SUPERHERO MOVIE MUSIC SYMPHONY CONCERT IN BELLFLOWER,
CALIFORNIA BY THE GOLDEN STATE POPS ORCHESTRA

“SUPERHEROES AND BEYOND”, a spectacular theatrical concert performed by the Golden State Pops Orchestra (www.gspo.com), will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2006 at 3:00 pm at the Bristol Civic Auditorium, Bellflower, CA.

This spectacular show will feature music from popular superhero films, such as Superman: The Movie by John Williams, Batman by Danny Elfman, X-Men2 by John Ottman, Spider-Man 2 by Danny Elfman and more. The show will also include superhero images projected on screen as the orchestra performs the crowd pleasing music. To enhance the show’s comic book theme, GSPO is currently developing partnerships with California comic book retailers, superhero costumed impersonators, set designers, and comic book creators to participate in the show.

“SUPERHEROES AND BEYOND”, was envisioned by Steven Allen Fox and the producer of the show, BattleWorlds comic book creator George Edwards.

As a highlight to the show, the GSPO is proud to debut the “BattleWorlds Main Title”, music composed and conducted by Mr. Fox.

"In debuting the 'BattleWorlds Main Title' concert piece is an extra bonus. This represents a historic first for superhero creations,” said Mr. Edwards. “This is the very first time that a superhero creation has an accompanying soundtrack during its own cross media development plans. The BattleWorlds comic books, storyboards, style guide and numerous discussions helped Mr. Fox compose the piece, as well as plan out the soundtrack for the entire epic. This is an unprecedented comic book / symphony music collaboration. This underscores the importance of music in content creation”

IN THE PRODUCER’S WORDS (George Edwards):

Producer George Edwards is creative director for the GSPO superhero show. He is also the creator/writer/artist for the comic book superhero epic BattleWorlds (www.battleworlds.com)

Mr. Edwards has produced some spectacular shows for the GSPO in the past, including the 2005 Star Wars show, titled “May the Force Be With You” and the 2006 sci-fi movie music show “Out of this World”.

He hints “SUPERHEROES AND BEYOND”, at the Bristol Civic Auditorium, will be a “spectacular one-of-a-kind experience. In partnering with a first-rate venue like the Bristol Civic Auditorium, we will have a quality superhero show for audiences. We have music from John Williams’ Superman, Danny Elfman’s Spiderman, We’ll have dynamic superhero projections accompanying the orchestral performance; Costumed impersonators will be on scene, fresh from the San Diego Comic Con dressed up as Superman, batman, Spider-Man and others will be present.”

“Looking in terms of our popular culture, many say that superheroes have replaced the ancient mythological heroes,” said BattleWorlds creator George Edwards. “Just as ancient mythology was the fabric of epic storytelling in ancient time, superhero action and their selfless feats of valor provide the same value for contemporary followers. The greatest superheroes derive from world mythology. These new heroes delve in modern-day morality plays: their pathos, inner conflict, and eventual triumph are part of the reason why superheroes have a great universal appeal. These heroes spark the imagination of all ages and all nationalities.”

“Popular superheroes have a human side that people relate with.”

Mr. Edwards believes that GSPO’s pioneering approach to concert entertainment is establishing a higher standard for entertainment. The future for GSPO is in audio/visual pops entertainment. “The GSPO is the only orchestra entity in CA that focuses on pops music combined with visual entertainment media. Because of this pioneering approach, the GSPO is becoming an important California institution.”

Edwards on GSPO and BattleWorlds: “I’m thrilled to partner with Steve and the GSPO to feature BattleWorlds superheroes during the show. We will have BattleWorlds comic books, props, statuettes and information booth for the audience located at the lobby; and I’m especially honored to have Mr. Fox compose and conduct the music to BattleWorlds. This will be an amazing soundtrack. Nothing like this has ever been attempted. I believe this is one of the many aspects that demonstrate BattleWorlds to be unique, original and groundbreaking in the history of superhero creations.”

BattleWorlds is a superhero sci-fi universe created by George Edwards in the early 1990's.
The saga began with the comic books BattleWorlds: Secret Origins and BattleWorlds: FutureWar , which was available online in 2002. BattleWorlds is developing partnerships to have a growing collection of licensed books, comics, video games, movies, animation, soundtrack, television series, toys, etc.

