Alright guys, recently dusted off my SNES and started playing contra. Now the code for infinite lives has become a mantra of sorts for gamers. but like all oral history, there are several version of the story.

So can anyone hook me up with the infitine lives code for Contra for the SNES and when to enter it.

Thanks guys! Sometimes you got to knock it back to 16 Bit and remeber where you came from.

Do you mean Contra 3? I thought Contra was for the original NES.

If it's regular contra, it's up down up down left right left right b a b a start

if it's two players, hit select then start

I always thought it was up, down, up, down, left, right A, B, A, B, START.

Um.... no, that's wrong for the NES.

The Konami Code is: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

You don't press select in the Contra version of the code.

I just got back from playing it, and the code is:

Up, up, down down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start

The select is only for two-player mode. If you are playing a single player game, you would not need to press select.

As an additional piece of trivia, the Konami code needs to be entered before the gunshot sound either begins or finishes (as quickly as possible, in other words) when the opening player select screen scrolls onto the screen.

The select is only for two-player mode. If you are playing a single player game, you would not need to press select.

Furthermore, you can press Select before you even enter the code, which is actually just the UUDDLRLRBA. Start only, of course, starts the game.

To elaborate:

You can do it one of two ways in Lifeforce/Contra:

UUDDLRLRBA(enter the code)select(set it to two players)start(begin the game)

OR

select(set it to two players)UUDDLRLRBA(enter the code)start(begin the game)

For example, when you pause the game in Gradius and enter the Code, the powerups will appear the second you hit A. Start only served to unpause the game, and Select did nothing.
