Unofficially, Marvel is considering a move to bring the Infinity Gems to the big screen. The company is currently busy establishing its own production facility in order to move away from FOX and create greater independence for itself in Hollywood. I also know that Hulk 2 and an Ironman movie are slated for release in early 2008.

Now, about this supposed Infinity Gems movie...have you guys heard anything of the sort? I have a cousin in NY who's actually fortunate enough to be employed by Marvel. I heard it from him recently. Anything substantial on this rumor? Cuz if so, I'd REALLY pay to go see it. I also hear that the main characters would be portrayed in a more modern sense, probably meaning attire.

I can't really see it happening. To many characters and to epic a storyline. Unless they totally throw out the IG story and make it from square one.

I mean I never expect to see all the Cosmic Beings throwing down with Thanos backed but every marvel hero there is. The Budget would be easily 350+ million and that is low end.

Very unlikely in general, almost impossible for it to appear in any form that resembles the comics. Remember that most of Marvel's characters are licensed to different companies for use in film. Sony has the film rights to Spidey, Fox has X-Men, etc. Almost all of Marvel's characters are licensed to one company or another, even if a film hasn't been, or never will be, made.

So what you'd end up with would be some sort of huge, big-budget sci-fi action movie focused on Thanos, Adam Warlock, and Pip the Troll, and no studio would bother with that.

Agreed. The General public would be like " who in the hell is Thanos and this gold guy with the short dude" ? Almost no one outside comic circles has a clue who they are.

As I understand it, the rights to the earliest characters were sold, partially during those first forays into animation in the 60's with the company that did "Sipider-man," Iron Man," and was it "Thor?" Not to mention the "FF" over @ Hannah Barbera. The contracts appear to have been different, as the "FF" never seemed to present the sort of problems that prevented Jim Cameron from doing his planned 1988 Spider-man movie.

It's also been reported that during the 70's, at another time when Marvel was particularly strapped for cash (the days when "Star Wars" was keeping the company afloat), that a number of characters and properties' film rights were sold, I believe this is where the then on the rise X-Men sale came in. I don't know if that included properties like "Adam Warlock" and "Captain Marvel." It's possible that Warlock, Marvel, Thanos & Eros are all still owned by Marvel, and that they can do whatever they want with them. If this is the case, it doesn't matter that the general public doesn't know who they are now. The general public, generally doesn't know who any characters are in a given film before they go see it, it's a matter of proper set-up and reveals to make the audience want to find out who they are, and why they should care. if nothing else, an adaptation of "Infininty Gauntlet" could be an interesting epic.

I can see Thanos and maybe the gems appearing in a Silver Surfer movie (Perhaps spun-off from the FF franchise?) but not the storyline itself.

I could see it as possibly the next Direct DVD for Ultimate Avengers. that's the only way i could imagine it.

Thanos, Adam Warlock, Gamora, Pip the troll, & Moondragon are too obscure for the general audience. When they see Moondragon, they'll think of the bald woman from Star Trek: The Motion Picture, although Moodragon pre-dates her since she appears in Iron Man #54 (1968). Likewise, for the other main cast.

The Infinity Gems is a great concept, but I just don't it would translate very well as a movie.

I've never read the Infinity Gauntlet (I long ago soured on Cosmic Marvel) but what I know of it (and of Starlin's general approach to such material) pretty much makes it a very unlikely movie subject. For on thing, to do it well would be outrageously expensive, even by current Hollywood blockbuster standards. You'd basically be looking at an ensemble/outer space/spiritul/sc-fi/super-hero epic. That'd be a lot to pack into one movie, esp. if you had to cram in everyone's backstory.

It's always the cousin, isn't it? Whether it's somebody telling an outrageous rumor, repeating an urban legend, or even just handing out obscene amounts of magic items that greedy players will try to import into their usual D&D campaign, it's always the cousin who gets the blame. Maybe Americans have developed this secret tradition of lying to their cousins or else falling for anything that a cousin says. I don't know. But this Infinity Gauntlet rumor sets a new standard for absurdity. I think that we have only slightly better odds of seeing an Infinity Gauntlet movie than we do of seeing a live reunion by the Beatles.

I could actually see this as a spinoff of a spinoff, but years down the road.If silver surfer is in a Fantastic Four movie, he might eventually get his own film. Thanos would be an obvious first villain. Thanos could get a movie telling about how he essentially mowed through six elders to grasp absolute power. It would be interesting, but your average movie gower would see it as an out there sci-fi movie. Kind of like the Riddick movies. I don't think that you would have to tell the whole story. You could start the movie with thanos sitting somewhere, mumbling to himself about how he almost won. Then tell the story from the beggining, him making a pledge with death, going through the elders...after would be a difficult part, because that is where the bulk of the marvel characters are. Nobody is gonna freak out over Champion's movie rights.

I could see a butchered version being the basic plot for a "Silver Surfer" movie spinning off of FF2. They'd basically limit it to the "Cosmics" I'd wager, and cut out the Earth-Based heroes almost entirely (maybe a cameo by the FF). It could still be interesting, but I also find the possibility pretty unlikely. At least not in any form that would -really- do Thanos justice. ;)

Do we get to beat the shenanniganers with brooms now?

Because this is never happening. At least not in any real Infinity Gauntlet-y way.
And if it does really happen, I'll apologize to the people I beat into a coma with a broom.

One way around "the Bald Chick from Star Trek I" problem is by casting the right woman, perhaps the French model Eve, who had a shorn head for years, and has that wild Dragon tattoo. Personally, I loved Persis Khambatta and her skinhead.

It could work.

But they'd need to trim it down to such an extent it will be barely like the actual mini-series.

I can see them using Thanos and Adam Warlock and his friends, but everyone else tied up elsewhere.

According to Bendis they can't even do an Avengers movie because in order just to get the rights for all the characters the studio would have to fork over
something like $300 million.

If it does get made I *pray* Fox doesn't make it. Because Rothman would nab it and turn it to sh*t. :(

Perhaps if there was a Marvel answer to the animated JLU... perhaps a better done 'Avengers' or Fantastic Four, we could see an animated mini series..?

I would just like to see any crossover movie. I think it would be awsome considering that most contracts in comic book movies are for trilogies or sequels. They could save money by combining Daredevil 2 Hulk 2 X men 4 Spider Man 4 Fantastic Four 3 Punisher 2 Ghost Rider 2 Iron Man 2 and so on and so on. If they made them all in to one movie it would save us all a lot of time. Just shove them all together in one film. Movies are expensive to watch in the theater. Just make a Secret Gauntlet and be done with it.

Better to make it a cartoon like they did w/ Ultimate Avengers.

Never never never never never happen.

Never never.

Like, EVER.

I'd expect a Kingdom Come movie before any of the Infinity series.

(Which will also never ever happen, btw)

I think a mini series would be much better for the IG story than a movie would. A movie would strain to fit even the vital things in and still be comprehensible, whereas there's a lot more freedom if it was a miniseries.

You could make 2 or 3 seasons of it if it was a tv show. Put it on HBO.

I'm gonna have to agree with whoever said that it will probsbly be released thru Marvel like the Animated Ultimate Avengers DVD last year. They already are working on Ultimate Avengers 2 so a Infinity Gaunlet animated flick wouldnt be too hard to believe. As for the actual Big Screen version, I think thats a lil' farfetched.

Well, it's hard to believe in the sense that Infinity Gauntlet hasn't been relevant for longer than most of the target audience has been alive.
