Kingdom Hearts isn't that long, and it's more of an action RPG like Zelda.

Because there are lots of games higher on the list of "Why haven't I played this yet" titles, and I still don't have the money.

Why haven't I played Kingdom Hearts? Why haven't I learnt to play the harmonica? Why haven't I become a professional water polo player? Why haven't I built a replica of the 1902 Wright glider in plasticine? To be perfectly honest, I haven't even thought about doing any of these things before now.

Believe me, compared to the a lot Tetsuya Nomura stuff, the Disney parts are friggin poetry.

I want to play it, but I don't own a PS2. I do own Chain of Memories for the GBA, however, but that dosen't offer the full story. I mean, it's card based, and the Deep Jungle level is absent.

How can anyone say "Disney. Meh"? Disney has given us some incredible movies and characters over the years.
Disney deserves tons of respect.

Me < $49.99
I tried kingdom hearts 2, but had to quit it.
The start was so...blah, but i made it through until sora comes back. Eventualy, i went to Mulan world, and i realized "Hey....this makes no sense, they showed up for no real reason and said 'We can help you!", which kinda made me not care about the story, so i quit.

My gaming experience of Kingdom Hearts did made me want to consider looking at the old Disney cartoons that I haven't seen since I was a kid.

Personally, Disney lost all my respect when A) they created The Lion King, an oh-so obvious rip-off of Kimba, The White Lion, and B) bought out Studio Ghibli, but I guess that's just the Otaku talking...
Wow, a I did't expect the main reason to be money. I thought for sure it would be an overwhelming hatred of all things Disney.
I must agree, though, that KH completely changed my view of a lot of Disney characters. I mean, it made Goofy look cool, proof enough that one day, Square-Enix will rule the world.
And I shall be a happy litte SOLDIER stormtrooper.

Why haven't you?
Because the Disney Universe doesn't appeal to me. Actually, wait! I have played the game, I just didn't enjoy it as much as I could have done.
Kingdom Hearts actually sold quite well, I guess the real questions are:
Why haven't you played TIE Fighter (1994)
Why haven't you played Operation Flashpoint (2001)
Why haven't you played Hostile Waters (Anteus Rising in the US) (2002)
Why haven't you played System Shock 1 & 2
All of these games I've just mentioned were absolutely ground-breaking at the time of their release, they recieved loads critical acclaim, yet they didn't sell very well.

Kingdom Hearts is on the wait list for me. I need to finish the games I have first. BUT KH IS on the short list. I used to have it and played about an hour, and LOVED it, but for some insane reason I sold my PS2 to help pay for a PC. Now that I have a PS2 again I will definitely get it again after I've finished some other stuff. My only concern is that I never really got into the FF series. I started FFIII for SNES, and FFVII for PS1, but never finished either one. Will I enjoy KH even if I don't know much about the FF world?
Right now I'm playing Fable and Gladius.

the game looks good, but I'm kind of turned off by hack/slash games and I think I'm interested in a deeper story rather than one of those fun charming ones. It's definatly on my list

...if you're 8.
Sorry, nothing about it appeals to me especially for an RPG type game which needs you to care about the characters a bit in order to dedicate yourself to the hours of gameplay.

Cause I played a demo and it sucked. I didnt like the combat, the story had the usual square feeling of convoluted story that tries to be this big dramatic episode and so on.
I havent liked a game square made in terms of story since the ps1 came out, they spun out of control on that area when the ability to have better graphics vs better story/gameplay. Not to mention they dont make alot of sense outside of the very core story, rest is just a bunch of invented terms and ideas.
Squaresoft died in my heart when the super nintendo met the same fate.

I'm no Disney fangirl, and heck I'm not a FF fangirl, but this game series rocks hard.
Seriously, Disney isn't something I even like all that much. I enjoy the older movies, and stuff like Darkwing Duck, but this game makes you not only like the characters, but care about what is happening to them, whether they ar FF, Disney, or created for the game.
Stop hating on it because you hate all things Disney. That's silly. If I had let my luke warm opinion of Disney (and FF games) color my opinions on the game, I would have never discovered it and had so many worthwhile hours of gameplay.
Plus, Tron rocks.

Yeah. I mean, I was just like the rest of you when it was first announced "Disney characters in a Square video game?! What the f*** were they smoking!" But after actually playing it, I grew to appreciate and love the title of it(and it also proved that Disney characters can be pretty badass given the right setting; just look at fugging Mickey Mouse:D) . So, don't turn away from it just because you think the formula is absurd(I took a leap and didn't regret it at all).

Heh. There was about 3 points where I expected Mickey to pop up and squeak "Is Mickey gonna haveta smack a b***h?!":D

what's the story of KH like? Without spoiling of course. I mean, I like the sort of final fantasy deeper stories, i'm not a big fan of Rpgs who "don't take themselves too seriously". That's really my main concern.

The combat system certianly isn't typical of the RPG genre, it's much more typical of hack and slash type games. That and the fact that one of the main characters is a bad-ass duck ought to help you make up your mind.

Linear console RPGs bore the crap out of me unless they are of the Shining Force, Ogre Battle, or FFT (not GBA) variety.

Never gonna happen. Just like they wont make a PS2 version of Halo 1 and 2.

And that has to do with the plot?
The plotline is actuallly pretty standard FF stuff. All the different Disney settings, are alternate worlds, and they're being destroyed, one by one, so King Mickey goes off to investigate, while our plucky hero Sora makes plans to explore these worlds with his friends on his idylic island home. Until one day... you can guess the rest.:D
