I really think they are going with Toby.
Did we really need to see MiG again? other than for him to promote his album?
If Dilana doesn't get the gig she might want to try being a music producer or arranger or something like that. She really hears music in an interesting way.

a
In a funny note Paula Abdul is watching tonights show. Maybe she's scouting for AI perhaps ? Well I find it funny she's in the Lukas section...
Toby's up 1st and does his cover. It was Radioheads " Karma Police " I believe. Nice song I may need to listen to this one online by Radiohead and think about getting it. His 2nd song is his orginal as the only change up he does is have Magni play guitar on it and write EVS on his head.
Lukas is up next and I gotta say...I always wondered who did that song " Fix You " . It was a good cover and then he offers his true change up. He does " Headspin " like he's always performed it...acousticly . And wow.......thats some wild vocals and how he just takes over with no one but his vocals. I agree with Doc Shannera , Lukas could sing the alphabet and make it cool.
Dilana next and she does " Roxanne " with Lukas , Magni , and Toby doing background vocals. Its funny to see those guys do it. Then ya have her orginal and no change up except she can move around. Its an ok song and all , and she can move around unlike last week .
Magni closes with his Deep Purple cover " Hush " and its decent. His cover however is the same ala Toby's. I'm shocked Toby didn't offer to play guitar on it and write Magni on the back of his arms . Tommy Lee isn't a fan of that song and this could be interesting come vote time as he put over Lukas , Toby and Dilani's songs.
OVERALL: Well if Supernova picks Toby they'll odds are get a nice song with little risk taking. Dilana is in the lead from fan voting and all. But this is the pick of the Band and we'll see how they pick.

Wow, Lukas did about his second really good performance of the entire season tonight. That, however, doesn't change the fact that the rest of the time he was mediocre to irritating, mostly 'cause I know that he'll never just sing like he did tonight on his original; he'll try to go "harder," and he's pretty much just bad when he does that.
Dilana was ok. I don't really like her original song too much. So meh.
Magni had the best cover tonight. His original is meh.
Toby was good all around, and he didn't need to change his original around; it's addictingly fun the way it is.
In short, Toby deserves to win this.

Now the question is can Supernova's ego handle picking someone who's a better song writer then they are?
Dilana good at doing covers but she's week on song writing.
With a little work Lukas can be molded into something.
Toby good at performing and song writing. This were Supernova"s ego comes into play.
Magni versatile and soild but, he's going back to Iceland.

The safe pick for them is Toby since he's gonna do rockish type music that will be on the radio a lot. Plus he'll never be the type of guy who overshadows the band. His writing and all will help but the 3 older members will be the bosses and Toby will fit their image and not be a risk pick.
Lukas is the ultimate risk pick. He's already became a standout on the show and his performance with the band was more him than them 3 weeks back. If they pick Lukas their getting someone who doesn't fit the image but can become very good with them and overshadow them as a lead singer. ( wierdly ya want that for a lead singer in a band...Axl Rose , Jim Morrison , Mick Jaggar....ect ect)
Yeah his song writing to Gilby doesn't add up but he does have the talent to command the stage. The selection for Supernova will be the ultimate risk/reward situation. They could legit get a guy who can command the stage and bruise their egos for real. Because lets face it...if Rossi is picked and he does " Its On " again , the fans will pretty much go " Thats Lukas Rossi and Supernova ".
Of course It would shock me if they do make Lukas the pick . I see them picking Toby to play it really safe since I can look at Toby and not see someone who will overshadow those 3 guys.

See we're at completely different ends of the spectrums. You think Toby is the safe pick, and I think think Toby is the right pick. You think Lukas commands the stage and overshadows the band, and I think he's terrified of the audience and just can't really sing that well (or at least hasn't learned how to do so appropriately). The difference between him and Axl is that Axl, though unapologetically arrogant, could sing.
It would shock me too if Lukas was picked, as he's the most unqualified for the position.
EDIT: I do repeat, however, that my feelings would be different if he just gave up that irritating "growl" that he always incorporates into songs it has no place in (i.e. Livin' On A Prayer).

