Ok, hopefully this thread will attract fans of many genres and give us all something to conversate about.

Now basically what I'm asking is: What is your absolute favorite piece of music ever? Now I'm not saying song, I'm talking more narrow than that: that one section of music, whether with or without vocals, that just totally grabs you and puts you in a state of euphoria. That one piece that no matter how many times you hear it, it just never gets old.

I'll lead this bad boy off with mine:

The interlude in Metallica's "To Live is to Die" off of ...And Justice for All. Theres about a two or three minute stretch about half way through the song that becomes extremely melodic and harmonious and its just absolutely mezmorizing. That to me, is the most perfect piece of music I have ever heard.

Now, what is yours?

Yeesh, ask a tough one why dontcha...

I can only narrow it down to Boogsie Sharp's Hard Times, the Talking Heads' Sax and Violins, and Requiem from the soundtrack of Akira. I can think of no way of comparing those pieces... Not to mention the dozens of other things that might spring to mind if I thought about this longer.

the Blue Danube You just can't beat a good waltz, especially this one!

Close behind it, is Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. No other piece of music so encapsulates America in the 20th century!

I can't pick favorites because if I listen to something long enough, it gets boring and I have to move on.

Beethovan's Ninth Symphony

Only once a year, though, as to not spoil a little of the Ludwig Van.

"Oh bliss! Bliss and heaven! Oh, it was gorgeousness and gorgeousity made flesh. It was like a bird of rarest-spun heaven metal or like silvery wine flowing in a spaceship, gravity all nonsense now. As I slooshied, I knew such lovely pictures!" - Alex

I can listen to the interlude in Metallica's "Master of Puppets" time after time and it'll never get stale. For that matter, the interludes in a lot of Metallica songs have that same effect.

About three minutes into Queen's "Innuendo," there's a flamenco guitar solo (done by Steve Howe from Yes) that's later repeated by Brain May's electric guitar. Both versions are incredible.

And of course, the last half of Derek and the Dominoes' "Layla." Not enough can be said about it.

Moonsorrow - Sankaritarina Quite possibly the best "atmosphere" of any song. Ever.

Metallica - The Call Of Ktulu How could I not list it? It's where I got my username for christ's sake.

Dream Theater - A Change Of Seasons I'm not one to pay attention to vocals often, but James LaBrie is stunning on this piece. And the music is groovy to boot.

As for number 1, I'd bestow that honor to Iron Maiden's Run To The Hills. It's the only song that has ever made me want to exercise.
