To me Daredevil is the most consistantly well written of the Marvel books. With that said what do you think is the worst run of issues for ol' horn head? Who stunk the joint up the most?

I love the classic Daredevil most of all, from Colan's arrival on the title to the end of Wolfman's run. That said, I think Daredevil has remained remarkably great throughout the years until the 90s.

However, unlike the first volume of Captain America, Daredevil Vol. 1 had some real bad stories, in my opinion, namely D.G. Chichester's and J.M. De Matteis'. Accordingly, I think that #292-300 and #319-350 are best avoided.

It's a bit of a shame, because there was much potential in the artwork of Scott McDaniel.

The second volume is not really my thing, but there was one story that I really did like, Playing to the Camera, #20-25, written by Bob Gale.

It is my contention that although forgotten, it's not forgettable!;)

It's really an old school story, with Daredevil being sued for destruction of property IIRC, and the Jester serving papers on him through a ruse.

It reminded me of DD #134-137, a classic Jester saga dealing with media manipulation, only the Jester in Gale's story is not really the homicidal loon he used to be, consistent with some developments in the character witnessed in #218.

The post "Fall From Grace" stories. There was a storyline written by a guy named Alan Smithee, the classic pseudo-name used by someone who is ashamed by their work. Really the first 50 issues of the 300's are the books I would avoid.

Personally with the possible exception of a single issue in the early teens, the entire Marvel Knights DD run has been great.

I enjoyed most runs for different reasons.

I liked the armored Daredevil period for its artistic quirkiness and for the design of the black suit (even if I agree that DD should really stay in his red duds).

I loved the pre-Miller run of McKenzie and Kane; you can see that Miller just steered the book, he didn't reinvent it from scratch.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nocenti's run.

...

The only one that disappointed me big time was the Kevin Smith run. A lot of flash and little substance, with the loss of a supporting character (and those don't come cheap).

The Smithee story was Chichester (I forgot where I read that). He brought back Kingpin but Fisk doesnt recognize Murdock just because the costumes different?

Then the awful Demattis (whose work I usually enjoy) soul searching issues, w/ the tranny known as "Sir". Thats a character that no one wants to bring back.

The whole Jack Battlin era of D.D. didnt flow very well, but I liked the idea of D.D.'s costume using military bio-technology, to protect him better.

Daredevil's worst run might have been when he shared the title with the Black Widow, from #97-107. There was a number of issues after that where she still appeared in the upper right hand corner picture, but wasn't in the title and rarely in the comic.

That run wasn't bad because of Natasha. Their relationship was potentially interesting, and both characters were decent on their own. The real problem was that Steve Gerber dragged in a lot of extraneous elements that didn't fit well with these street-level heroes. There were aliens and freaks and cultists and giants. There were two different villains who completely messed with the minds of the heroes and the readers. And for several bad issues, Captain Marvel and Moondragon guest-starred.

For me, it would be the DeMatteis run. I normally like his writing, but I don't think he ever quite got a handle on DD.