To each his own , I can't handle Dilana's vocals a lot and thinks she over sings. To try and see what a Lukas or someone does. She tries to over do it to impress at times.
Lukas has performed before this. His moves to me isn't fear. He walks around , back and forth but doesn't try to act like a damn moron out there. Ryan Starr humps a panio on stage , Toby runs into the stands , and another one went into humping Gilby on stage ( which he hated) lol.
With Lukas its like " Ok fuck this , I don't have to be moronic and run into the crowd , hump a panio or any of that. I work on stage . "
I think his vocals work fine for me. He can really turn it on and do things out there vocally. I'd love to see Jason Newstedt pushing him in the studio going " show me that range Lukas . "
It would shock me too if Lukas was picked, as he's the most unqualified for the position.
I really don't think anyones un-talented in this. Toby has some skills going for him. I just find a lot of him to be the typical vanillalead singer. That the 3 behind him will always overshadow him.
Dilana , I just never saw what was really so awesome about her. On some songs she rang very well and others its like she would try and over do it.
EDIT: I do repeat, however, that my feelings would be different if he just gave up that irritating "growl" that he always incorporates into songs it has no place in (i.e. Livin' On A Prayer).
Axl had his detractors as well. Even though he became a huge lead singer his vocals got picked on a lot. The main thing is....Lukas has a range ala Axl . He can hit it and be awesome to many and be bad to others.

If Magni is going home to Iceland it will only be to spend some quality time with his family before coming back to work on the album and what not. Hopefully Supernova will not begrudge him that after being away from them for so long.
I see arguments and some "whatever man"s in their future with Lukas. Gilby beleives Lukas does just enough to get by and I don't think just enough is enough. Lukas goes out on the edge when he knows it's safe to go out there. Toby and Dilana have both gone outside of their comfort zones and said screw it I'm doing this way. I can see Supernova getting after Lukas for something and him just walking out of the studio because he's not going to get his way. Dilana is just as bullheaded but she will fight you tooth and nail.
Toby has taken risks. The boy is really shy. The performance where he took shirt off you could see it in his eyes that he wanted to put that shirt back on ASAP after the performance was over. The dude tried to play the bongos no matter how uncool it would have made him.
Dilana... she's the biggest risk out of the four of them. Her song writing is not that great. She's insanely stubborn but she knows how to command the stage and create something original out of songs we've all heard before and not make it boring.
Revising my list... Magni goes first, then Lukas, then Dilana but Toby still wins.

No, you're right: no one's untalented. Let me put it like this: I don't think Lukas is ready for it. I think he needs to learn how to develop his voice more and how to sing both healthily and well.
The main thing is....Lukas has a range ala Axl
I completely, completely disagree. But to each his own.
Lukas has performed before this. His moves to me isn't fear.
See, everyone has performed before this though. Heck, Á Móti Sól was a relatively huge band with two gold albums. Lukas tends to turn his back to the crowd though, to focus more on the band than the audience. Maybe it's not fear exactly, but I do think he's legitimately uncomfortable.
If Magni is going home to Iceland it will only be to spend some quality time with his family before coming back to work on the album and what not. Hopefully Supernova will not begrudge him that after being away from them for so long.
Heh, I wanted Magni to win pretty much from the beginning solely for the fact that he's Icelandic, and it's awesome to someone from there (where I've lived) doing something like this.
Still think Toby will win though (and, with his original, deserves to do so).

Tommy Lee didn't seem impressed by Magni's original song and thats twice they told him that. If he gets sent home I'll see the reason as that.

The only time Dilana went outside her safety zone is when she let the whole thing go to her mind. If she gets selected I predict her tossing things around and becoming a Diva pretty much.
I can see Newstedt getting after Lukas and some things happening in a studio which with rock bands happen. Newstedt watched Hatfield and Urich argue in music sessions. I'm sure he's prepared if they do select a Lukas.
Gilby has seen Axl Rose on Tour. You think those 2 couldn't approach this and know if they select anyone , there will be some issues on what songs and how they happen.
Toby has taken risks. The boy is really shy. The performance where he took shirt off you could see it in his eyes that he wanted to put that shirt back on ASAP after the performance was over. The dude tried to play the bongos no matter how uncool it would have made him.
I'll give him credit for the bongos. But we have to look back at when he performed with Supernova and how bad that song was. It has to be playing in their heads.
Dilana... she's the biggest risk out of the four of them. Her song writing is not that great. She's insanely stubborn but she knows how to command the stage and create something original out of songs we've all heard before and not make it boring.
She has her moments. Of course it went to her mind and her ego got the best of her and the fans responded. She has talent as does all 4. Its just that I could see her being picked and her walking out more than Lukas , pulling a Diva act if it goes wrong in the studio.
Revising my list... Magni goes first, then Lukas, then Dilana but Toby still wins.

