OK, tips:

a) Drew will never guess, because it was in a title he didn't read.

b) The character in question has no name and no sex is known. In fact it may be even more than one character.

those were both old pictures that made me laugh for whatever reason.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was trying to say earlier, too. A few guys can get carried away talking about sex in here, and they only get worse when a pretty girl shows up. It's all fun, but sometimes it just goes on too long. It's nothing you did.

It is official. I have always though that go a guy I was not that great at bowling. I had 2 games yesterday, first I got 139, the second I totally crumbled and scored 79. about 120 is my average when ever playing. This thought of not being great was due to brother and cousin who all could bowl more then me. Still can.

But then looking arround I realised that I am good due to the fact I didn't see any of the near by rows and the groups of guys on them get over 100.

Weird that.

No, "Through the Looking Glass". That poem, "The Walrus and the Carpenter" that's an indictment of organized religion. The walrus, with his girth and his good nature, he obviously represents either Buddha, or... or with his tusk, the Hindu elephant god, Lord Ganesha. That takes care of your Eastern religions. Now the carpenter, which is an obvious reference to Jesus Christ, who was raised a carpenter's son, he represents the Western religions. Now in the poem, what do they do... what do they do? They... They dupe all these oysters into following them and then proceed to shuck and devour the helpless creatures en masse. I don't know what that says to you, but to me it says that following these faiths based on mythological figures ensure the destruction of one's inner-being. Organized religion destroys who we are by inhibiting our actions... by inhibiting our decisions, out of... out of fear of some... some intangible parent figure who... who shakes a finger at us from thousands of years ago and says... and says, "Do it - Do it and I'll fuckin' spank you. " Loki 'Dogma'.

Oh, and Mariah, if you think I was making fun of you, I wasn't. I was making fun of the ridiculous reaction to you.

I'm sure you're very nice and attractive, but there's some guys in here that treat girls like potential sex objects instead of people.

And that's worth making fun of.
Thanks Jake and Unca Nobs, I know you guys were mostly talking to the guys, but I just felt mabye it was my fault, for going along with it. But that's alright, I'm fine now.

Hey Mariah UTV what you think of my inspirational quotes?

I use to have a webpage bookmarked that had a ton of them. Some really good ones.

This is my favorite quote of all time though, it's from a book I've read, Heart of a Soldier. I highly recommend it. The main character was talking about what it means to be a man and a soldier.

"In everything that can be called art there is a quality of redemption. It may be pure tragedy, if it is high tragedy, and it may be pity and irony, and it may be the raucous laughter of the strong man. But down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero; he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor---by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world."

~Raymond Chandler

I know not all gay men are like that, as a lot of my friends are gay men, but I just don't understand this. If I wanted to take my kids to show them a very nice parade, full of people who deserve to be recognised for the hardships they have to endure, I can't as I don't want them exposed to someone's genitalia. But I love the fact that they give themselves a parade, it's too awesome, especially when the current head of state is trying to pass a law forbidding them to get married. Total horse crap.

I agree its positive that we are recognised as a community...but thats the thing...gay men are so diverse and different that we rarely fit into one community....

I dont need a parade to serve as an example of how it isnt shameful to be gay. I do that in my everyday life by beign a good person who happens to be gay. Personally i think your more likely to change prejudices by doing that rather than having a flashy parade.

Yeah, there's a lot of people within the community who discourage that for the same reasons. But, at the same time, it's a complex social issue. It's tantamount to openly criticising racial minorities within the community for being "too ghetto," "to inarticulate," et cetera, et cetera, because they compromise the social face of the larger community.

For gays, it happens to be sex. But people freak the F out when you go out and derail them. I've been called a (looks at UT) republican because I'm more of a "colorblind" rather than "race conscious" person when it comes to gays in the broader spectrum of society. So it's not an easy thing to say "Have gay pride... in a limited, small fashion."

For a lot of people who have lost families, careers, and most everything else except the gay subculture, it's offensive to sort of "stuff them back into the closet." They resent it. And MOST people at these gay pride rallies and such are normal, everyday people wearing everyday clothing and just being a part of the celebration. And I think that is totally overshadowed in the media by the "gay pride = assless chaps and people fornicating in YOUR streets" sensationalist angle.

