I would like to broach a subject that I hope is familiar to you all: Bathroom libraries.

I keep a particular group of graphic novels next to the throne, on the royal windowsill, which also is home to hair maintenance tools and various tubes of product. Now, I know...there are those of you who might have my head (snigger, snigger) for such an impasse, or sling vituperate libel in my direction because of a belief (untrue I assure you) that I do not hold the "object" of the comic book in deserving respect.

And you're right, the poor babies do get a little roughed up, what with showers happening nearby and all. (I draw the line when it comes to actual, individual comics. I own a copy of Screw On Head for instance. It sleeps soundly, tucked away somewhere in a plastic bag on a bookshelf.)

But I like looking at comics. And when I'm in the WC, I like to have something to read. Hellboy, in my personal estimation, is a perfect fit. It's not something that you really need to invest a lot into to read and the stories naturally work well in portions. You can just jump in. I find I'll go from one edition to the next picking up where I left off. That being said, if you're in a hurry, which happens, it also works well as something to just glance at on the fly.

I'll admit, when I recently added Strange Places to the collection, I couldn't wait until my next visit. I've since added the The Dead tbp. and, for a larf, the Dungeon tbps. I have to the library, but Hellboy is normally the pick of the litter.

Is this gross? Do you not want to have this conversation? It's okay. I understand. However, if you do... Do you all treat your tpbs. with the same devil-may-care attitude? Or are they enshrined? Do you have a similar bathroom library and if so, (remember, comics people!) what's in it? :D

Oh and happy 4th of july. Or happy belated Canada Day if that's your thing.

I hate to admit it, but I think there's a BPRD trade in my bathroom right now.

I used to have an old Spawn TPB in the bathroom, and I think I have some well-loved Hollow Earth issues in there at the moment, but mostly I've got old issues of Wizard magazine in there. And Mad.

Entertainment Weekly is the perfect bathroom read.

Comics and TPB's in the restroom? Me thinks not. IMHO the only periodicals that belong next to the throne are Entertaintment Weekly, People, US, Readers Digest and other similar such magazines, which usually end up in the trash within a week or two anyway. I guess I never really acquired the habit of reading comics while...taking care of things. Some people do, and to each his/her own, but not me.

Being as I am of the female persuasion, one must take into account that we, as a gender, are setters not pointers, no matter what ablution we are taking care of at the time.

Therefore my reading matter breaks down into two kinds - the funnies from the newspaper for short stays, and National Geographic for the meditating part of our daily needs.

The Hellmister, being a man, is happy to take his Spiderman and Supes comics into the bathroom for perusal. My TPBs and other comic-related stuff stay where they belong - in the vault, only to be fawned over and petted when I feel that particular urge coming upon me. If they are ever taken anywhere near the damp and occasionally somewhat aromatic environs of the Smallest Room in the House, then there would - to coin a small but decidedly apt pun - be Hell to Pay.

National Geographic is ideal for bathroom purposes - one can take care of a pressing bodily function and learn about Aztec ritual burial at the same time. What more can you need?

My bathroom has always been deemed the "Library". Whether I've lived by myself or now with my leading lady, I spend quality time in the WC reading. Recently it was The Conqueror Worm, followed by The Old Man and the Sea segue to Scanners movie novelization. A little peace and quiet and sometimes numb legs is all what it's about.

I don't keep comics in the bathroom but I don't mind bringing them in from time to time. I don't try too hard to keep my comics in great condition and I often read them while having a long soak in a hot bath. Enjoying the read is the bottom line and if I have to replace a favourite I’m willing to do that (but it’s never been necessary).

I totally agree about National Geographic. If you're really interested in an article, like something about tuna migration or vampire bats or south american archeology then you can dig in. Take your time. If not, just look at all them purty pictures!

What about this: lame joke books people put in their bathrooms. I think this, like comics, is a perfect fit as well. There's always a diamond among the stinkers and sometimes even a stinker will do the trick. Like this...

I don't leave anything in my bathroom, but when I am in there for a period of time, I tend to read magazines. I get InStyle and Cooking Light, so that's what I usually read, and an occasional Wizard too.

Sometimes books as well. Sometimes I even bring my GBA in there. But like I said, I can't leave anything in there. Too damp to risk anything getting ruined. :)

Woodworking magazines and Canadian trivia & history books...home grown culture in a can.

I just have magazines on their way to the recycle bin--alumni magazines, community newsletters and such.
Hey! have you guys heard about that new pirate movie? The one that's rated ARRRRRRR? :p
home grown culture in a can. Some bleach would take care of that. :)

My office is right next to my washroom, so I have no problem taking books in with me. I expect "The Black Flame" is going to be accompanying me quite a bit this week.

I only keep magazines like Rolling Stone and Time in the washroom. A tiny washroom with bad ventilation means everything gets wet, eventually.

[QUOTE=ruta] The one that's rated ARRRRRRR? :p

No, I was talking about Pirates of the Carribean 2...

I'm just kidding! YES, The one that's rated ARRRRR! I love that joke.
I also agree with trivia books (whether they be Canadian or otherwise) in the flush-house. Things that make you go 'hmmm' and things that make you go 'grunt' don't have to be exclusive of one another. Education can happen anywhere.

The black flame trade will definitely find it's way to the library. Woodworking magazines are cool but they have to be put away if your parents come to your place.:D

sometimes when i am in the middle of a HB story i take it in with me rather than put it down. i usually end up finishing it before i get up because i don't want to interrupt my reading.
