In his latest newsletter, Steve Rude has announced that plans to revive Nexus have fallen through. According to Steve, Mike Baron's scripts were taking the character in directions The Dude wasn't comfortable with so they mutually decided to let it go. As a fan of both Nexus and the Baron/Rude team, I'm disappointed... but not as disappointed as I would've been by an inferior addition to the existing canon. I respect both men for having the creative integrity to walk away.

Well, that's sad news. Maybe they'll change their minds someday.

I wonder what direction Baron was going that Rude objected to. Did he give any indication?

You took the words right out of my mouth.
Rest happy, Val.

This saddens me. Guess I'll have to read through the existing issues to cheer me up.

That's too bad that they couldn't agree on a direction for the character. I guess it's better to walk away from something rather than being unable to give a full effort to it, but it still would have been nice to have some new Nexus after all these years.

Back Issue Magazine #9 (the sci-fi issue!) had neat interviews with both Baron and Rude. Rude came out sounding like a weird mix of laid back surfer guy and upstanding family values man. It would be interesting to know what the cause of their mutual decision was. As Cei-U says, better no new Nexus than one without the full commitment of its creators.
I'm hoping the Dark Horse Nexus HC's are going to be printed in softcover so I can afford to read it all for myself. All I've read are the 90's Dark Horse minis and a smattering of original issues out of quarter bins.

The rest of the original issues shouldn't be too hard to find. I have most of the first 50 issues of Nexus, and I don't think I paid more than $3 for any of them.

Gotta echo what everyone else is saying.
No new Nexus? Boo.
No cheap, inferior Nexus? Yay.
At least we might see some more work out of both fellers...
Just as long as it isn't more exccrably-written Moth stories.
Gah!

Well, I'm sorry for you in that case because Rude's plan has always been to bring back Nexus and keep doing Moth comics :)

Yeah, but trades would be more convenient :D .
Guess I'll add Nexus to the long list of back issues I keep my eye out for.

i quite liked the few (4?) moth issues that rude turned out, myself.
then again, no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of dan bailey.

This news actually pains me...it's extremely disheartening to hear about Rude and Baron going their separate ways. Man, would I like to know what direction Baron was taking the character. Must be pretty out there for Rude to walk away like that. I mean, after all the topics these two have touched? Interesting.