I think we already saw the order last night: Toby will win, Lukas will be the runner-up, and Magni will eliminated first. I think the only real competition at this point is between Toby and Lukas. They both have talent, but Toby has more enthusiasm, and he takes more risks. His original song is very catchy, although it strikes me as a one-hit wonder kind of song, not the first of a long line of great songs to come from Toby's pen.
While I didn't like the Lukas original quite as much, it does seem like the work of somebody who will go on to write several more songs that are as least as interesting. But Lukas does that Axl-voice too much, and that has probably be cost him Jason's support. Gilby thinks that Lukas isn't giving his best effort, just doing enough to get by, so that's another strike. Dave Navarro loves nearly everything and everybody, so even if he gets a vote, it doesn't mean anything.

Were forgetting Tommy Lee who has called Lukas a great stage presence out there. Odds are it'll be Toby anyhow since he's safer and can do raido friendly rock. But Lukas has a career ahead of him and I still get a laugh that Paula Abdul was sitting there watching from his section.

Judging by what happened to Storm, tonight's performances will be irrelevant, because the band has already decided on the winner. Remember how sad they looked when Storm was performing Wish You Were Here? Because they knew that her original song was great and her performances those last two nights were great, but they had already decided.

I enjoyed Dilana and Magni's covers last night. Unfortunately, Dilana was stuck singing her original again, which isn't the strongest. The band is generally negative on Magni's original, but at least it had some heavy guitar in it, which I would expect these guys to favor, instantly memorable or not.
Toby was a little bland last night.
Why did they have them repeat their originals anyway? Why didn't they have them all write another one? I suppose seeing how consistent they are for a road show is important too.
Dave Navarro brought up a good point last night. Can these people actually do a long show? We won't know from what we see in this contest, but it is an interesting point.

I thought these were all currently active performers, just with small-time bands, so they should be as capable of a long show as anybody, including the older folks already in Supernova. However, I would guess that Dilana and Toby both sing in a manner that tends to strain the vocal chords more.

skip down....
Thus far its found out that Toby and Magni are in the bottom of the fan votes. Those 2 sing and Magni gets voted off Rockstar Island leaving the final 3 of Toby , Lukas , and Dilana . Tommy Lee and the band say they wanna hear all 3 sing one last time and make the choice.
Now its up to the 3 amigos to make the selection. As I type this I will feel sad to see Lukas go. I have that song he did with the band so I'll be happy to keep that as well as seeing his Rise Electric work. Odds are someone will sign him regardless and I think it was a good career move to get himself discovered in America.
Toby's going HOME !! HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON A ROCKSTAR X-MAS !!!
I'm shocked. I had Lukas eulogy wrote up......
Dilana can win this. Maybe Gilby's pick is happening. He has favored Dilana in this contest. Its between her and Lukas. They want another commercial to decide.
I still think Lukas is gone. I'll say it again energetic young man with command out there. He's done enough to showcase his skills. Dilana will really make Supernova a different type of band and all , I won't agree with it and more than likely ignore it but she has played good thus far. Gilby is in her camp I'm sure wanting her.
Tommy is up.....he's gonna lay the axe down. Tommy Lee says they gotta roll with what the FANS WANT and its LUKAS ROSSI !!! Lukas Rossi has won cementing his world in Rock now. FUUUUCKKKK YESSS.
The band cleary is going to be pushy and new. Lukas is that. Newstedt and Rossi will be a funny combo in interviews....
Dilana gets her record deal and Gilby offers to play and produce it. HELL YES.
Rossi is SUPERNOVA. LUKAS ROSSI is the WINNA . The man , the champ. The fans vote made it happen. Newstedt hugs the guy and here we go.....LUKAS ROSSI closes the show. He closes with Toby's song to seal it baby.
I'm a shocked happy fan...:D

Lucas sounds like the type of guy you want fronting a Hard Rock band. The Lead Singer is supposed to dictate and be the centerpiece of the band. Yeah , he can be a prick like Axl Rose , but as long as he delivers and takes the Key Spot , thats all that matters. Gonna watch the show tonight.
July 19th.....at least I picked a winner. And he's gonna do a good job for them. He's gonna command the stage and work it. The fans picked him and that says a lot when they listen to what the fans want. :)

I told him, "what you need to do, is e-mail them and tell them that you've gone to every Crue show as long as you've been able, and that if they pick this loser, you won't buy the album, and you won't go to the show!" I bought and am reading Tommyland and I dunno.. Lukas just seems to be the poser that Tommy writes about in there. While reading that I figured they wound never choose him. That he was largely this year's MiG.
Bah.. nothing about Lucas makes me want to listen to them. I guess they are going after the disposable income generation that keeps giving Simple Plan and Jessica Simpson money.
Also the only way I can rationalize this for me is that they figure that this whole Supernova band thing is just to make some kind of noise, get some money and then go away after a couple years. I think they got that in Lucas. If they got anyone else, that singer would want to be doing it a lot longer... like Dilana or Toby. They Lucas maybe figuring once it was all over he'd just go away.