There's hope though. My family went to gay pride in Lansing yesterday(!) just to go and had a great time. And my family is a super-nuclear white, Christian family (2 parents, one son, one daughter, and a dog). And they went without me, the gay one they support. So... there's hope. :D

My grandfather is what i call an armchair bigot...prejeudiced against most minorities but not to the extent of hate but of mild distrust that he is quite vocal about. He has however supported me in my coming out.

My family is a lot of blue-collar Michigan Democrats. Post-war, post-depression generation. They're far more interested in the economy, social security, and foreign policy than, say, abortions and gay marriage. And this doesn't take into account religion, which has been a staple of my family, but they have the good sense to bifurcate religion and politics.

They decidedly aren't hippie-liberals, so it's good to know there are sensible people in the world. :)

Well my sisters boyfriend is muslim which i thinks concerns my parents (despite them not being religious, i think its the way women are treated[i dont share their view]). My boyfriend is Hindu

My dads fairly old fashioned but as my mother says that his kids making alternative choices has meant hes had to examine his prejudices and realise they're based on fear not any logical reason. So hes a better person for having had us. :D

Its hard to be gay and still see a party that fails to agknowledge you as a good thing.

The Conservative party in Britain are pushing equal rights for gay couples when it comes to tax which boggles the mind when you consider 15 years ago they were publically saying that children should not be taught 'that this abomination is a legitimiate lifestyle choice'.

I always resent it being reffered to as choice.

I've got no problem with anybody ...until they draw attention to themselves. I don't know why, but something in my character just gets a bad taste in mouth when people attempt to draw attention to themselves. I dislike the whole Hollywood culture, and when groups of any political/social subculture make a point of saying we have overcome I can't help but think..."Overcome what?!" Laws in America are preferential to minority groups right now, and I don't see much overt discrimination... except that it is socially acceptable to discriminate against lower class whites. Every minority picks on "rednecks" and NASCAR. I mean I don't really care what anyone in America says is sooooo hard. We are not having hard times here, not blacks, gays, latinos, whites, and saying look at me, look at me, I am being discriminated against seems like whining to me. We aren't in Iraq, Sierra Leone, or the Sudan. Even countries that are supposed to be first world have massive areas with huge unemployment and crazy violence. How are WE soooo oppressed over here? Do some people get the short end of the stick because of what they are? Yes. What's my answer to that. Adapt and overcome. Some asshole won't hire gays, look for work elsewhere. I am sure there are plenty of homosexual friendly workplaces. Somehow I doubt I could get hired to work at a hip hop night club or even a gay night club... I don't think of that as a problem that the Supreme Court MUST address. I just feel that we all face some adversity in our lives, but not as much adversity as Iraqi school children, and if they can do what they have to as CHILDREN we should be able to get by with a HUGE THANKFUL SMILE. Maybe I am wrong, but the Civil Rights Movements of the 60's are history, and there is currently nothing analogous with what was happening to blacks in the South. Simply stated while gays may face some discrimination, they are not waking up to gays hanging from nooses with tacit goverment support. Hell, I'm a white dude in Fort Lauderdale and I face some discrimination. Trust me you do not want to be white on Sistrunk Blvd after the sun goes down. The cops will pull you over so quick, because you must be a carck head to be there. And that's not including the young black men who look at you the way a lion looks at a gazzelle. So we all have adversity, and definitely not as much as others, so whining about it just looks....whiny. But, I could be wrong.

I cant talk as an ethnic minority or as an American so bear with me.

By 'overcome' at least in the gay community i think its overcomign the culture that the majority still hold that being gay is a shameful thing. Being gay and 14 is still one of the hardest things ive had to do as your:
a) in an institution that doesnt agknowledge your exsistence let alone your needs or rights.
b) you are amongst other people who are still fairly insecure and unsure of themselves and therefore will latch on to anything to give them the sense that they are the 'normal', 'right' one.
c) for the most part you have to carry this on your own...fearing the reaction of those close to you like friends or family.
d) probably still experiencing some self hatred due to the ammount of low level homophobia which is still floating around in society.

Once you get out of that dark place and become comfortable with yourself you can get your life back...but about 98% of gay people have to go through that for at least a short period of time.

Even in a good society, we should still always be striving to make things better. No society is ever without flaws or things that can be improved. We shouldn't become complacent because we're in better shape than another part of the world. To do so is to stagnate.

