View Full Version : Exiles # 83 -- minor spoilers

I liked this book. Now that the Proteus story has reached a temporary conclusion, the Exiles have some downtime to take care of old business -- sending back the bodies of their prior members and members of Weapon X to their own Earths as well as sending those who did not die, but were withdrawn from service because of injuries.

The story ends with
Blink taking Mimic back to the x-Men of his Earth. Next issue is the funeral

Though my favorite part was
Thunderbird is still with us and may be patched up at some point. Soon I hope.

And for action, the Exiles fight an Iromman who does not want to go home.

Commments, folks?

I stopped reading at issue #79 for a few reasons (none of them involve bad quality). What is the current status of Longshot?

He's still there, he just hasn't done much of anything since the 2099 world. Every world has the same thing- he throws his spikes at Proteus, Proteus blocks or dodges them, and Longshot gets smacked down like a chump. his luck power for some reason not protecting him. I'm disappointed, to be honest... Bedard was talking about how he was looking forward to really exploring the character, and maybe he WAS planning to do that after World Tour, but now his time is limited, and where does that leave Longshot?

I thought it was a good issue.

I don't know about anyone else but I liked this book becuase of the rotating cast. Bedard has only killed 2 characters since he came on, before that there were loads of deaths. (Okay Austen mostly did them but still). So I couldn't care less about Blink and her grief about Mimic.

I did notice though, there were 2 character missing from being sent home for funerals. (1) Sunfire (2) SheHulk from the Weapon X team. (The one that was alive just in another dimension.

She-Hulk got shipped back home after she killed Deadpool quite a number of issues ago.

Sunfire was buried on the Douglock world so that she could be near her lover, Mary Jane Watson (Spider Woman).

She-Hulk was sent back to her world when the Exiles first came to the Crystal Palace. And she killed Deadpool before she left. For real this time (I think.)

..what?

No, She-Hulk got sucked into another dimension in the "With an Iron Fist" story back arround issue #24 I think. She was replaced with Colossus.

Was she revived in that story where he regened not long ago?
Yeah, when she got sucked into another dimension the bugs snagged her and stuck her in the crystal palace wall. Just after the Exiles defeated Hyperion and they were trying to find a means of healing Mimic from his injuries, the Dr. Strange they recruited to help Calvin defrosted Deadpool from the crystal palace wall. Deadpool killed him and then grabbed Heather Hudson and made her help defrost his friends. She-Hulk was the first one defrosted, and Beak released Mimic from the wall so he could copy Deadpool's powerset and recover. She-Hulk ended up backstabbing Deadpool and splattered him to bits, and then was sent home by the Exiles afterwards.

Weapon X.

Wolverine (Earth #172). James "Logan" Howlett - Founding member. First seen in Exiles #62. He was killed off panel before Exiles #5 and confirmed dead in Exiles #68. He wasn't immediately replaced but after some mission by the second wave of recruits (Hulk I, Storm and Daredevil). Sent home in Exiles #83. Was somehow romantically involved with Mariko in his world.

Hey, that WAS cool... I'll be the first to say it. When he's brainwashed into being ruthless, Longshot is the wroooong mofo to mess with. It's just that cool scenes are one thing, actual character exploration and growth another. This was a good issue, and it's what it should have been -- they needed a couple of issues to come down after the World Tour -- but with Bedard's departure, it might be back into limbo for Longshot.

And that would suck.

Doubtful. Claremont's planning an eventual Dazzler/Longshot reunion at some point during a New Excalibur/Exiles crossover. So Longshot isn't headed to limbo anytime soon. :)

It was either Claremont or Mike Marts who several months ago talked about an eventual crossover.

I cant wait until Nov 1st because World Tour Book II hits stores and I only get TPBs.

So Mimic is official dead? To bad he was my second favorite character and with multiple healing factors I was hoping to see him pull through. At the same time the fact that team members die/leave is one of the biggest draws to the title.

I have to admit that I’m looking forward to Psylocke becoming a member. I’ve never really read much of her before but I liked her character and I found the psyblade to be an interesting weapon. I wonder who she will replace? Keeping fingers crossed that she wont be from 616. The normal universe has played a big enough role and I’d rather they don’t recruit or visit it for a while.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Thunderbird come back but I think he would decline to help and head to 616 to be with Nocturne.

I’m curious as to what the team will be after the Wolverine arc. I really like the idea of Longshot and Sipder-Man 2099 being on the team so hopefully they’ll stick around for a while.

So if you could add characters to the team who would they be?

It is the 616 Psylocke. She got grabbed from the latest issue of New Excalibur (#8) and has already been confirmed as being the new team member coming on board with Claremont's arrival as the new writer. It looks like the Shadow King may be the new 'Big Bad' for Exiles, and that Wanda's 'No More Mutants' woogie caused cracks to ripple out from the 616 reality and effect the Multiverse. :)

Yeah, but a well known 616 character like Psylocke who still has a lot of story to tell, will help keep Exiles alive. Since she has a lot of fans, that will help maybe get the numbers up on the book.

Well, the plan was for her to be in #84 next month, as that would've been Claremont's first EXILES issue.

But health issues have forced him off all his books for the time being - as a result, Tony Bedard gets to play with EXILES for a while longer (which I'm happy about). However, Psylocke disappeared in NEW EXCALIBUR on schedule it seems, hence this awkward and unintentional gap in her appearance schedule...

Since Tony Bedard now has some extra issues to do (since Claremont's not starting with #84 as was the original plan before his health problems) I understand T-Bird will be dealt in some manner over the next few months (as Tony said over at his forums here at CBR).

I asked Claremont about Longshot once, and he said that Longshot is Ann's creation and he would never write him again without her expressed permission. Given the fact that they don't keep in touch (to my knowledge), one shouldn't get his/her hopes up of seeing Longshot in Chris's upcoming run...

But we can always cross our fingers ;)

Hell, Bedard added Beak... who was a fairly popular character from Morrison's run. So it's hardly something new. And for god sake, the book was created to cater to fans of AOA, bringing in Blink and a very AOAish Morph. And then there was the addition of the AOA Holocaust and AOA Sabretooth. :p

I'd like to see 616 characters from other times maybe, but EXILES takes place in a set timeframe - and that's probably a good thing, as I'm sure the concept would've been all freaked up by now if they could travel alongtime the timescape as well as across space and universes.

It's unfortunate, though, that the first and last time EXILES met up with the 616 Marvel Universe was during the Chuck Austen run and crossed over with a very awful Chuck Austen UXM story... *shudder* If anything, this Psylocke inclusion would be a step up. ;) :p

She's a mid-level X-Men member. Yeah, she has fans; so did Maggot (not that I'm comparing the two; I like Psylocke better than him.) All I'm saying is that she's not going to have a major effect on sales. Of course, I could be wrong. So let's see.

BTW, I should not be seen as anti-Psylocke. I don't think any X-Man (with the possible exception of Wolverine) joining the team will have much of an effect. The book has to thrive based on its stories and art. I hope it will because I've loved the book since it began.
