Just bought the Spider-Man/Human Torch mini this weekend. And my God..............WHY CAN'T ALL MARVEL COMICS BE LIKE THIS ONE?!?!?!
Amidst the grim and gritty mainstream stuff (of both Marvel and DC, mind you) it's books like this that make me glad to be a comic fan and to keep being one.
I bought it basically due to Slott's track record, and he's very quickly becoming a writer whose work I'll read just because he's writing it.
If you like comics - Spidey, FF, and whatever - find this, buy this, read this and love this. :)

Seconded.
The Spider-Mobile issue alone is worth the price of the digest.

Nothing beats the last issue of that series for me. Very cool.

It's just such a cute and funny superhero story about true friendship that I can't help myself from smiling just thinking about it.:)

The bit about Red Ghost's ape parallel parking had me in literal stitches.
And the last page was classic.

That comic beats all the core Spider-man titles by miles.

One of the best (or five of the best) Spider-Man stories ever. It's not a "must buy" per se, but I think any fan of the character will find the digest well worth the eight dollars.

Geeze, reading the posts I want to run out and buy it!
What's so different about this series though? Is it in continuity or is it outside the regular 616?

Because Marvel is a business.
If all comics were like this, Marvel wouldn't make a profit at all.

It's GOOD. That alone sets it apart from most of what Marvel publishes now.
Is it in continuity or is it outside the regular 616?
In Continuity (issue five is a pretty big milestone, really)

I really liked the mini, the only problem I had with it was the inconsistent art/coloring.
Personally, Slott would be perfect for Sensational Spider-Man or whatever third title they put out.

Y'know, I never did read the first issue. Was it done in that old-fashioned dotty coloring?

Nope, the art's still good though. Uh three ongoings.
Counts them off on his fingers
The Amazing Spider-man
The Sensational Spider-man
The Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man
Marvel Knights Spider-Man
Marvel Days Spider-Man
Marvel Afternoon Spider-man
Marvel Weekend Spider-man
Okay so those last three aren't real, but there are four ongoing titles.
This series was fantastic. I liked the premise. i was thinking they should do something like this with the ultimate series. something like Ultimate Pals, and show some of Nick Furry's and Clint Barton's back story.

Yes 4, sigh...
You do realise Sensational Spiderman is the renamed Marvel Knights Spiderman?

I had no clue really. when did that happen i thought sensational took over for spectacular. i know marvel knights exsisted through the other.

The last MK issue of "The Other" was the last one before it was changed to Sensational.

They did the art in the style of the era the issue was set in.

MK became Sensational right after "the Other"
I GUESS you could call FN Spider-Man the "replacement" for Spectacular but that'd mean the book had been on hiatus for several months between the two

No. And I remember that only because when I saw the first page of #2 I said "Dude, what's up with the coloring?!"
But regardless, the coloring was fine all throughout - though the "it's like the era it's set in" is a decent and clever little reason. :)

Eh, it's not really that since in that respect I know what they were going for but the color textures and inking is spotty from panel to panel at times. All the characters will have flat coloring but then Spider-Man will have a more "cel shaded" rich texture look.

WOW! It amazes me so many people here dig this mini, yet Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane isn't more talked about.
Yes I loved the Spidey/Human Torch mini. It was very funny and touched on the many Spidey comics I've read in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. The Hostess Fruit Pies was the best, as was the Spider-mobile and Paste Pot Pete.
But I think Spider-Man loves Mary Jane is just as good or better. Not to take anything away from Spidey/Torchy. But if you don't read Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, you don't know what you're missing out on.
SMLMJ is fun and light like this Spidey/Torch mini. So if you liked Spidey/Torch, chances are you'll like SMLMJ.

I love this mini, and I'm not even much of a Spiderman fan.
I only wish there were a standard sized version of the trade paperback; I need one for my bookshelf!

I'm still surprised it didn't get a softcover release.