BattleWorlds is a three-part epic saga: FutureWar, AmazonWar and WorldWar.

As a prime example of the superhero / space opera genre, the BattleWorlds story also evokes archetypal motifs common to superhero, science fiction and classical mythology.

George is the BattleWorlds writer/artist, creator and developer. The aim is to portray the essence of superheroes-our new mythology- in the form of steadfast heroes, woman warriors, future tech heroes, as well as anti-heroes. It's a genre-merging epic, mixing superheroes with sci-fi, action, fantasy, aliens and WWII.

The three main heroes in this sage are Mega: Earth's Greatest Hero , Sol: Amazon Warrior and Night:Protector/Vigilante .

GEORGE EDWARDS
GSPO is once again working with SCI-FI producer, George Edwards, to create the concert, "Out of This World". Mr. Edwards last produced with GSPO on "May the Force Be With You - Star Wars In Concert" in May of 2005.

Creative Director George Edwards is a driving force in content creation. An SVA graduate, George worked in the industry as an art and creative director, digital video director and editor, concept illustrator, graphic designer, comic book artist, character designer and storyboard artist.

George was responsible for significant design improvements in the comic book industry, and played a key directing role as a lead designer for its special projects divisions, such as working as a production designer for Warner Brothers Consumer Products and other entertainment companies. At that point, George was inspired to identify a formula for content creation.

In the late 80’s George worked in the industry during the end of the traditional era and pioneered the beginning of the 90’s digital era of the desktop publishing revolution. “I’ve seen the industry grow in leaps and bounds with the advent of digital media. These tools enhance the creative process, but I’ll always emphasize the importance of the human factor in creativity. That’s the single greatest tool we have.”

A lifelong superhero and SCI-FI fan, he created his own superhero / SCI-FI adventure story - BattleWorlds. (www.battleworlds.com), (www.georgeedwardsmedia.com)

The GOLDEN STATE POPS ORCHESTRA (GSPO) was formed in January of 2002 and is currently the only year-round pops orchestra in the Los Angeles area. The GSPO focuses on exciting and innovative concerts that are designed to entertain both the seasoned enthusiast as well as the casual music lover. The orchestra's repertoire includes film and television scores, legendary Broadway hits, and popular music of all kinds. Along with the more modern genres, the GSPO frequently programs influential pieces of the standard orchestral repertoire.

GSPO concerts often feature prominent guest artists and speakers. Recent guests include singer/actress Chase Masterson (of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fame), Emmy Award winning comedian, Pat Hurley, and the charttopping modern rock band, Dishwalla. In 2005, the orchestra gave the North American concert premiere of John Williams' "Battle of the Heroes" from Star Wars: Episode III-Revenge of the Sith. In addition, the GSPO's recording of Mascagni's "Intermezzo Sinfonico" from "Cavalleria Rusticana" has been featured on commercials for the television show, Alias.

The Golden State Pops Orchestra is composed of professional freelance musicians from around the Los Angeles area, many of whom are active in the recording industry. The GSPO's musicians have played on the soundtracks to films such as King Kong, Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Nemo and Fat Albert, along with television shows including The Simpsons and King of the Hill.

"Superheroes and Beyond" produced by BattleWorlds comic book creator George Edwards

The Golden State Pops performed its movie music symphony concert at the Bristol Civic Auditorium in Bellflower, CA. The show was a great success, and was a unique experience for audiences. Not only did they experience movie music from Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, but they also witnessed the world premiere of music from BattleWorlds.

"This has never been done before. BattleWorlds has just made comic book and entertainment history. This is the first time a comic book creator teams up with a film music composer to score the soundtrack to a comic book", says Mr. Edwards. "Usually when a comic book is adapted to a movie, the score is composed during production or post-production of the movie adaptation, never in the comic book stages. To put it into perspective, how cool would it have been if Siegel and Shuster teamed up with John Williams to score his Superman suite for Action Comics No. 1! I am very pleased with this first score- the BattleWorlds Overture; it feels epic, like the call of mythic Olympian champions. In the end, we will release 10 symphonic tracks that captures the character and action of the amazing BattleWolrds universe."

The BattleWolds Overture was accomanied by a theatrical video projection of animation from BattleWorlds.