There were a billion kids at the Seattle one yesterday.

Damn it.

Cay

That just made me laugh out loud at work. ;)

A gay owned business (cafe) here in Chicago has a sign in its window saying they like children, but to please be mindful, keep them under control, and have them use their indoor voices.

It drew so much controversy with parents and such. But I say: kudos. This may make me sound, like 82, but kids these days are out of control.

Lol i love the fact it caused controversey....what so if the parents were sitting in Starbucks they'd like someones kid shouting and running around of course not...this is social ettiquette not the gay community attacking children :D

There were two Prides here competing. They used to have Pride at this park in the area where I live and the Parade, but this year the Pride committee moved it to Seattle center. That caused some furor because this part of town is Seattle's heavily gay area so they did an offshoot one called Queerfest. Thus Seattle gets two parades. Yay, us!

Agreed. Well said. Being in the closest is one of the hardest things I've been through, and I was in there for a long time. You are all alone because you don't have anyone you can talk to, because you fear their reaction and you don't know any better. But eventually, you realize who you are and who you can trust. I go to a college in gay-friendly Boston, where half the guys are gay, so once I felt like I wasn't alone and that I would be accepted I came out. Of course, everyone was like, "Uhhh yeah we already guessed that." :)

And Zombie Northstar tht all seems like very personal stuff... thank you for sharing. I was a little worried that i would be labeled "hatemonger" for that last post. Cayman I agree with your stagnation comment. But, here in America we have evolved oout of necessity into a very tolerant society. Perhaps, too tolerant in some spheres. But are we going to convince EVERYONE to act nice. I don't think so. It's unfortunate but I just don't see a time when every will "just get along". So the world has got some assholes I just think people should deal with it. (This does not refer to the passage of rite Zombie Northstar referred to) But in an adult's life he is going to come across people who for some reason will not like him/her for any number of reasons or prejudices. Women face prejudices every day, and I don't see anymore Suffrage parades. I personally don't get along with religious zealots, and PETA activists, and I consider myself a pretty good guy. So I guess I am trying to say sometimes I am apathetic to a LOT of causes because I think we should all try to get thicker skins. I remember being told a lot when I was a kid "Don't worry about what other people think." And I don't. I just try to be a good person, and keep on going.

Oh and just to let you all in on a story of mine. When I left the Corps I flew back to Miami. I tried to get a beer at a local bar. I ordered in Spanish (when in Rome....) and was denied service. I showed 2 forms of ID, and was still asked to leave. I hadn't done anything to offend these people... I was just white. Before leaving I told them I couldn't believe they were refusing me service after I just spent 4 years defending the freedom they floated over here for. What I didn't do was label the entire Cuban-American population as white haters and organize a rally. I never got my beer that night, but I never went back to that bar either.

Lick my left nut. What this says to me is "I am affiliated with lower-class whites; therefore, I am offended." Same argument... different perspective. This type of battle happens a lot: whether its racial minorities who condemn gays as not suffering as they have, or young college-aged men saying women receive preferential treatment in employment, or any other perspective-dependent opinion, it's the same. old. horse.

If you honestly do not see how gays are discriminated against in this country, I daresay you need more gay friends and/or read a newspaper. If you can honestly say that there is no passive racism, I dare you to go out with a group of black men to a mid-scale restaurant, and see how you're serviced. Walk a mile in someone else's shoes, and THEN come back and talk to me like you're an authority on anything aside from your own niche.

Paper tiger argument. No, we are not in the Sudan. But, at the same time, when a country like South Africa can enshrine protections for gays and lesbians into their constitution -- while we talk about placing prohibitions on them in ours -- I fail to see the relevancy of that point.

And of course you don't see blacks, gays, or latinos facing hardships if you're not looking at it from their social perspective. And if you're going to equate those groups as not having "hard times," but victimize fans of NASCAR as facing the worst ridicule of all, I really think you need to re-evaluate your definition of adversity. Or just STFU. Pick your poison, though the former would be far more becoming.

Oh, give me a BREAK. That is the point of a constitution and Bill of Rights. Equal under the law. Pay taxes, contribute to society, and likewise the society should treat you equally. The only person talking about "opression" is you -- a sensationalist troll who obviously has not thought these social issues through aside from possibly a few pop editorials and jingoistic bull.

I am sure there are plenty of homosexual friendly workplaces.

