What kind of gamer do you think you are, what type of games do you mostly play, etc., etc.

All systems, all genres. If it's good, it's got my attention. I don't limit myself beyond that

I'm also an "everthing" type of person, but I was originally a fighting game fan, so that's what I picked.

I like to consider myself a "hardcore gamer". I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to games, some people might even call me elitist.

I like my games to have an element of depth to them, and I lament the recent trend of "dumbing down" franchises in an effort to reach a wider market (I used to love Ghost Recon when it was a PC only tactical-shooter, however they completely changed the style of gameplay for Ghost Recon 2.)

My favorite games tend to be first person titles, although they are not typical of the FPS genre (Deus Ex, Thief, etc). I'm also very fond of RPGs and the occasional strategy game. The only genre that you will not find me playing is the sport sim. Let me clarify: I hate sport sims, because I hate sports.

My platform of choice is the PC. I tend to look down on my other consoles as being a dirty kind of guilty -but satisfying- pleasure.

Console and handheld games. Here lately its been a lot of handheld on the DS.

Action/Adventure usually. Some racing and fighting but usually not for long.
If its racing I like the kind that lets you drive anywhere you want and not limited to specific path. Games like Midtown Madness and such.

That's about it.

Yeah, I hate sport sims too, and not a fan of sports, but arcadey type sports games I love. Like, back in the day, I used to love the Blitz series when it was an arcade game. I've yet to try out the new one, though.

I am a fighting game fanboy of epic proportions.

From Tekken to Evil Zone, Primal Rage to DOA, I'm there.

In fact, the only fighting game series I don't like is Virtua Fighter.

Same here.

I play Madden more than anything, but I play hockey, baseball and basketball too. The only non-sports titles I really mess with are GTA franchise, Zelda franchise, the first Jak & Daxter and Tetris.

First person shooters
RTS

But 90% of the time it's FPS games online with at least 30 - 40 other players. I can't stand to play against bots and I'm not a fan of small matches. I love FPS games because they're non-stop action. It's funny because when I was younger I used to HATE shooter games. Back then I only played strategy and simulations...

PS: I hate MMOs. :p

I'm the kind of gamer who plays a ton of games that don't even fit in the narrow parameters of this poll. I have a few PC games that I enjoy, but I also play card games (collectible and non-collectible), tabletop rpgs, live-action rpgs, and lots of board games. I used to play war games, but they tend to be slow-paced and extremely time-consuming.

Evil Zone over VF? PRIMAL RAGE and DOA over VF? WTF!?!

I am deeply disturbed by this post. At least you didn't say Mortal Kombat over VF, or I might not take you seriously, ever.......

Then again, I shouldn't be talking. I'm one of those people that like Ergheiz more than Tekken 1 - 4.

Console Games- RPG's, fighting games, and action games mostly

PC- MMO's

Pencil/Paper RPG's- Classic fantasy stuff and super-hero mostly

Miniatures- Star Wars currently. I still have a ton of HeroClix but I rarely play. I used to play Warhammer 40K and Warhammer Fantasy, but I got rid of all that

CCG's- The Vs system mainly, but I still have a lot of Magic too.

Everything except - Simulation games, sports games, music based games. I liked sports games when I was a kid, they are to damn complicated to me now especially since I dont watch sports they are to realistic for me, I dont know what in the hell is going on in them.

Ive been playing for 25 years or so and have all my systems in boxes since my first one the vectrex up to my xbox360 and everything in between. So Ive been around for the start of all the genres and play them all. Been playing on my pc since I had a commodore64 but as of lately I dont play many pc games not compared to what I used to. The quality of them are worse anymore than console games, not alot worth my dollars.

I knew someone was gonna say something....

To answer your's and Xero Kaiser's question, I found VF's learning curve to be far too steep to be any fun. Not that I prefer button-mashers like Rival Schools, but I don't want to spend the first few weeks of gameplay mucking around the first three matches. A lot of people didn't like MK Deception's Konquest Mode for the same reason (although I loved it myself).

A Sidenote: I also loved Ergheiz, and I do prefer MK over VF. AND, Evil Zone was original and innovative.

Yeah, that seems to be a common complaint, but really, a lot of VF fans make the series out to be a lot more complicated than it actually is. Even though I like VF I still find it to be a little slow and stiff, though. Same deal with MK.

Evil Zone...that game was actually pretty fun, even though I only messed with Danzyvar (I think that was it...the Sentai-style character). But god almighty that game had some of the worst voice acting ever

You cant go wrong with a good Action/adventure console game.

Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance being a prime example.

I'm totally ghey for FPS.

Also a big Fighting games freak. Games like HULK: Ultimate Destruction and Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters are not so guilty pleasures for me.

I spend most of my time playing games online on my computer. I have four main games: Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield 2, Guild Wars, and World of Warcraft.
So i'm mostly a multiplayer gamer because i'm ussually playing with my clan/guild/friends.

I chose single player games. Honestly, I've played quite a few multiplayer games, but I always get more enjoyment on my own. I rarely get more bugged by an AI then some dickhead online who is actively trying to piss me off.

I play sports games the most. Followed by action/adventure. I loved X-men Legends, and I guess that falls into the RPG category.

90% of my gaming nowadays involves either guns or sports. I mostly play GTA or Madden, but I am a hardcore gamer. Some people think you have to play weird PC titles or crazy japanese games to be a "real" gamer, but those people are asinine.

Agreed.

All you need to be hardcore gamer is to be good at the games you play, reproach (read: beat the living s*** out of) anyone who says video games are dumb and for little kids and, basically, just show love to your fellow gamer.
