I know this is a animated thing and not a comic, but seemed fitting in this forum.

Anyone remember this from awhile back?

Did that make anymore episodes besides this one? I dont recall any or even what this one show was for but it was awesome. Was it a pilot or something?

The animation was awesome, the charcters drawn really great, the voice acting cool and just generally awesome. Magneto was done really well, he was like jim lee's version of him.

On a fluke I did a search for it on limewire and found it for download. Its obviously a vhs copy but its still cool to have none the less.

I could be wrong, but I think it was a pilot that never went anywhere.

The Australian Wolverine still confuses the hell out of me.

Yeah, this was the one pilot that was never followed up on, and then they started all over again with the 90s television FOX series.

I saw back when there was no possibility of any other X-Men cartoon and I cherished it. It was a great episode and I sort of always wished the 90s cartoon would ref to it once in a while.

ya, i remember buying this cartoon on video as a kid. they also based a fantastic 4 player coin-up arcade game on the pilot.

Didn't they also feature an Australian Wolverine in Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends?

Yeah. They used the same voice actor for that. I belive he was also one of the Dreadnoks on G.I. Joe.

I loved that video (still have it too...)

It was a failed attempt at a pilot, but served as the starting point for discussions with Fox on what became the 90's series that most of us know (and love?).

Of course there were some changes made (such as Wolverine's voice). Kitty herself got axed by Fox between this version and the actual made series since the producers wanted the young newbie girl mutant to have more visual powers...so enter Jubilee into the series, and out went Kitty (boooo....)

Kitty would go on to have a larger role than Jubilee in The X-Films.

Viewers laughed loudly when Iceman was scared of phasing..

I loved this piece of animated goodness. It was just so much fun. I found Kitty to be super-annoying, but everything else was great.

I guess (s)he who laughs last (and all that....)

She got good play in X-Men: Evolution, and now in the movies. So I'm fine with it overall. Wouldn't mind seeing her pop up in a video game (a la Jubilee in X-Men Legends #1) outside of being an NPC. But since she is now back to getting monthly comics action (thanks Joss Whedon!) and Jube's got M-Day'd. I'm overall a happy camper (but boy the 90's Fox cartoon sure ticked me off during the first runs when virtually every other major x-character, and many minor ones, at least cameod...)

Glad to hear the response in your theater showing was as good as in mine...

When I went to see X3 they actually played this before the movie started. They also played clips from the other X-Men animated projects.

That was one awesome theme song. :)

If this toon aired today, there would doubtlessly be a hundred angry threads about this line:

Storm: "Leave her alone, Wolverine. Don't you remember how scared you were when you first became an X-Man?"

That and Emma's energy spears.

Awww, this brings back childhood memories. Yeah, I definitely own the VHS version of this episode. It's such a classic. I remember this was when I really started liking the White Queen, cos she was pretty bad ass in this pilot, hurling those psychic spears or whatever. Very cool. And I liked Dazzler in this series too. It was a very strange lineup though. What year was it made in? Late 80s? Cos you had Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Dazzler, and Prof X. And Storm was in her her old old old 70s costume too, if I remember correctly. Definitely and interesting lineup. :)

Anybody else wonder what it woulda been like if we got to see this killer lineup in animated action on FOX Kids Saturday mornings?

Back before we could get the X-Men in consistent doses through TAS & Evolution, it was great to see the team appear in this program & on those ongoing Spiderman & his Amazing Friends spots

edit: i just picked up the animation special last week on sale at the LCBS!!

I remember when I first saw the video at a store as a kid. Me and my bro were HUGE fans of the arcade game and never knew there was a cartoon with the same cast. I think the animation was great, even better than what we got with the 90s series or Evolution. I enjoyed the cast as well, even though Colossus referred to himself in the 3rd person and the team action was a little lacking. Still, it was enjoyable. I really wish Marvel would give the X-Men videogame rights to Konami again. I doubt we'd get another classic beat-em up, but we could probably get a much better RPG than Raven has delivered (and since Konami is behind the Suikoden series...which boasts 108 recruitable characters, I'm pretty sure if they were to do a X-Men RPG every known-character would be included ;P)

ah, and I know the "who should play Dazz in a movie" question was not directed toward me, but I just want to say--Kylie Minogue is Dazzler. That is all ;)

Gwen stefani would make a cool dazzler hehe.

But in all honestity, I hope no one plays dazzler. Infact I hope no one plays anyone in anymore X movies till they can learn to do it properly or bryan singer comes back. That brent ratner horrid pile of crap they called x-men 3 was a set back in terms of comics to movies. Not exactly as bad as say the man-thing movie but still it was a self indulgent piece of undigestable tripe that annoyed me more than entertained me.

Agreed. Ratner's vision appeared to be ' These are the few X-Men characters I like, and sod all the rest. Kill them, don't use them, whatever...'

Opinionated, self-agenda'd crap. pure and simple.

Have been considering attempting to find a bootleg of Pryde of the X-Men for a while, now. This may have retriggered my interest.

Gwen Stefani would be perfect as the Dazzler. She has the look, can sing, dresses nearly like Dazzler does in the comic, and is HOT!:D I can't think of anyone else who would be more perfect for that character then her.

This lady would. Dance/House songs, nice figure, looks great as a blonde, her dances and hand motions, she uses a lot of light effects in her music videos, and the dress-skirt she wore in "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" looks very Dazzler-ish (its silver and the folds on it make it look like Dazz's old bracelets and boots). I like Gwen a lot, but it's no contest--Kylie is Dazzler personified ;)

many a summer afternoon was spent mastering that arcade game. i was always Nightcrawler or Cyclops. i'm not sure how anyone (unless they were left-handed) played as Dazzler. and Colossus was too slow. best part of the game is when Nimrod comes out and starts beating on his chest.

i personally would like to see Natasha Bedingfield play Dazzler. i have no idea if she can act, but the girl can sing, and not in a fake American Idol way. She has legit talent.

if it were Ultimate Dazzler (which i would prefer in a movie), it would have to be Peaches. She's badass.
:) i do so hope that Dazzler movie comes to pass.

You know, the animation for Pryde of the X-Men blows both X-Men:TAS and Evo out of the water, straight up. I love that high quality, full flow animation that never gets made anymore. So, so sad.
Nowadays, they'll cut any corner.

The voice actor who did Wolverine for Pryde of the X-men also did the voice work for Pyro in the 90's cartoon.

Are you sure about that? I don't think that's the case. I've always seen Neil Ross credited as Wolverine in Pryde, and a guy named Gaham Halley or Haley as Pyro in the 90s cartoon.

Besides, the voice actors for Pryde were American, and the ones for the 90s show were Canadian. There isn't usually a lot of overlap between Canadian and American voice actors (kind of a trade dispute between them).

The show & the '92 Konami game don't get nearly enough play!

Marvel should really release this game for mass distribution, packaged together with a complimentary copy of Pryde of the X-Men DVD :D

Yeah, I really did love that old pilot! I always wished it had become a regular series. The voice acting was a little wince inducing (Colossus sounded like a moron, Wolverine the Aussie, The Blob sounding Eastern European instead of like a Texan... "Nutting can move.....Da BLOB!") but the animation was great and I enjoyed the storyline too! I just hope someday they will release it on DVD (and the 90's series too, dammit!).
