So I met up with my favorite student and her mom, one of my best friends, tonight. We'd hung out before http://static.flickr.com/46/168714968_0d782fc634.jpg and I'd made the "Nerd Family" mix CD for them. Playlist as follows:

"Hey Julie" Fountains of Wayne
"The Final Countdown" Europe
"...Baby One More Time" Fountains Of Wayne
"Love Everybody" The Presidents Of The United States Of
"Beautiful Girl" Spacehog
"My Best Friend" Weezer
"We're Going To Be Friends" The White Stripes
"Only In Dreams" Weezer

It was a mix of song's we'd heard in class, studied, or things I just thought they'd like. I made it primarily for the mom but the kid went ape over it, and listens to it multiple times every day. Now, as much influence I have over kids, it's not often I can really influence the musical tastes of a young Puerto Rican genius (2nd grader reading on a 6th grade level) so I upped the ante tonight.

"It Must Be Summer" Fountains Of Wayne
"Woo Hoo" The 5.6.7.8.'s
"Thunderstruck" AC/DC
"Jamie" Weezer
"Damage!" Blues Explosion
"Hate To Say I Told You So" The Hives
"Perfect Situation" Weezer
"Melt Your Heart" Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins
"Kennel District" Pavement
"My Name Is Jonas" Weezer
"Gigantic" Pixies
"Bug City" The Presidents Of The United States Of America
"I Still Carry You Around" Steve Earle
"Buddy Holly" Weezer
"I Know You Well" Fountains Of Wayne

I feel proud of my baby girl who isn't really mine. She was discussing the merits of the previous album tonight and excited to hear the new stuff. A good combination of stuff I like that maybe you fine horrific, but at least she's not listening to pop radio, right?

She's in second grade and she likes AC/DC?

Son of a bitch. There is hope for the future.

Well, we'll see. She loves the first one unconditionally. Dunno how this'll carry over. I put in AC/DC in hopes that it'll become a love.

If she loves thunderstruck I dont see much problem, practically everything Brian Johnson sings with AC/DC sounds the same. And we love them for that.

Old AC/DC story, I'm getting the numbers wrong.

Reporter: "Why is it all nine of your albums sound the same?"

AC/DC: "HEY! WE'VE GOT TEN ALBUMS!"
