Beast as an Avenger questions

In what issue did the Beast first join the Avengers? And how did he get recruited? Finally, how many years was Beast in the Avengers?

I believe he joined in #137 (although he may not have been formally added to the roster until #150-151). The Avengers were short-handed and looking for new members, and the Beast answered the add to try out as a provisional Avenger.
Beast stayed on the active roster until #210, and has made occassional appearances as a reserve member since then.

Beast joins the Avengers on a provisional basis in Avengers #137 with Moondragon; however, Beast's provisonal basis ends in Avengers #150-151. He joins in Avengers #137 though. Every Avenger has a provisional basis of some kind before they officially join the team. Beast's membership comes out of Amazing Adventures #11-17. Beast's tenure as an Avenger is Avengers #137-211 plus the annuals. Beast joins the Defenders afterwards...

Its pretty interesting to now see that the Beast was w/ the Avengers for a good couple of years (mid/late 70's to early 80's). Wish he would return to the Avengers, I think he's more interesting in their environment than the Xmen or Defenders.

It's kind of a wierd thing for me.

Beast can work perfectly as both and Avenger and an X-Man but for some reason due to his heavy affiliation with the X-Men he's always seemed like he was out of his league with the Avengers with such powerhouses on the team already. I'm not saying saying that he didn't bring value and his own personality and quirks to the team, just that it seemed like a weird environment to see him in especially after being "hated and feared", now people didn't mind him so much especially when he hung around with Wonder Man.

I'd love for him to return to the Avengers though after Astonishing or somewhere in future crossroads. It would especially be cool to have him on a same team as Wonder Man for another reunion but for now we'll have to settle with the fun Busiek/Perez issue of Avengers #14.
