The controversial but now cult classic from 1986 and based on the Marvel comic desperately needs to be on DVD! It would be a 2-Disc Collector's Edition with a new version with never-before-seen footage, new special effects, a CGI altered Howard with a new voice, some re-dubbed dialog over the bad ones like take away the "He must have ate the chili line" to "What's wrong with this guy?", and the original theatrical cut. The extras would be interviews, audio commentaries, featurettes, and publicity materials like TV Spots, Trailers, and advertising gallery.
Fans should write to George Lucas to ask him to release this flick on DVD as it's one of the most requested titles to be on DVD, i think this is quite a fun movie that i loved since i was a kid and probably better then any Uwe Boll movie. Anchor Bay, Fox or Universal should do the DVD distributition!

You forgot to mention the most important DVD extra.
Footage of Lucas walking to Steve Gerber and apologizing for turning his funny character into a midget in a bad costume starring in gigantic waste of Hollywood's time and money.
Also, Tim Robbins should dragged in front of a camera and made to explain why he did this film. The only way I'd forgive him is if Lucas was holding his kitten hostage or something similar.

This movie is a serious guilty pleasure, and does need to be on DVD.
It may be pretty bad, but I remember it being on TV all the time. It was fun. :)

Use SFX to replace that film's Beverly Switzer with a really hot actress, and I'd be buying. :p

this is actually something i'd probably buy. for some reason i actually get a kick out of this movie. i'm not sure how much involvement Lucas actually had or how much control he has over his coming out on DVD but should he decide to release it, i'm there.
btw i think i just realized why my friend Mark Zieba calls me the biggest Lucas apologist ever . . .
I hated Howard the Duck movie in the 80's, I hate it now. I would pass on the DVD no matter how many extras on the disc(s).

I would plop down good money for a Howard the Duck DVD before ever paying a penny for any of the Star Wars prequels.
It was a terrible comic book adaptation, but a cooky, cool movie none the less.

Are you nuts? That was Lea Thompson at her hottest. She is the only reason to watch that movie again, and again, and again. In slow motion. ;)

Back then, I thought Lea Thompson was hot. Not hot enough to make me enjoy Howard the Duck, but still hot. Then I saw her on Caroline in the City. With each episode of that show that I watched, her hotness dropped and dropped. I can't even stand to look at a picture of her now. Bleagh.

Why does Lucas always get blamed for the film? He didn't direct it, he only produced it. Didn't William "Temple Of Doom" Huyck end up taking most of the flack for the film before Lucas bashing became the fashion in the late 90s? His career has been sort of nonexistent since he directed it...

The producer hires the director & sets the tone/direction for the film; the producer may also hire the actors.

not necessarily. on television producers tend to wield a good deal of power regularly but in the film industry it can vary from person to person and project to project. there's no denying that Lucas had a hand in Howard the Duck, how much that hand actually did though is a whole other matter.
At the time it was without a doubt the best movie ever made featuring characters from a Marvel Comic.
Of course, at the time, it was the only movie made featuring Marvel Characters.
But I digress.
I loved the silly thing.

For anyone who loves this movie should write to Anchor Bay and George Lucas to see if they can release this on DVD in the 2-Disc dream special edition. Afterall i think this isn't so bad nowadays, i think it's a fun flick and more better then any Uwe Boll flick.

It deserves a DVD release if for no other reason than to acknowledge its status as one of the greatest bad movies of all time.
