My brother and I were discussing this a few weeks ago. With the recent successes of "Ray" and "Walk The Line", musician bio-pics seem to be the new trend. There's also a Jimi Hendrix movie in the works starring Lenny Kravitz, and I thought a Janis Joplin movie was being talked about in the last few years.

What other deceased musicians should have their story told in movie form? If there hasn't been one yet, I think Hank Williams' life would make a good movie.

A movie about legendary rock star Jeff Buckley is being made, according to reports. Buckley's mother Mary Guibert is understood to be working on the biopic, following the tragic death of her son in 1997.

Guibert is expected to produce the movie, which is being written and directed by Brian Jun. There is currently no information about who will play Buckley.

Speaking about the plans, Guibert said she had been inspired by the success and integrity of recent music biopics such as Ray and Walk The Line.

She commented: "Over the years, the number of offers were unceasing. I had resisted for so many reasons, one being that Hollywood, traditionally, did a lousy job of realistically portraying the life of people like Jeff. But the possibility that it could happen without my participation set me back to re-examine why I wasn't doing it."

Jeff Buckley released just one official LP, Grace, before drowning in 1997 at the age of 30.

Even though he's not dead, I would like to see a film about Glenn Danzig, starting with the days when he started the Misfits on to the present. Not sure who would be the best actor to portray him though.

The problem with music biopics is very rarely do they serve a purpose that a really good documentary could not do much better and at worst come across as a vanity project for the lead actor(ess).

A lot of musicians stories ultimately don't have a lot to say, he/she was born, became a famous star then died, is essentially nearly all music stories, beyond a death by excess or killed by love message there is often not a lot to say with a biopic.

A good documentary with the actual hits blaring out of a cinema system is usually a much better option, Ramones: End of the century, Elvis That's the way it is, The Filth and The Fury.

That said, I think a Kiss biopic could work, if it was handled in a very extreme manner, played very over the top.

I thought Andre 3000 (OutKast) was attached to the Hendrix flick? I thought I heard Renee Zellweger was attached to the Joplin one too with Melissa Etheridge doing the music.

I know Robert Rodriguez has wanted to do a Stevie Ray Vaughn biopic for years (with Pitt or Depp), but there hasn't been much talk about it recently. I've also heard talk of a Brian Jones (Rolling Stones) movie with DiCaprio expressing interest.

Leo Jones recently played Brian Jones in Stoned, the story of the life and death of the founder of the Rolling Stones.

There was a great documentary last year called the Nomi Song, about performance/artist/singer Klaus Nomi who was very influential for a brief period in the early 80's in NYC, then was one of the first to be claimed by AIDS.

Given the wealth and power of the Osbornes these days, and the reverent nature of fandom around Randy Rhodes, it amazes me that there's yet to be a bio-pic on him!
