The Jenova Thesis

This was something I wrote a short while ago. I recently got it on IGN and would like to hear your commentary on it and if you agree with it.

Interesting. At least you worked within the limitations of the script, instead of the blatant retconning the creators did for FF7 in Last Order and Final Fantasy VII Ultimania Omega.

The bastards are trying to play up a lackluster rival to be better than he is, and cover the fact that they produced two scripts that were sloppy and ridden with plot holes and loose ends.

The saddest part is that the retconning makes Sephiroth look highly incompentent and a shitty fighter. Jumping into the Lifestream without any guarantee that he could survive. For not killing a man who had previously fought and defeated Loz, Yazoo, and Kadaj, as well as fought in the battle against Bahamut Sin, all in the span of a few hours, cured GeoStigma or not. And if he was so vastly superior to Cloud, why weren't there any visible physical cues to indicate such a position. Grunting and the lack of grunting does not count (grunting is too vague to use as a cue), and Sephiroth spent the duration of the fight running away from someone who was tired. That Sephiroth was screwing around with a tired man is bad enough, that he didn't kill a great threat to whatever plan he didn't have as quickly as he could, then dispatched of everybody in the Highwind makes him look pathetic.

I just hate sloppy writing.

Excellent piece, Nikki_4everLover. I remember reading something similar (though shorter, IIRC) somewhere else a long while back: did you have an early draft of this online before releasing the full thing?

Not really. I briefly touched on this discussion on the RPGDreamers Forums but it wasn't really a rough draft. More an angry retort to the stupidity of the UOG.

Must have been someone else then: I don't recall going to that forum at all. I remember a line about Sephiroth being Jenova's greatest victim, or something similar. The piece I remember had more of a feel like it was trying to redeem Sephiroth than yours did. Of course, its been so long that I could be completely misremembering this.

Well really, I do not see why Sephiroth gets so many fans, and has sh**** scripts in a attempt to make him cooler, a sin FF&, he was a Lack Luster Oppenent.


1: THe Name Sephiroth, is Hebrew, for the many ways Man must ascend to be GOd's level. THis makes sense, as ALL the clnoes in blakc robes in FF7, were basicly Sephiroths.

2: The REAL Sephiroth is dead, in my mind, is dead, all other appearances, It is a Jenova bit pretending to be Sephiroth. (As Jenova is said to have shape shiftin gpwoers.)

3: In AC, Sephiroth reveale dhe wanted to travel the Unviers eusing the Earth. Liek his "mother' did.

Fellow, your not Jenova's son, but it's puppet, jenova is jsu tusing you to achieve what it could not due to the Cetra sealing that damn thing.

4: The whole ponit of FF7 wa sthis.

Sephiroth, was a experiment to make a super human warrior, yet was usntable and went crazy in attmepting to rule/destroy life.

CLoud, was a weakling, who in turn found to have more will pwoer than Sephiroth, so in turn surpasse dhim.

For depsite all that Sephiroth is, he is a puppet, a thing, that has no will, or drive of his own. TO be used a sa tool his whole life. Either b Shinra, or by the Jenov a cells that were in his body.

As for the thesis. It's interesting enough, but it's really reaching at some points (grabbing at grammatical errors in a game that has a notoriously bad translation). And Jenova has no conclusive sex? Aside from all the other facts, you even saw her original body in stasis. Jenova's female.

But th eBeauty is Jenova an't Dead, it was defated and sealed. I mena, you fought piece so fJenova as Sephiroth shwoed up.. (WHich elad me to belif the peices coul din turn grow and form into clones/diguises, taking on the form of Sephiroth.)

Ifalna also referred to Jenova in male terms. So as I said, due to her alien nature and ability to shapeshift, saying she is conclusively male or female is rather reaching.
