Please leave your name and address so I can come to your house and kill you, which should effectively prevent you from breeding.

No seriously, give a good argument to as to how they're better. I need to hear it for myself.

I thought evanescene broke up a year ago, and i don't know who Nightwish is.
However, due to the fact evanescene sounded like a launching project for a female singer, who inserted innapropriate guitar solos into their songs at random (To remind people they RAWK!!!!!), i will agree that this band i have never heard of is better.

What he said. The test for Evanescense will be the next album, if there ever is one. The guy that did all those "random guitar solos" left and it's down to the Amy Lee to try and carry the band. I don't think she can, as evidenced by the sucktastically bland song she did with some other schmuck on the Punisher soundtrack.

Nightwish aren't bad, a little too operatic for my tastes. My biggest problem with them is that they remind me of my cousin, who is /still/ obsessed with hair metal. I think of that, and I get this overhwhelming feeling that they're dated, even if they really aren't.

Nightwish is also currently broken up, or at least looking for a new singer and lets face it, that's basically the same thing. Tarja Turunen defined the band.

Never heard of Nightwish but I love Evanescence as their Fallen album is one of my favorites so maybe I'll check them out to see if there is a comparison.

Also, I think Ev will carry on just fine with just Amy Lee if they ever do put out another album. Amy is the edgy part of the group. Josh Moody, the guy who quit, was the one trying to push them more into top 40 stuff. Best proof of that is the song My Immortal as that was a Moody song.

Evanescence lost my respect when she had the rapper in the middle of one her songs. She's basically a goth Mariah Carey.

I don't really like either of them. I saw Nightwish in concert, and while they put on a pretty good show (and did a Megadeth cover!?), I rarely find myself listening to them.

If I'm listening to metal with a female singer, I'll take Lacuna Coil or Arch Enemy instead.

Evanescence is a decent pop/rock band. Ben Moody was the guy who seemed to know what sold for top 40 radio. Its gonna be suprising to see if Amy Lee can make it.

Of course whenever the lead singer and ex-gf blames her bf for her bands failures ( yeah...shocking he was behind thier best track on that album) then whats that say about Amy Lee. Last I heard Moody is working on a solo project.

Aside from two Rock bands with Female leads? Not that I know of, two very different styles.

And which song pray tell was that? Because if you're thinking of Bring Me to Life my response is gonna be look your crap up before posting it, Paul McCoy and 12 Stones are HARDLY a Rap act.

An.... "aquaintence" of mine said, and I quote:

"Dude, Nightwish can't carry a tune in a f*ckin' bucket. Amy Lee sounds way better."

End quote.

The only reason he's still alive is because he was driving, and there were witnesses behind us.

I checked out a bunch of Nightwish videos on youtube. The lead singer is kinda hot. The videos are cool. The music, well I think I'll quit while I'm still being nice. Although it is better than Mariah Carey.

Well, I've never been able to get into Nightwish, just doesn't rub me the right way. I enjoy some Evanescence from time to time, so I suppose I do like them better.

But if we're gonna talk bands that have female "singers" (as compared to Angela from Archenemy) I would say Lacuna Coil is my favorite without a doubt, not only is Christina Scabbia gorgeous, but she has one hell of a voice.

I have no problem with people saying Lacuna Coil is better than Nightwish. They're pretty damn good. But you also said you preferred Evanescence to Nightwish....

Don't move....

Just kidding.

....

Or not.

Well, Evanescene has a new album out this fall, Open The Door, so we'll see if they can avoid the slump.

I still love Fallen, and it always sounds better after I haven't listened to it for a while. So I'm looking forward to the new album.

However, what he did in that song couldn't be called singing.
It wasn't rapping either though....
His contribution to the song was angst, he added tons of angst while angtying up the lyrics.

Just came across another group, Within Temptation, that might appeal to Evanescence, Nightwish, or Lacuna Coil fans. Saw a reference to them as being similar to Lacuna coil which led me to look them up. Personally I'd say they aren't quite as hard as Lacuna and the girls voice is closer to Amy Lee or Nightwish's singer than Christina Scabbia's. And the singer, Sharon Den Adel, is better looking than all of them but shares the same black hair goth look that all of them have.

Cover of an old Kate Bush song that is amazing.

Two other songs that pretty much show what their stuff sounds like.

I'm not really a fan of either bands, but from what I have heard of both, Nightwise is far better than Evanescence. I remember listening to Evanescene's album from 2003 and it was so generic, I couldn't seperate one song from the other, and the songs weren't great to begin with.

Besides Evanescence, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, and Within Temptation, there's also the band Leaves' Eyes (http://www.leaveseyes.com) with singer Liv Kristine.

Oh, and the new Evanescence CD The Open Door is due out October 3rd. The first single "Call Me When You're Sober" is due at radio on August 7th.

Holy crap. Another cool band I hadn't heard of. And I love the song and video "Into Your Light." But then any guy who isn't gay should like the video once she starts wearing the fetish wear outfit and is dancing on stage. But the song is worth listening to as well.

As to Evanescence. The fact that the song title makes me think of a bad Toby Keith song isn't a good sign.

The Gathering's a really good band, from the point they added lead singer Anneke van Giersbergen in (I think) 1995 for Mandylion and onward.

They aren't consistently brilliant like Lacuna Coil, but the best cuts are simply astounding. By hook or by crook, everyone needs to listen to Great Ocean Road, Rollercoaster and Rescue Me.

Yep, the only reason I didn't mention them was because of the inconsistency. I really like Liberty Bell and Analog Park, as well as the ones you mentioned.

Good band, and Anneke's voice is great, but Lacuna Coil puts out better albums.

Agreed, but I think Nightwish suffers a lot more in the consistency department. I'm not a fan of theirs, actually...

Lacuna Coil is rock freaking solid, really rare these days.

There is also Epica and After Forever, both bhands are worth checking out, Simone Simons of Epicxa featured in a Kamelo song too.

Re-reading this thread, and was baffled by:

Wait, what? If you mean Bring Me to Life, I'd say that:

That said, I'm not feeling 12 Stones. Was a little bugged that they got this huge lead-in with the Evanescence association (including McCoy doing vocals on some nationally broadcast performances) and didn't seem to make much of it.

Just heard the new Evanescence song today - Call me when your sober. The title alone gave me serious doubts since it sounds like a bad country song. Then the intro to the song is seriously ear grating. But the song improves drastically once Amy Lee gets past her voice solo at the beginning. The song certainly puts to rest any doubts that the group would be moving into pop territory with the loss of Ben Moody. Its as hard if not harder than any songs off of Fallen. That said, I'm not sure I really like the song. I don't hate it but its not something that makes me want to listen to it again and again. In fact, I'm sorry to say that it has the definite potential to become one of those seriously annoying songs. But I could be wrong, and I hope I am, because Going Under annoyed me very badly the first few times I heard it as well but I eventually grew to like it.

For those that want to hear it (I know there has to be at least one other Ev fan here. ;) ) they have the video for the song up on their website.

They are equally bad and wish there were more female fronted bads like the Distillers or KiTTiE than this stuff.

You mean, you prefer unintelligable growling to actual singing?

Why is this thread still here, anyway? I got bored with it a while ago.

Why yes, yes I do.

Just not Kittie, who haven't been any good since Spit, imho. Or the Distillers, as Brody Dahl (sp?) sounds exactly like Tim Armstrong to me. Take Otep Shamaya, now there's some good unitelligable vocals. :D
