Superman Returns shows that James Marsden could have done a lot more as Cyclops if only the script had called for it.
But who else would have made a great Cyclops? And what older actors could have played the character well if an X-Men movie had been made during their prime?

Guy Pearce?

You know that's actually a great cast. I love that guy's work, it's really very good, from the Time Machine to the Count of Monte Cristo.
I actually like Edward Norton. I think it would have fit the Slim part but he's a little too short. I mean you put a visor on anyone and let the hair grown out and it wouldn't be a bad fit but Norton has great range too I think.

I thought of Pearce because he's really lean.

He's great in Memento as he plays a very conflicted character.

I think Jim Caviezel was in the running at one point, wasn't he?
He doesn't really seem to have a lot of charisma to me though.

Funny you mention him too, both actors where in Count of Monte Cristo. Caviezel wasn't bad in that movie but you right I don't think he has that cool factor that Cyclops should have. I mean Jesus yes but Cyclops no.

I think Ian Somerhalder could do a good young Cyclops.
But then again I think Ian Somerhalder would be fantastic as everyone so what do I know?

I think Nathan Filion (Firefly/Serenity) would have been great. He has proven he can play the leader role in the past, and is able to be funny as well.

Nope, i'd still go with James Marsden.
He was just the right balance of leadership/boy scout/strong willed/dick.
Plus he had the hair. Noone can deny this.

Sean Maher, the doctor from "Firefly" would have been a great choice. He's already showed that he can play anal retentives.

Christian Bale...he could play emotionally distant dick Cyke really well...though im not talking 'Batman Begins' muscley Bale...but when he was leaner...

Ugh, I remember that too. Fun movie, but Bale got BULKED up like crazy, so he was a little stumpy looking with all that muscle (before he got into the suit). It was a little annoying because the guy looks cool when he's tall and slim.
I don't know about Cyclops though.
I like the Guy Peirce suggestion a lot, too. Nice call.

Nathan Fillion (Firefly/Serenity) or Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) would both make a good Cyclops, I guess.

Guy Pearce and the guy from Firefly were great picks.
Ackles looks more like hed play Havok tho, which is never a bad thing for more Havok in anything.

I like the suggestion of Guy Pearce. Or for a vastly different take than that, take a time machine back a couple of decades and get a young Bruce Boxleitner.

GOOOOOOOOOOD He's HawTT!!!
But I can see him doing Northstar.:D
I love Marsden as Scott... but maybe Sean Maher like Mirrorball said or Ackles... Fillion is another major Hotty but I can't see him doing Cyclops... maybe David Boreanaz... he's got the broody thing going on.
If they ever Got Micheal Vartan to play him then Melissa George should MOST definately play Emma ;)

What about an X-Men Year One movie? Aside from an interesting movie overall, that would allow for some younger actor to tackle the role.
How about the kid who played Epharm on Everwood? He's an unlikely leader, plus fits the "slim" requirement.

hmmm... I'm gonna have to agree with you there. Gregory Smith I believe is his name. He looks like he could be a young Scott.
He's also got the attitude for it in the show aswell.
Although I just thought of another one. Kevin Zegers. One of my favorite actors who doesn't get enough credit for being totally cute. He kinda looks like a young James Marsden actually. Yumm:p
If X-Men were made 15 years ago, I would've cast Michael Biehn. Classic boyscout/soldier/niceguy all around.

Michael Vartan WOULD be a good Cyclops-- but Billie Piper would be a better Emma.
I think Billie Piper's a bit too young to play Emma. I always pictured Emma as slightly younger than Nicolette Sheridan.

According to New X-Men Emma is 27. Billie is a BIT young.. but not much...

Doctor Who has Billie playing a 19 year-old, though. I'd say that's a tad young :)

I just googled Billie Piper *wink wink, nudge nudge*... no? ok...
I think she's looks awesome for the part. She actually looks like Emma in some pictures I remember.
I'm still in favor of Melissa though. She's just got the presence to pull it off.:)

Although I like the idea of Guy Pearce, he may be too old. Simon West and Brendan Fraser have the kind-of all-american look that Cyclops needs. (I know, technically Simon West is blonde and Australian, I still think he would fit the part well)
but she's 28 in real life!
Actually, she's more like 23.
Nah, I don't think she has the maturity, fierceness, and coldness to play Emma.
