about ten years ago are considered "classics". :p

Nope, it's going to keep going. The movie is more just a 20th anniversary celebration.

The show's been renewed through Season 19.

(For those not keeping track, Season 18 starts in September.)

I wouldnt mind if it ended with the movie. Really I think its getting to the point where it should just go out with a bang. Its been on for close to 20 years and its been pretty hit and miss these last few years, so why not just let it go?

Money! :D

The Simpsons is one of the most successful tv shows on the planet. That's also why some people consider it "hit and miss" these days, because they are catering to a world market, sometimes they need to add more obvious physical humour that transcends cultures. But they keep a lot of subtle jokes in there too.

Of yes it is...I was seeing a girl a few years younger than me and it was her favorite show...Simpsons has a timelessness to it that few cartoon can capture. South Park, for instance, you know roughly the year that an episode was made because the entire show is satire of what was going on in the real world. Simpsons is really just randomness continuing year after year.

I really like how much more stupider they have made Homer's voice ever since the beginning. In the first season, he sounded like a regular boring buisnessman.

Actually, Dan Castellaneta patterned Homer's original voice after Walter Matthau, but it gave him trouble at times, so he changed it to the current voice.

It can be good. But they have run out of ideas for full episodes. Hence why you have all these shows where each 1/3 of the show is different. It is the same problem with Family Guy.

Simpsons is still probably my favorite show of all time, but unfortunately its probably not even in my top 10 favorite shows on TV right now (and hasnt been for 3-4 years). I just find that they've started to run out of ideas, and the show just simply isnt funny anymore. I watch maybe 1 in 3 new episodes now, but still try to catch the reruns during the week, but they mostly serve as background noise since I know them all so well. Still, the fact that a primetime sitcom could premiere less than a year after I was born and now when I've just gratuated high school is still on the air and will be for at least several more years is truly remarkable, and who knows when it will happen again.

I hate to say it, but for the life of me, I've never been able to figure out just what exactly it is about King of the Hill that's so many people think is funny.

I've smiled at it occassionally, but mostly it comes across as just another sitcom to me.

*Hank walks into Bobbie's room and sees him holding a cheerleader outfit, sighs*

"Bobby, there had better be a naked cheerleader under your bed."

It's one of the last bastions of character-driven humor on television, filled with jokes that aren't driven by crrrraaaazzzzyyyy situations or a constant stream of guest stars.

See what I mean?

I don't get is people saying they should end the show just because they aren't enjoying it.

When here's an easier solution to that problem. Just stop watching.

I still enjoy the show. It does well enough in the ratings that plenty of other people enjoy the show. Why should they cancel it just to appeal to people who aren't even watching it in the first place (or watch it and just like to rant to about it). Doesn't make much sense to me. And it's a tad selfish don't you think? It'd be like me demanding they cancel Seventh Heaven.

The only way they are going stop the show is if a) the creators involved have had enough or b) it is no longer profitable for Fox to keep on the air.

Simpsons were tops until seasons 5 or 6. Where you had a hearty laugh every 20 or so seconds in those first 6 seasons, you got a mild chuckle every 3 or 4 minutes or so from then on.

The Simpsons probably hit it's peak in Season 4 or 5 and had become unwatchable after Season 9. Now, unfortunately, there are more bad seasons than good ones. At it's best, though, it was better than South Park or Family Guy.
