Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories??

Okay so I just beat KH2.. The beginning had me at something of a loss even though I pretty much kinda think I understood what was going on, but thought I would get a full explanation at some point during the game. That explanation never came. Like how exactly Sora got split up, and his nobody Roxas was created. Sora would have to become a heartless for a nobody to be created, right? When did this happen? I thought that would be answered, and there IS a point in the game when Mickey or someone is explaining that. Sora says something like "I never became a heartless...." then pauses and remembers that he DID, BUT he remains quiet about it. Why didnt they retell how he did? 'Cus it sure as hell would have helped me out.

Also how was the nobidy Nomine created from Kairi? That bothered me as well. I read in the Ansem reports that Sora and Kairi switched hearts at some point. That just confuses me. I dont remember any of that. Then there's the matter of Oganization XIII, but we only dealt with half of the group cus the other half was already dead. WTF? Then I heard they were a part of the events in KH:Chain of Memories.

So I guess my question would be: Is Chain of Memories worth getting?

I would love to get the whole story cleared up, but most importantly, is it a fun game to play? I wouldnt want to put myself through hours of a crappy game just to understand everything that went on in KH2.

Play the first Kingdom Hearts. If you are still confised then play Chain of Memories or read this which summerizes Chain of memories...

I bought Kingdom Hearts 2 on its release date, but never actually played it until recently because I was still finishing up the first game. I own both games. And you didnt answer my intended question: is Chain of Memories worth getting? But thanks for taking the time since no one else has.

It became very tedious after a while. I got pretty far into it but after a week or so it just fell by the wayside. It's a card-based battle system so don't go in expecting KH 1.5 or anything.


Sora was a Heartless for a bit in KH1.

Like someone already said, it gets tedious after a while. But it does help explain some of the events that take place in KH2(like why Sora was in stasis for a whole year and why Riku has Xehanort/Fake Ansem's appearance). If you wanna understand the entire story, I suggest getting CoM(but it's not truly necessary).

I believe the scene where Sora was a heartless was shown when Sora was wondering when he became a heartless in KH II , he became a heartless when he releases Kairi's heart within himself as Kairi heart was within him all this time Sora was looking for her in KH I. That was how Namine and Roxas was created i guess. :)

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the good honest answers to my question. Its just boggling my mind as how I seem to not remember any of this 'Sora becomeing a heartless' at all. I assume it must've happened sometime in the middle of part 1 because I replayed the beginning of part 1 and the ending of part1, just before diving into part 2. And if not, then I guess I'm just gonna have to play both games back to back all over again.