Again, demonstrating that you don't have any knowledge of the culture or community at all.

Somehow I doubt I could get hired to work at a hip hop night club or even a gay night club... I don't think of that as a problem that the Supreme Court MUST address.

Well, set the bar low enough for yourself, and then everyone else will follow. Personally, I would rather set the bar HIGHER for everyone, but, you know -- I'm an inclusive optimist. C'est la vie.

And for the record: I know quite a few straight guys (and especially women) who work at gay-owned businesses or bartend at gay nightclubs. Oops.

I just feel that we all face some adversity in our lives, but not as much adversity as Iraqi school children, and if they can do what they have to as CHILDREN we should be able to get by with a HUGE THANKFUL SMILE.

Well, that's nice. We're pulling better than a 3rd world country. Keep setting that bar lower, brother.

Maybe I am wrong, but the Civil Rights Movements of the 60's are history, and there is currently nothing analogous with what was happening to blacks in the South. Simply stated while gays may face some discrimination, they are not waking up to gays hanging from nooses with tacit goverment support.

Again with the relativist argument. No. They're beaten and murdered, intimidated, attacked, mugged, disowned, fired, teased, ridiculed, and shunned. Not everyone (I wasn't), but a good deal are. Last I remember, black families didn't cut off their children for being black. Seems like we still have a way to go.

Ah. So now we see the true colors. A white guy, in the south, who feels he is discriminated against. And he's tired of those "uppity blacks/gays/women/latinos" from whining because -- heaven forbid! -- he has to suffer such trauma as a person who knows NASCAR fans and gets pulled over because he's in a high-traffic area for drugs.

Never mind that last time I rode a cab with my black friends, the abbie drove away with one guy in the car, saying "his kind never pays," and after he had to jump from the moving cab, was harrassed by the cabbie with shouts of "Ha! I made you WALK, n*****. I made you WALK!"

And the cabbie was Pakistani.

Yeah. My heart bleeds for you. Go crawl back in your skankhole, assnut.

My main concern as far as gay teens goes...ist that schools dont recognise them and with most things in school if the administration isnt FORCED to deal with something it rarely does. My school has anti-racist policies. All very good. But they did that because 64% of my school belongs to an ethnic minority. If gay youngsters arent visible or represented then schools dont provide for them. Which means low level homophobia such as 'queer' and 'fag' is allowed to slide by teachers as its not provided for in the school charter. You can be expelled for saying the n-word under your breathe...but you cant even be given detention for screaming 'faggot' in someones face.

This may all seem trivial until we consider that the highest suicide rate is amongst gay teenage men.

Well I'm a sucker for fine Cuban cigars
The problem is I can't afford 'em
But last year I went and got myself a whole box
And just to be safe I insured 'em

I took out a policy against fire and theft
And then I hurried home
With a thirty-cent lighter I sat on my back steps
And I smoked 'em one by one

Two weeks later I went to see that insurance man
And I handed in my claim
With a straight face I told him that through a series of small fires
They'd all gone up in flames

They reviewed my case and they had no choice
But to pay me for what I'd done
And I took that check and bought a whole new box
And I smoked 'em one by one

Two weeks later this detective shows up
Tells me that company's pressin' charges
One speedy trial later they locked me up
On twenty-four separate counts of arson

And now I sit and I stare at a blank brick wall
Lookin' back on what I've done
To pass the time I've got some ten-cent cigars
And I smoke 'em one by one
Yeah, I smoke 'em one by one

Yea. Pretty much.

I met a kid from Pakistan last night and had a cool conversation w/ him. He pretty much disagreed w/ me on everything but we were able to have a good conversation never the less. It's when people try and force their reasoning on you that I get pissed about.
I would love to see you control your anger when you're confronted by morons who just don't know how to express themselves. You're a bright, articulate guy who actually enjoys talking politics. I hate to see you shut down and stop listening to the content of an argument as soon as someone acts like a jackass.

I don't mean to sound like your dad or anything here. I just see potential that's going unused.

As in appointed by the head teacher to represent the students at all school politics style stuff.

I'm not sure if my teacher appreciated the irony of a gay guy being called 'head boy'...i know my friends sure couldnt live it down.

I appreciated the irony! I was too badass to be head boy, plus there was the incident in the girls toilets... *shuts up*

Well i was always so goody goody that despite not being the highest achiever in my year i got headboy.

