You know, the vast majority of the people on this board are really good people. We all have our strange quirks (some more than others, none more than SK) but I still like most of you. The people on this board are intelligent, passionate and for the most part extremely compassionate people.
So why the hell do we have threads like the Anne Coutler thread, which is almost as ugly as the subject itself (just kidding, couldn't resist.) I am seeing people who are intelligent and basically good get into really pointless, ugly fights over nothing. It's downright depressing. I may get into fights, but I make sure that it doesn't last the day. It's just not worth it and I would rather have fun on here then just fight.
You want to debate, fine, go for it. Just remember that the person you are debating is not the badguy. Keep the debates civil and remember when they are finished, leave it as finished.
Mommy, Daddy, Other Mommy, Straight Mommy, Sugar Daddy, Brothers, Sisters, Sisters who were Brothers, Brothers Who Argue Against Marrying Their Sisters, Weird Uncle Cam....can't we all just get along?
Everybody take a break from the Anne Coutler thread for the weekend and on Monday let Sabrinaset continuity punch you.

As I attempt to in all political discussions... I'm staying focused on the topic.
Debate is natural and healthy... attacks on the person cross the line, that's what Coulter did.
What's going on in the world right now... it's far too important to keep silent about.

Ah, who takes it seriously?
You guys are all wrong.

And it's confined to a few threads.

Knees to groins are so overdone.
I guess you don't know anything about today's modern women, we just gouge eyes out.

This is why don't follow any political party. Too much argument.
Here's my plan for selecting our leaders.
Reality show.
1. Comb the nation for people over the age of 35 with an IQ above 150.
2. Once gathered give them a battery of tests which cover practical living as well as academics. Those with average low scores are eliminated.
3. Give the remaining contestants $10,000 and one year to see how much they can increase that money through legal and ethical means. The top ten money makers continue on to the next round.
4. All contestants most complete basic Army boot camp. Those who complete it move on.
5. The final round is free-for-all unarmed combat. Last person standing is president, second to last is the VP.

Yeah, but it's my favorite.
I've built up a tolerance to it.

People are arguing about stuff? I just never read those few threads, so I had no real idea.
Maybe I'll just pop in and post controversial things that I don't believe in. :)

Never mind, GlennWatson's already made that one thread nearly unreadable, from the quoted comments I've read.

I try to keep up on some of those threads, but after a while, the arguments just become too convoluted and I have to give up.

I pretty much stay out of the political threads, anymore. I get tired of the fighting and the repetitive arguments.

Exactly.
I love a good debate, but there are honestly two things people should never debate on: religion and politics. A debate should, in its best form, allow you to gleam something from the other sides perspective. RARELY have I seen discussions based on either turn out good, mostly because its the two things that people are adamant about and refuse to realy 'listen' to the others viewpoint.
Basically, a recipe for disaster.

I don't really go into the political and religion threads, except the scientologist one but I just feel it's not worth it and it leads people to do some crazy things. I like a good debate and its left at that. I love this board, people are funny, crazy and very smart. It's like one big dysfunctional family :)

Oh wait. I thought he meant the fighting wasn't violent enough.
Sorry. Should've paid attention.

I don't even go *near* religion or politics threads. I don't need that kind of static in my life right now.
I don't really fight anybody.
I just let people think they're fighting me.
