View Full Version : When not going on the Daily Show is a bad idea....

I was watching the Daily Show last night and there was a correspondence feature on the bitter battle between Congressional GOPs and the Democrats over a local softball league rules. That's right...the GOP were so upset over changes in the playoff formats that they took their ball home and formed their own league. (GOP playing the Confederate card...Lincoln would be so proud!)

The D.S. correspondent interviewed a GOP congressman on camera. I wish I could tell you what was said, but the congressman left the interview and pulled/threatened legal action so that the Comedy Central lawyers wouldn't let the footage air.

So what did they air: the correspondent interviewed someone else who described the meeting (why? Because the correspondent wasn't allowed.). The correspondent, after noting that phone calls with congressman can be recorded by the press, then called the congressman with the cameras rolling. He asked a question like, "Is the *ickish behavior in the softball league an indicator of GOP *ickish behavior in general ---I'll take a hang-up as a Yes answer." which he quickly got.

Watch the rerun Tuesday if you can...

My DVR is set for the Daily Show, so I'll be looking forward to watching this episode this week.

That was probably the sweetest Daily Show moment since Colbert left.

I think that was the best thing I've seen that particular correspondent in (I'm blanking on his name right now).

As for best moments since Colbert left....

I'd put Jason Jones "fatherhood" video above the softball league. Rob Cordry's bit re: Dick Cheney shooting a 78-year old man in the face was better IMHO. And Jason Jones going to the Netherlands iirc to talk to people about the controversial anti-arab cartoons was better.

A small tangent. It was a great episode. The Colbert Report's "Gay Pride Week" episode was also solid.

I want the photoshopped picture of Stephen from college as an avatar :)

Is there any way I can find out when either of those aired? Comedy Central page and TV.com didn't help with a date, but now I really need to see that.

This is the Cordry video in quicktime & WMP. iirc, one version shows more of the bit then the other.

I'll see what I can do re: the Jason Jones bits. He was actually in the Netherlands, and it was a two-parter.

My Google Fu and obsession with good comedy are strong.

The best part is when he's swimming with the baby on his chest.

And does anyone know if he's actually married to Samantha Bee? I think so....

The two have been married since 2001 according to wikipedia.

Jason Jones stepped in for Samantha Bee during her maternity leave and did so well he got a full time job.

Right now, he's probably my favorite correspondent.

That was so funny.

My favorite bit was probably the weird way he holds the baby in the studio. The way he cradles her neck & chest from the front just looks wrong.
