Well, Atari is responsible for making "Driver" into a laughingstock, producing marginal Dragon Ball Z games, and giving us E.T.: The Game.

So, yes, it is the Touch of Death:

I'm just saying, Infogrames was doing pretty good as Infogrames. Then they change their name to Atari, and the first thing they do is release Enter the Matrix. Rediculously profitable? Probably. The game sold like hotcakes on a fat farm. But it sucked worse than the fat people shoveling in those hotcakes. Kind of set the tone for what was to come.

Here's the game that really messed up Infogrames when it became Atari:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d8/Driv3rbox.jpg

The dumbest moment in the game was when Jericho, even though he was probably filled with hot lead during the shootout, pulled a Superman, and came out unhurt. Then he cocked Tanner with one shot, and that took him down.

"Mistake, my ass!" should've been what Jericho should've said.

Driver hasn't been anything worth mentioning past the first entry, direct your anger towards Reflections Interactive. Supersonic Warriors/Budokai's about the only thing they've done right

I still have a lot of Resentment towards Atari, after the way they Treated Troika Games, in ToEE awhile back. If it wasn't for fan made patches, the game wouldn't be playable.

Still I'll give them a chance with NWN2, but i just doubt that It will come close to Biowares original, or even the old game on AOL.

I do hope they fix there financial mess, It seems we are loosing way to many major game companies lately. Ah well, back to waiting untill I can cash my check, and pick up Suikoden V and Titans quest tomorrow.

Didn't they make Neverwinter Nights? That was pretty good.

Really? What's that big "Atari" logo doing on my NWN box right in front of me then? Was Bioware the game studio and Atari the publisher, or something like that?

atari Published the game, IE provided the capital to Press the CD's, Payed Bioware to write the game, etc.

In my Opinion, Bioware has done more for NWN then atari has. With one Caveat, they did allow almost two years of patches to go through, and premium content. Of course they pulled the plug on Premium content, because they didn't want to compete with Obsidian on NWN2.

That said, I have no beef either with Obsidian, and I hope that NWN2 is a great game. One of my own personal thingies, and why I like RPG's so much, Is If I pay $50.00 + for a game, I want 100's of hours of game play. Alot of games these days don't offer that much in terms of length, and to be brutaly honest, I find most story lines to be lacking.

Why is Obsidian taking over for BioWare on Neverwinter Nights 2, anyways?

I for one was never sold on the revival of the Atari name. It died for a reason, and a well deserved one...

Obsidian works that way with BioWare a lot. They also did the sequal to Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic. From what I hear, they always do an awsome job.

As for Atari, I was part of making "Marc Ecko's Getting Up" early on, which Atari published, and from everything we experienced with Atari, they're NOT a quality publisher. I left the project last April, and still heard nothing but complaints about them. Bruno Bonnell (Atari's president) deserves props for taking chances, like he did with Marc Ecko's game, but Atari as a whole just isn't very organized. They have some good people there, but there are also a lot of people who don't do a good job, and Atari won't get rid of them. Good that they're loyal, but it's to a fault in this case, I think.
