Gents and ladies, I am a major film buff. I especially love musicals. So what I am about to say isn't said lightly:

This is the greatest musical number ever film. M-TV, consider yourself pwned for all eternity.

What exactly does "pwned" mean? Use spoiler tags, send me a private message, but is it some odd contraction or acrnym?

My eyes hurt after watching that. Maybe its just that I strained them a little because of the poor quality of that video, or maybe its God punishing me for sitting throught the whole thing.

Ontir --

"Pwned" is a mistyping of "owned" that became more popular that the correct spelling among instant messaging/chat room users. "Owned" comes from the gaming community are means to beat some one so badly one "owns" them.

And, yeah, ain't Bollywood amazing? While watching the clip it occured to me that the biggest difference between their film industry and our film industry is that our film industry is drenched in irony, while theirs is 100% sincere about even the corniest stuff they do.

Comedy, especially. Letterman, Stewart, O'Brien, et al - all of whom I like and find funny to some extent - almost every statement they make is drenched in irony. Sometimes I think it's a sign of decadence - of the culture, not the individuals - sometimes of a childish need to distance oneself.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about the musical number near the end of Blazing Saddles.

Is that Namaste India? That's the title of the show that's on in LA, that runs videos of the big dance numbers. I get a kick out of the way they show 10 nearly identical numbers, and then they give reviews of them - most really brutal, and then one or two glowing, but from what they've shown, they don't look any different.

Buzz,

Josh S sent me a PM, which talked about "Warcraft" and the mis-spelling of "owned." Thanks for the feedback.

When I was working @ the film locations office, back east, we were working with a Bollywood musical production who had come to the U.S. to shoot the dance scenes for a film, otherwise already shot in India. They went through Letchworth State Park, the Watkins Glen Gorge, and Niagara Falls, at the peak of the summers flowering. When they finished, my boss asked them if they found everything they needed? Their director responded, positively, informing her that everything was so gray and ugly, it was perfect!

i live in philly and we have have a pbs station here that dedicated to "diverse" programming...so every saturday from like 11am to 1 pm, they run a full length bollywood movie...most of those are like from the 70s and 60s and on sunday from like 11am to noon they run the asian variety show (AVS) which is the video clip show...and usually they rave about every single film coming out...:D
