Yes, in that case i hope they read the books before doing it, the brainless Conan version of the older films was not good.

It says in the article that it's supposed to be "more faithful" than the Arnie movies. That said, this is in the extremely early stages of pre-pre-production, so a lot could change.

Man what could be better than this...
"What is the best thing Conan? To Crush Your Enemies, Drive Them Before You and to Hear the Lamentations of their Women"
Oh gawd...

Almost, but it's
"CONAN! What is best in life?"
"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the women!"
"Yes! Good..."
Classic line, if you ask me. :D

I kinda wanted to see Arnie do a King Conan movie. With him old and king of Aquilonia, have a daughter named Valeria and have Red Sonja as his Captain of the Guard. And no she doesn't have to be Brigite Neilson.

Well if it is a Hollywood movie, Conan will have to have a goofy sidekick and a pretty girlfriend.
And it's even better if the goofy sidekick has a funny animal pet like a monkey or something.

A car chase is old hat.
They need some guys on crotch-rocket motorcycles and a drive-by shooting in East L.A. to make it relevant.
Some Asian chicks in leather would help.
And a terrorist on an airplane from the middle east.

I wonder if we'll be able to see his facial features on the CGI-generated sprite.
They claim it will be more faithful to Howard's work (at least, I hope they meant Howard's Conan -- de Camp et all's was nothing special), but I doubt there's a man in Hollywood who could reproduce the feel of Conan on film.

My personal dream choice would have been Guillermo Del Toro: Aside from being a gifted filmmaker, he's highly versed in weird fiction and he knows to do action combined with horror, which is what you need for sword-and-sorcery. I think Peter Jackson could do it, too (the savages in his King Kong remake remind me a lot of Howard's Picts), but I doubt he's in the mood to do anymore big budget fantasy films right now :)

I hope it is not a big budget fantasy epic. I'm tired of huge battle scenes with thousands of extras or CGI figures.
The Howard books are heavy with atmosphere. If they could make a movie that catches the atmosphere of the world that Howard created, it would be better than another Hollywood mega-epic.
It may be impossible to transfer the feel of the books to a wide screen movie that is entertaining to the masses.

... So they'll probably just do the usual old garbage.
I'll bet five cents there's at least on "jumping away from an explosion" scene.
I second the Del Toro suggestion, though (if they can't get Frankie Miller interested).

If Jackson did it, I would have to kill him. He would do something stupid like make conan fall in love with the snake-god thats trying to eat him.
I guess I could live with Del Torro doing it, but I havent been impressed by anything he has done.
Pretty much all I want is that conan is Conan, not a big austrian with brown hair. He should be from Cimmeria with black hair and blue-steel eyes.

A car chase is old hat.My point exactly. And so is the perceived xenophobia of American movie-goers.

I know the Conan license holders are real anal these days about seeing the license get executed uber-faithfully. That said, the Atlantean Sword and the Father Sword seem to make it into the products.

I think it's a damn shame that after Barbarian, John Milius for whatever reason didn't get to go ahead with his own plans for the sequels as a trilogy. He's still around though, and probably enjoying renewed success because of his involvement with Rome. I say give him another crack at it. If they go for a young Conan in his pre-king days, cast Karl Urban, or *maybe* Triple H depending on how he does with acting lessons.