Gilby Clarke is already 44 years old, and Jason is 43. Tommy Lee turns 44 next month. So these guys are probably not thinking in terms of a long career in Supernova, more like cashing in one more time before sliding into retirement.

Gilby and Tommy, maybe. But I think Jason still wants to make music. He got booted out of Metallica for wanting to do side projects while Hetfield was getting to know his inner self or some shit. Jason didn't get kicked. Hetfield gave him an ultimatum of Metallica or nothing. He chose to leave. Echo Brain was not going to cut into anything Metallica was doing but them being them at the time.

So did I, and Lukas is a barely a lighter to their torch. If they wanted a lead singer who would have garnered the most attention, they would have picked Dilana, whose gender, antics, and controversy would have provided it. Instead they picked Lukas, who maybe "looks" like today but was the least appropriate choice. He can hardly sing most of the time, to the point where I wouldn't be able to stand one or two songs with him let alone an entire CD, and he's just entirely too young and not-Gilby, Tommy, or Jason.
I do like his attitude though: "Life's a clinic." Very profound.

Shellhead: Gilby Clarke is already 44 years old, and Jason is 43. Tommy Lee turns 44 next month. So these guys are probably not thinking in terms of a long career in Supernova, more like cashing in one more time before sliding into retirement.Tommy Lee is still with Moltey Crue so this his side project. Gilby Clarke stike me as 'will play guitar for food' kind of guy. I heared that Supernova was a replacment becused the band they plan for the show pull out at the last minute. Kind of fitting since both Clarke and Newsted were replacment in their old bands.
I just hope that the Band they have the show next year has a real history.

Not that I don't think going on Rock Star wasn't a publicity move of course, but I don't really think they're thinking of retiring anytime soon.

They should call themselves Radio Supernova ( as a play on Lukas's ex-band) . This way they are importing not only the singer and his musical stylings but some of his ex-name.

Lukas is young and energetic. He's there to get the women and young people into them. Plus we have no clue what an album with Lukas will sound like unlike his live performances. Newstedt and Lukas seem to have that big brother/little brother dynamic where the older bro wants his younger bro to learn better. They should be fun to watch. ;)

I think Toby lost becuse he is a better song writer than Supernova is (I heared that they lost and have to change thier name) or whatever they going to call themselfs. What surpize me was Magni coming out to play acoustic guitar on the last song.Well with commits like "Your the olny one who hasn't grown" she didn't stand a chance. I'm shocked that Ryan got the boot before she did.
When Tommy Lee said that they were going with who the fans were more behind and said Lukas was the 1# vote getter , it shocked me. But it fits. He only went to the bottom once and had 1 bad performance where fans seemed to accept his flaws. They kept him around for that.
Whats scary is last week Lukas's rock version of " Headspin " failed to get fan interest. But when he did it acoustic , it translated very well and fans replied HUGE behind it.
Tommy Lee is still with Moltey Crue so this his side project. Gilby Clarke stike me as 'will play guitar for food' kind of guy.
Tommy Lee has left Motley Crue and was replaced by them 2 to 3 years ago. In fact a woman replaced him as VH1 showed that story. Lee decided he had enough of the band and went back to school , worked on solo projects , wrote a book and is now doing this. Its said him and Vince Neil have an on again/off again friendship.
Gilby has done tours with his small band. He's played in various bands but is more known for landing the Touring gig with Guns n Roses for Izzy Stradlin. He really knows what hard lead singers can do so I'm sure in picking Rossi he's ready .
I heared that Supernova was a replacment becused the band they plan for the show pull out at the last minute. Kind of fitting since both Clarke and Newsted were replacment in their old bands.
Van Halen pulled out. The talk was Van Halen was gonna do Rockstar this year. Odds are since this had made this New band very successful ( the Tour is selling out very well as shows have been added) VH will do this show next summer.
I just hope that the Band they have the show next year has a real history.
I've got a bet its gonna be Van Halen. Sammy has said he's likely done with them and perfers playing with the Waba's and all.

