Me? I'm not going to be here, since the libraries are all closed. But, I'll be occupied with playing video games and enjoying CourtTV's marathon of World's Wildest Police Videos (just got cable a few days ago)
I won't have any fireworks to play, because you all remember me talking about firing a Roman Candle at my face by accident last year. But I'll probably find a way to get a close view of the Freedom Blast here in Indy.
So, whatdya gonna do tomorrow? Picnic? Vacation? Fire bottle rockets at one another?

Im having a big BBQ at my house like very year. My family , friends and neighbors come over someone usually brings fireworks. And once the drinking starts firecrackers usually start getting thrown at one another. Just at peoples feet we dont usually get crazy.

Well, what is it then? You better not celebrate our countries' independence by blowing up a part of it.

I'm performing THE COMPLETE HISTORY OF AMERICA (abridged)
"600 Years of History in 6000 seconds! From Washington to Watergate, yea verily from the Bering Straits to Baghdad, from New World to New World Order, three cultural guerillas from three differents parts of the world will take you on a ninety minute rollercoaster ride through the glorious quagmire that is American History."
Happy Fourth. Whatever it means to you.

I'm gonna sleep, and then have to go into work 5 hours early for the Fourth to catch all the drunks. It's Independence Day, you would think we could give the drunks the night off.

I hate the 4th (or as I call it, National Drunks-Playing-with-Explosives-in-the-Driest-Part-of-the-Year Day) so I imagine I'll spend it praying that the little jackasses next door don't burn my apartment building down.

If everything goes as planned, I'll be performing at a BBQ. I wonder if they're gonna feed me... I like it when I get fed...

i got a buddy (well, ok...he's actually the husband of my wife's friend from high school, which SORTA makes him my buddy by default) who invited me to go to work with him on the 4th. he's a member of a firework squad and he'll be working some carnival with his team and i get to go "backstage" with them and they'll let me shoot off some rounds. i'm pretty stoked about it cuz i've always wanted to know how they go off...are they like mortar rounds or do they have fuses? are they all set up in advance and the guys go hide and press buttons or are they constantly loading up the next shell after the previous one goes off. is it a choreographed or predetermined order or are they just randomly picking up things out of a box and shooting them off?
i'll have all these answers and more, probably on the 5th.

Generally, these boards are fairly inactive on family holidays like the Fourth.
Personally, I'm not particularly excited about the Fourth anymore. There have been more fireworks casualties on the Fourth of July than during the original Revolutionary War. I picture a lot of drunken rednecks throwing illegal fireworks at each other until somebody gets hurt. My apartment complex even banned fireworks this year, because some idiots accidentally set fire to a boat in the parking lot with their bottle rockets. I live walking distance from a pretty good fireworks show, but it's pretty much the same old "Ooh" and "Ah" every year, plus lots of mosquitos.
Happy 4th of July, my fellow Americans. (That's right, Americans. Not "United Statesians" or whatever dumbass, politically correct name some people want to use.)
Let's give a thought to all the men and women who have died for our freedoms in the last 230 years.
And to all the men and women out there who hate the United States and the freedoms we enjoy...
This is for you. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v164/Don3172/uncle_sam.jpg)
I was gonna sit inside, in the air conditioning, and read comics all day (and maybe mow the lawn, if it doesnt' rain).
but Nick's friends are having a pool party, and Nick said it "would be really nice if I came with". .
so it looks like that's the plans.
It's no biggie, I like everyone who is gonna be there. . . but that means from my 4 days off, I :
Sat) went to a big, gay, pool party. . got drunk, came home and slept.
Sun) planned to go to Six Flags w/ my friends, but it rained. Instead we went to the San Marcos outlet mall for 9 hours. . then got drunk, and slept.
Mon) Nick had to work, so I went and got the oil changed, and got my car registration done. then drove up to Nick's work, and met him for lunch, then went home and cleaned for 4 hours. Nick picked me up on the way home from work, ate dinner, and I read Previews, while Nick watched his 6 episoded so Star Trek (next gen) that he had DVRd.
so today, was my lay around doing nothing, relax day.
oh well.
at least it's only a 2 1/2 day work week for me (took a 1/2 day off on Friday to go to Houston w/ Nick to visit our folks).

Really? While that is somewhat cynical, I don't think that its going to be a shoe-in for most cynical post of the year. Isn't this an election year in the States (not PotUS, I know, but Congress and the Senate)? Plus the Liberal leadership race in Canada happens later on. I'm sure we'll get much more cynicism in a few months.

Ok, what about Most Out of the Blue Cynical Post?
It reminded me of that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry was pretending to be a downer and said birthdays signified nothing more than being another year closer to death.

Dare I ask the difference between a big gay pool party and a regular pool party?

I went to lunch at Sam's grandparents' house for burgers, hot dogs, deviled eggs and such, then hung out for a bit and came home for the first time in about a week and a half.
I dun wanna go back to work tomorrow :(
I will say, on a more serious note that I'm very glad to have been born here. In the newspaper they put a few of the potential questions people have to answer in order to become a US Citizen, and dang, without multiple choice I doubt I would have gotten half of them right.
Dare I ask the difference between a big gay pool party and a regular pool party?
a PfoB as Nick put it. . . (a Pool full of Bears).
the difference would be, lots of bears, a couple of them w/ pink terrycloth bathrobes and pumps, only one woman, and a bunch of folks wearing speedo type trunks who really, really shouldn't.
oh, and lots of "c-rings" under swimsuits. . if you know what that means.

I took my mother out. She has severe health problems, and she wanted to get out of her house for the 4th. We went and saw The DaVinci Code she's really been wanting to see it.
It's not dark out yet, so I'm not sure what fireworks I will go see. Going to work tomorrow kind of dampens my enthusiasm.

My family's italian. This meant we chowed down on hamburgers and hot dogs and the other 5000 pounds of food relatives brought. Afterwards, I got to watch the family burst a few blood vessels when Italy was playing Germany in the World Cup.

I went to a barbecue during the day where I didn't know the people who owned the house until I got there. Cool people.
For the night, I stood in the rain on a bridge with other people and watched an amazing fireworks show over the water. By other people, I don't mean I was with them, but that there were a lot of other people on the bridge. Alone or not, it was an awesome show. I think the rain actually made it feel cooler.

I hung out at my folks house, did some reading on a bizarre trial about a conspiracy to kill MLK, had dinner with the family, and then sang with my chorus at a local 4th of July city celebration. Then I went home and recorded me singing the Star-Spangled Banner (http://www.geocities.com/lorencollins/SSB.mp3) in seven languages.
