Last week, I witnessed something bizarre at work. A woman was browsing our bargain book section with a screaming baby she simply couldn't calm down. It continued for several minutes, her trying to hold the baby and talk to it and shush it.

Nothing.

And for some inexplicable reason, she picked up a bargain coffee table book with a big picture of Jackie Chan on the cover and held it up for the baby.

The crying immediately stopped and the baby was transfixed by it. It started laughing and was immediately happy.

And the minute the mother set the book down, the baby starting crying again...

Are you kidding? When that guy smiles, he's got an extremely happy-looking face. Babies respond to happy faces, for the most part.

Thu baby was scared that Jackie Chan would kick its ass if it didn't shut the hell up. The baby made a good decision.

It would be even funnier if holding up a book of Mao Tse-Tung turned out to have the same effect on the baby, though.

Do you recall exactly why Jackie Chan is on the cover of a coffee table book?

Is it a bunch of pictures of him kicking people?

Or perhaps it's a tour of his home and gardens?

Or his favorite recipes ... for PAIN!