They regretted it. They assumed cause i was good id do as i was told. But instead i got quite idealistic and actually- get this- tried to change things for the better!!! It was actually quite good for me...because the head girl was an even more goody goody person than i was that i got a reputation as being the slightly rebellious one...lol....

The gay thing helped as well...like will and grace says with gay sex 'the kinks built in'

What got me was that they would sit there and toss out links and cite stuff and just completely shut out anything that I would say. A lot of them didn't act like they had actually put thought into what was being cited, they looked for something to say they were right and used it as the Bible and we all know the Bible could never say something that's wrong. The whole thread about the article on WMD's found in Iraq was a big detractor for me. They really wanted to say that it was ok for Saddam to just forget he had the WMD's hidden but it's wrong for Bush to be wrong about Intel.

Another thing that got to me was a duchebag who came in there and said something along the lines, "Doesn't Compassionate Conservative really mean that you just don't wear the hood and sheets anymore?". This wasn't a poster who had 1000- posts, the guy had more then me. Great thing about it too, I didn't read any posts on anyone correcting him. It's that kind of ignorance that I can't stand.

The kid from last night. Omer, was cool. He was telling me why he didn't like Bush and he was asking me all kinds of questions. I tried to understand how he came to his point of view and he tried to do the same for me, it was fun, I mean I was a lil drunk and it was before we all went to the bars but it was still cool. I do enjoy talking politics, I like wondering how someone came to their point of veiw, I like to try and share mine w/o trying to persaude them into my way of thinking. It's weird but it's fun.

That's what I pick up on with you. You actually dig it, as long as people keep it real.

But you must know that blowing up at their fallacies and snide remarks doesn't help you get your point across, right? In fact, it just reinforces their negative perception of conservatives in general.

What a long weekend. The DMB/O.A.R. show Friday night was a lot of fun. Afterward we did a little drinking but it rained and we all ended up going to bed early. Our campsite was right next to a railroad, so yeah, not the greatest situation but still okay.

Saturday we went to Hershey Park itself and did all the rides and stuff. I'd never been there but definitely enjoyed it. Some really fun coasters. Afterward we went back to camp, dried some wet clothes, got pizza for dinner, and then drank. Well past the "quiet" hour of 11PM. I think I went to sleep around 3:30 AM. This morning was hard...it was raining and I was tired but we went to breakfast and then drove home. And here I am. I think I'm going to sit on the couch and watch TV for the rest of the day. And new Entourage tonight!

Well its more school politics...they mainly wantd me as a figurehead but i keep forcing my opinionn in...examples

the last three meetings i had

1) On the 'vision' for the new school buildings
2) On anti-prejudice push (where i expressed my opinion that it was insufficent as they were only targeting racism and not other types eg. sexism and homophobia)
3) On a fundraising day for cancer research.

Scott Torino. Apparently, if I cannot find work where I live in a gay-friendly environment, I can move to Fort Lauderdale and work for Disney or Carnival Cruises.

... Because, you know, if you're gay, you should have to move across the damn country to find an accepting work environment. Touche.

I did find his 'if people dont accept you jsut leave' approach quite insensitive. As if we should all work in gay bars just so not to offend the straight workers...i work in a coffee house with a VERY homophobic manager...why should her ignorance cause me the problem of having to find another job, beign out of work etc...

Yes. As a gay man, I have SO MANY career options!!:

1. Gay bar
2. Prostitute
3. Florist
4. Hairdresser
5. Stylist
6. Retail
7. Live performing drag queen
8. Barista
9. Sex columnist
10. Waiter (at select locations)
11. Flight attendant
12. Professor of gender/queer studies

With so many choices, how could I possibly ask for anything more?! :D :D :D

I have better things to do than fight over the internet with a person who is angry with the world because somebody doesn't like him. When I didn't like my job (or the people at it) I quit. Some advice, if you aren't happy... find something that makes you happy. Everything I said was attempting to make analogies and or examples to prove a point. I didn't want a scrap, I like this board and don't want any problems with anyone, but of course here comes "suck my left nut" N. Havoc. Well dude, I am sorry not EVERYONE likes you, not everyone likes me... and I don't cry about it. I will say one more thing... perhaps you are not as tolerant as you would like me to be.

Have a nice day.