He's touring with them RIGHT NOW!!! He was in my home state with them just a couple of months ago (I had a baby on the way and didn't get a chance to go...but my buddies did, and they said he was there).

You are right...I was talking with a buddy and he played Virginia in Roanoke last year. The show only drew over 2,000 fans and it was sad according to him. It shocked me because he seemingly has been away from the band a lot.
Him and Neil do have that thing though. On an episode of the Surreal Life a few years back , Neil said he went a few years without talking to Tommy Lee. The 2 just grew apart and he saw him in a club and a friend of both made the 2 talk there.

I'm reading Tommyland and while he respects Vince's frontman skills and that, he absolutely deplores him personally. There's one member of the band he refuses to "name" but describes some personal shit from being on the road and it leads up to the first time Tommy said "Screw this bullshit" and left. If you went to Tommy's webiste during Rockstar the man was fricking busy doing stuff basically from Thursday to Sunday and be back in LA for the show.
Personally I just think they are touring to get Mick some money for his medical bills and Vince for his alimony payments.

Well, my two favourites were the first to go. I knew Magni wouldn't get it, but I thought Toby was in with a chance.
Thing is, I don't really like Lukas' voice. None of his performances have really done it for me, save the Headspin acoustic version. Towards the end. Didn't particularly enjoy his songs with the band at the end either, which is a pity, cause I liked the riffs and instrumental tracks that I had heard.
For Dilana, I don't really like the way she handles herself. Which would be fine, as I didn't like the way that JD from Rockstar INXS did either, but his performances were fantastic. Unfortunately, I don't really enjoy Dilana's performances, so on the whole, not a fan.
Toby is awesome, and all of his performances that I saw were great. His original was catchy and his rendition of Burning Down the House was one of my favourite performances overall.
Magni is just Magni. He's great, and his performance of Fire shows it.
Thing is, I would pay to see Toby or Magni, but not Lukas or Dilana. I guess the rest of the band could sway it, but I'll reserve judgement till I hear some songs off the album.

Gilby's wife is a successful fashion designer. He needs money like Keith Richards needs to do another line of coke.

I honestly think the band made the best possible choice.
I love Lukas, but I also consider myself a huge fan of all of the final six.
In fact, I'm listening to Ryan Star right now and I think he's awesome.
But I think Lukas is the right choice for this particular band.
And while they won't be "huge"---because, like, is any rock band is really all that big anymore?---I think they will do very, very well.
And...I'm just so effing stoked for their cd---wish it came out yesterday.
Last season, Marty Casey and Ty Taylor were my favorites and I thought JD wasn't even a pimple on Suzie and Brandon and Jordis' rear bottoms...but, I have to admit, JD did a vey acceptable job on "Switch." I still listen to it every now and then.
But, damn, I'm really EXCITED about Supernova's cd.
I feel like I'm 13 again and, for God's sake, I'm well into my 30s now.

Lucas got drunk out of his gourd that night in Vegas too. I think he was one of the first to pass out.
I should have realized that when they gave Toby the car he wasn't going to win the gig.

Tommy Lee told TV Guide that Lukas was his favorite from Day 1; I don't think anyone else really had a chance.

No intention of ever listening to it. One song was on the radio here and I IMMEDIATELY changed the station.
I'm waiting for Dilana's album.

I'm gonna get it for X-Mas odds are. There is a few songs that are pretty decent. I'm not shocked by Tommy saying that since he told Lukas he had a stage presence on each show.

Nah.. the band "Survivor" (Rocky 3's "Eye of the Tiger") will probably sue.
Gilby's probably gone to help Dilana with her album.

maybe they'll do arock and roll revival tour. bring back the real stuff. get pierced and hotrod tattoos.

Theres a lot that killed Supernova beyond the lawsuit. Unlike an AI , they were going after the rock crowd . They were aiming the band at the old Motley Crue,Guns n Roses (Gilby Clarke was an ok G'n'R member but not a headline name like Stradlin or McKagen ) and Metallica in a way.
Rockstar draws about 1/5th the audiance a AI gets and the fanbase was very limited. The best possible solution was to tape the show weeks ago , swear everyone to sign confidilaity agreements like AI does at the start . Then 2 weeks later while the buzz is still strong roll out the albums and tour.
Because the fates aren't gonna be kind here. Unless you deliver a dynamic 1st single like Chris Daughtry , its hard. One of the songs was so bad I remember in this thread we all joked how bad it was for Toby to sing it. (It was Yourself and 5 other Cliches , I believe )
The doors not closed on the band. If Rossi's smart he uses this as experince to try and climb up.
