Mel Gibson as The Comedian is one of the funnier things I've seen in a while.

I read today, on imdb, I think that John Cusack was attached to play the Owl(?) for a long time, until the project fell apart - again.

Before I read the credit I thought Captain Metropolis played by Steve Carrell.

As far as fake/dream movie casts go, that one is pretty terrible.

I don't know. I kind of like the idea of Mel Gibson as the Comedian. But not how he looks there. Ralph Fiennes and John Cusack would be good Ozmandias and Nite Owl. Not sure about Edward Norton as Rorscharch.

I always pictured Tom Beringer as the comedian. And they could get Jude Law to play anybody in the movie since he's supposed to be such a huge fan of the book.

Tom Berringer is a good actor, but can be... problematic to cast.

I think Edward Norton would be great as Rorshach.
Keep Cusack as Nite Owl
John Favreau would make a great Comedian, or course, he could be Nite Owl as well.

Not that I don't think your cast is good.....but why do people try to cast people in their 30's for this movie. The only character that was supposed to be in their 30's was Silk Spectre II. The rest were supposed to be in their late 40's to early 50's. These were not young people.

Favreau and Norton have the gravitas for the characters, and if Favreau IS under 40, he's not looking it these days!

I've always thought Watchmen should be animated but for the sake of this thread I'll put that aside for the moment.

Rorshach is 45 years old according to Watchmen #6. Ozymandias is 46 according to Watchmen #11 but he could probably pass as a man in his late-30s to early-40s due his excellent physical health. Laurie admits to being 35 in Watchmen #1 although like Ozymandias, she may be able to look a few years younger. Dr Manhattan is 56 years old according to his own words in Watchmen #4. Of course of all the characters he truly doesn't look his age. Aside from the blue skin, Doc Manhattan probably looks like a fit man of 30. Nite Owl II is the only person we don't get an age for but I'm willing to say he's more than likely in his late 30s to early 40s but looks younger with the only real blemish being his increased weight and accompanying belly. Edward Blake was 60-61 according to Watchmen #2. Earlier at the begining #1, Joe the detective says Blake looked rather fit for a man his age.

The reason I rattled all that information off is that these are the things to keep in mind when casting the roles. Ed Norton may be able to pull of Rorshach but he looks too young to make an effective Kovacs. Cusack is not a bad choice for Nite Owl and certainly fits the age range. Although to be honest I've always pictured Rick Moranis in the role. (although thinking about now, he maybe too short.) Both have the problem in that they don't have the paunch for it. I don't think Catherine Zeta-Jones is right for Silk Spectre, she's too glamorous. Ralph Fiennes doens't work for me as Ozymandias. To me Ozymandias needs to have a certain Adonis look to him that Mr Fiennes does not have. Mel Gibson would make a nice Comedian though he's not as buff as Eddie looks in the comics he still looks like he could pull off the extremely fit older man aspect to the character.

I could've swore Nite-Owl II said somewhere in Watchmen he was 47 years old. I could be wrong, but that is what I thought.

I always pictured Albert Brooks as Nite-Owl II. He just seems like the kind of guy to play that part. There is some loser esque, funny dialouge going with Dan, and I always thought Albert Brooks could get that. Plus, I always assumed Dan was supposed to be older than Rorschach. Just my two cents...I don't want Watchmen to turn into some movie staring a bunch of fit, late 20 early 30's type people. These were broken down by life figures, who were once great, but beat down by time.

How about Bur Cort Harold & Maude, Brewster McCloud, Dogma as Rorshach? He's not too young, and he's definitely got the chops!

How about Brad Pitt as Ozymandias? And he is in his 40s.

I think a relatively unknown actor should play Rorschach. It would be way more of a surprise for the audience whenever he is revealed to be the guy with the "The End is Nigh" sign. If you see someone like William H. Macy or Edward Norton walking around with that sign-you're gonna know that they are important to the story.

Bud Cort is pretty damn squirrelly. He could be Rorshach. I don't know if he can play the montone that Kovacs is supposed to be. That is why I always say David Caruso should be Ror. He is montone in his delivery, and he looks half nuts.

I like this idea, but the drawback is that the film would still have to draw a lot of attention to the "End is Nigh" guy so that the typical audience member will recognize him and get the connection. If they did something like Kevin Spacey in Se7en and kept the actor a "surprise" for late in the film, it could work.

That's why Cort makes sense. Caruso, espcially now, is going to stand out like a sore thumb. Cort can change his look pretty well, and he could be doubly billed as Cort for Rorshach, and as his alter-ego, Lord Heinrich "Binky" Alcoa III for "Mr. End is Nigh."

Another interesting choice, would be Paul "Pee Wee" Rubens!

I WOULD be interested in an animated film, IF it were top notch 3-D CGI that was meticulously made to look like Dave Gibbons' work!
