Seriously you spend 5 issues following Rock, and his fellow soldiers through the icey hell that is the shifting lines of the Eastern front, they come across partisans who are brutal and merciless and collaborators who try to turn them in, and a concetration camp all this while evading German and Russian patrols ( they have no friendlies in this case ) all the while this little jewish almost christlike figure keeps forshadowing the Holocaust and up untill now its been a decent series.

which has been bringing me back lots of memories of reading SGT.Rock as a kid, and then ... the finale ... its like they knew they had to wrap it up in issue 6 and placed no effort into it, they get to the bombed out city have a pathetic gunfight with some meathead SS nazi's who are more then willing to go roof jumping with them, to put the Jewish dude on a Helicopter? ..... a godamn Helicopter? I mean for christ sake I dont ask for Reality in Comic books, I love SGT.Fury by marvel and comics are the farthest thing from Reality i realise this, but they just give him to a helo that shows up a decade befor it was invented, and then Rock is like "Saddle up we have a war to fight" ... where? who? lol they are in the middle of godamn Riga where can they possibly go? who can they possibly going after now? thier mission was to get the kid out of there ... and that was that, they made no mention of aimlessly walking around eastern europe inbetween the Soviets and the Nazi's for no reason what so ever other then not knowing how to end the comic series in 6 issues.

I was terribly let down, despite it keeping me interested the rediculous ending just about had me ready to try to forget the series ever printed.

I guess I was the only one who read "Sgt.Rock The Prophecy 1-6" then?

Hi, I agree that the ending was just ok.

I really enjoyed this series, mainly for Kubert's art, but also I thought it was an interesting story. Some hilights for me were issue 3 with the interrogation and issue 5 with the special drawings.

Nice covers too, although Bulldozer looks too old on #2.

I hope Kubert does more Rock. Any idea what he's up to next?

I tried to read this series, but it just didn't hold my interest at all. I dropped it after the 2nd issue. The sad thing is, I really wanted to like this one too.

Well I was able to keep interest, But as you can tell from my rant the ending was terrible.

I think the whole series could have been done in maybe three issues max. But of course, that doesnt make for a good TPB. It was great to see the Rock again and it would be great to see a Showcase.

But the ending.........very poor, very anti-climatic.

I stuck with it. It didn't pay off for me either. It was OK.

Hello! My co-host and I are interviewing Joe Kubert on the radio today, Friday, June 30, at 4 PM Eastern and 1 PM Pacific. I plan to ask him what's next. Joe mentioned in an interview with Mitchell Anthony in April that he knew what his next project would be. I hope he can give us a clue today, or more.

If you're interested, "Marc," and any other Kubert fan for that matter, the show
http://www.wrnj.com/timetravel.cfm

can be heard live online today at

http://www.wrnj.com/streaming.htm

If you don't get to hear it, I'll report back here what he says of his next project(s). Within a couple of weeks, the show will be in the TIME TRAVEL Archives for further listening and downloading.

(You and I probably both read from the previews that Joe will have a FLASH poster coming out next year with son, Andy.)

We will be discussing SGT. ROCK: THE PROPHECY for part of the interview, but I'm not planning on discussing the ending on the air since it's so recent. I don't think a majority of my listeners would like to know how it ends since they haven't read it yet. It's an Oldies Music station that also has talk shows. We have listeners who really know their comics history, but we will have many who haven't read a SGT. ROCK story since they were kids, and also those who haven't heard of the character despite Rock's longevity.

Thanks! :)

Y'know, it didn't hit me until now that a 6-part Joe Kubert Sgt. Rock story just......doesn't seem right. All those old stories took 1 issue to resolve in the ol' days, and yet this one took 6? Weird...

Hey Jeff, great show! I like the relaxed tone of the interview, sounds fun. Missed the first part though.

Joe sounds great too! Did I hear he's doing a new Tor book?

Thank you so much, Marc!

He looks great, too! Very fit. Yes, Joe Kubert is doing a new TOR story. I don't have a copy of the show at home yet to give you Joe's exact quote, but as I understand it, Tor is going to have a new six-issue miniseries from DC Comics. It will be a bit of a different spin from the type of Tor stories told in the past. I hadn't heard this anywhere before our show, so until someone shows me otherwise, I'll take it as the biggest comics news our TIME TRAVEL show has broken so far. :)

Thanks again for spending part of your afternoon with us, Marc. I'll let you know when the episode is available for downloading.

Valen pretty much summed it up for me, as well, though I stuck through it, just out of respect for Joe Kubert. But the set's in my boxes for 'resale' some day, and not out with the comics I enjoy year after year.
